Shops/Chemists/Banks acting like there's still a stay at home partner in everyone's household

I am an office worker. I work from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Ooh, let me get a coffee before work from this local cafe... Oh. It opens at 9am. Okay. I'll just make coffee at work.

Better pick up that prescription on my lunch... Every pharmacy is closed between 1-2pm. Fine.

I've got some money to deposit at the bank after work, so I'll just do- closes at 3pm. Ah.

But it's fine! I can go to the cafe on the week... end... closed on weekends. Alright.

I understand that probably most people don't work a set 9am to 5pm, but it feels like the high street is still set up in a way that stay at home partners can go out and do the errands during the day, while you work.

My first time cosplaying Caitlyn!

I took her out to MCM London a couple of months ago and it was soooo much fun!

u/Cumulus-Crafts — 4 days ago

I've just started playing, is this a good card?

It played a whole animation when I pulled it from the deck, so I'm guessing it's something important.

I'm not into battling, I'm just collecting cards for the aesthetics and this one is VERY aesthetic

[REQUEST] Recs for games where you have to collect things and fill out groups/packs?

I currently play Skycards and Pokemon TCG, and I like both of these because I enjoy filling out packs of stuff.

Are there any other games out there that let me fill out packs over time?

I know it's a small airline (practically an airdot), but I finished catching every Loganair plane today!

The 'fleet' addition makes this game so much more fun.

u/Cumulus-Crafts — 23 days ago

Really enjoying the 'fleet' addition, it's brought back my excitement for this game

Before, if I'd already caught a plane enough for it to be silver/gold, I'd just leave it, because I don't really play battles. My main goal of the game was catching any plane model I hadn't caught before. Now, I'm trying to fill out all the fleets, and I'm catching planes regardless of bronze/silver/gold :)

A380 and an A318, nose to nose

I knew the A380 was big, but it makes the A318 look like a toy plane in comparison!

This went through probably multiple peoples' approval and no one noticed the five legged dog?

A320 taking off out of INV, didn't realise until today that the takeoff distance for an A320 is 5000-7000ft and INV runway is 6191ft!

Explains why they took the plane right the way down to the start of the runway to give it a proper run-up! Seemed like a very speedy/sharp takeoff too, but I'm no expert

Dutch expats, what's the one home bake you miss most from the Netherlands?

My Dutch friend is doing a big favour for me and refuses to accept payment. We both live in the UK.

I have some friends that were born internationally and moved here, and I like to bake stuff from their home countries as a 'taste of home' for them. For example, for my South African friends, I've made hertzoggies and koeksisters before. For my Polish friend, I made her szarlotka. For my Cypriot friend, I made her vasilopita.

What's that one dessert/bake that you really miss from home? I don't really want to ask her many questions about what bakes she likes, in case she becomes suspicious!

Have you done a secondment at work?

I've worked in the ecommerce department of my workplace for four years. I take customer orders, assist them with email/phone/live chat queries, deal with courier issues while our customer orders are in transit to them.

Today, my manager has told me I'll be going on secondment to the logistics department for two months, as two of the logistics staff have quit. I'll be liaising with couriers ect, but on a larger scale than the retail sector.

I'm a little apprehensive to move, because I quite like the place I've carved out for myself in ecom. I'm going from 9am-5pm Mon-Fri, to 8am-5pm Mon-Thurs and 8am-12pm on Fri.

Has anyone else done a secondment? How did it affect you? Did you like it? Was it good for your name within the company?

I'm an aviation geek, and I was allowed onto the flight deck during my two most recent flights!

I'm new to aviation, but very interested in it.

These two flights were the third and fourth flights I'd been on *ever*, flying to and from London for MCM Comic Con from my rural community in Scotland.

At the beginning of both flights, I talked to the cabin manager as I boarded. I told them, "Hi! I'm really interested in aviation. Is it okay if I look in the flight deck once the flight has landed, if you don't have a quick turnaround?" and both times, they were very happy to assist! Due to safety regulations after 9/11, they can't let you on the flight deck before takeoff/during the flight, but depending on the airliner, some allow you on deck after the plane lands. I waited until all the other passengers had left the plane before going into the flight deck, so that I wasn't interrupting post-landing checks or causing the people behind me to *also* ask to look in and potentially delay the pilots longer and longer.

The first two photos are in an Airbus A319, and the next three photos are in an A320neo. The A320neo is a slightly bigger plane, with newer engines compared to the A319. Both are short to medium haul jets. Both have the same cockpit setup, and if you're instrument rated to fly the A319, you can also fly the A320 and A321, since they're basically the same plane, just different sizes.

Both times, the pilots were very happy to have me in the flight deck (note- you can call it a cockpit, though the word 'cockpit' is typically reserved for fighter jets, where 'flight deck' is more for commercial airliners). On the flight out, one of the pilots explained that it was nice to have an adult interested in aviation in the flight deck, rather than the kids that aren't interested in planes, just put there by their parents for a photo.

On the flight back, the captain had timed out of his hours, but the first officer sat me down in the captain's seat and we talked planespotting, flight sims, SkyCards, Flight Radar, and my favourite plane (the Super Guppy). He went to throw out the flight briefing printout (the thing you see in the last photo), that tells you all about the weather, air pressure, winds, and visibility of the place you're flying to, along with your alternate landing sites. I asked if I could have it, and he let me have it, though he was pretty confused as to why. I thought it was a cool souvenir, but I think when you've been flying for so long, it just becomes a bit of fodder to chuck out after every flight, haha.

Sorry for rambling. I was just really excited to get to sit in the captain's seat and talk planes with likeminded (though much more knowledgeable) individuals!

They let me sit in the captain's seat, but they wouldn't make the man say 'pull up, pull up' :(

I even told them I had a particular fondness for the ground proximity warning!

It happened again!

I asked the cabin crew again if I could visit the flight deck after my flight home landed (my first flight on an A320neo) and they were more than happy to oblige!

They weren't rushing their turnover, so the first officer was happy to welcome me in, let me sit, and we talked planes for a while. I explained that I was still new to aviation, but I find everything about it *very cool*. Unfortunately, I just kept repeating "ugh, this is so cool" over and over in my excitement. He asked me what my favourite plane is, and of course I had to say the Super Guppy.

He reached up to turn on the cockpit annunciator and I went "Oh, the christmas lights!" and he went "Ah. You already know that trick, then." He sounded pretty disappointed at that 😅 he said that there's not much else that he could show me while the plane was on the ground, to which I said "I mean you could make the plane go pull up, pull up, I guess?" and he said "yeeeeahhh I probably don't want it to make that sound though 😬"

At this point, the captain walked in and I apologised for stealing his seat. He said that it was fine, and joked that I could fly them home while he takes the night off in Inverness.

The first officer threw away the printed communications and then I went "Actually... Is it okay if I keep that, please?" and he passed it over to me! I have no idea how to read it, but it's cool to have.

I won't be flying again until October and it'll probably be an A319/A320 again, but I'm looking forward to it! Sorry for yapping so much about it too, haha. Just a bit excited about getting to sit in a flight deck.
