Passenger Capability

Hey all, I just discovered the Navi and have been posting/lurking on this sub as of recently while I’m doing my research before possibly getting one. I live in a semi-rural neighborhood, at least a few miles out from my normal stops for shopping/breweries/food/etc, majority of the speed limits are posted from 30-45mph, mostly flat road, with some rolling hills here and there on the scenic routes. Would the Navi handle a noticeable amount with the extra weight (250-300lb)?

I’m mechanically inclined, and would plan to customize at least the CVT to handle the extra weight down the road, just curious how the Navi would handle the capacity stock.

How Compact Can Navi Be Made For Winter Garage Storage?

I have a two car garage that is generally snug with both cars parked inside, but there is a nice little gap in one corner that a bike should be able to park covered over winter (Wisconsin, so could be as long as 5-6 months lol). If I had a Navi parked on center stand against the wall, mirrors either folded in or removed, rear fender removed/modded, etc, what cubic dimensions could be pulled off? Anything else that could be done to tuck itself in?

ETB Sealed Promos

Came across a second Chaos Rising ETB, already ripped and sleeved the Fennekin from the first one, is it worth it in the long run to keep the second one in its factory seal with the dividers?

Hiking Around Loch Ness (Loch Ness 360)

I’m turning. 40 next year and my first bucket list item is backpacking around the entirety of Loch Ness in Scotland. I’m not planning to tent up or anything while on the route, so I’m curious if anyone has done it and how you parsed it out and where you stayed.

How Are You Expected To Work On Tubes?

1960’s Kewaunee Boiler needs new tubes but the left boiler door is blocked from fully opening due to the burner sections frame. We’re contemplating either removing the entire burner itself as we’re not sure if the boiler tubes will slide out with the edges of the blower section being slightly in the path, or rigging the door off. We already replaced one tube that was easily accessible and it did seem to have some float to allow the tube to slide in without being obstructed by the blower sections frame.

Any thoughts and/or experiences with these?

Recommended For Semi-Rural Use?

I’m maybe 10 miles out max from my local shopping stops, breweries, parks, etc. I would like to get back on a bike, but before looking into the smaller and affordable Navi, I didn’t really have the garage space to store a bike with two cars and I couldn’t justify spending so much for a standard motorcycle for my intended uses for it. I kind of live out in a rural area, more of like that grey area between farmlands and city, but like I said, a mere stones throw away from my usual haunts, with scenic roads that I could gladly use to avoid the higher speed limit roads.

Just curious if this environment sounds similar to anyone else here and if their Navi suits the occasional runabouts.

Too Late To Drain Water Heater?

I moved into my current house in late 2020 and I wasn’t made aware until recently that with hard water, I should be flushing the water heater annually. The heater was replaced by the previous owner, so it’s fairly new, but is going +5 years without flushing harmful now if I decide to do so?

Windshield Damage During Shop Transport?

Sorry as this is more legal advice, just wanted the consensus from the sub:

My car JUST came home this week after a month and a half of being repaired and I just noticed a nice, unrepairable chip with some hairline cracks creeping off it right outside of view from the driver seat. Got before and after photos from the shop and you can clearly see it not existing at drop off, and clearly appearing in the quality check after repairs. Now the thing is, the shop off-loaded my car to another branch of there’s the next town over, so it must have happened during transport. The initial repairs were on the hatchback door and rear bumper as I had gotten rear-ended, so the windshield was nowhere near anything they were touching, and they tried making that point real clear when I began inquiring during the photo request.

How liable is the shop since it happened under their care and what should I do if they try to deny replacing the windshield?

Upgrading 2002 Road Bike Cockpit

Slowly building a pile of parts to do a modernize rebuild on a 2002 Giant TCR2 this winter to make it a little more comfortable and less "roady". I have handlebars already but changing them out will require a new stem to fit 31.8mm and will have to be shimmed to fit the old 1" steerer tube of the factory forks. I still have to measure out the center to center to determine what its actual reach is, and I may bump it up from +/-6º to 15º.

This is my first time doing actual work on a road bike, so I'm curious what the sub would recommend for a stem and if theres any preference towards any shim makers.

What Is Happening To My Basil?

It appears to have been chewed up, but I’m not finding any insects near the potter. The only variable from what I’ve done in the past was mix in some of my own compost into the potting soil.

O-Ring For LCT Oil Filler Cap

After some cleaning and trial and error, I believe I found the source of an oil leak on my 208 series LCT for a log splitter. The manual doesn’t help identify the part so I’m just going off of Google ai image search calling it the Oil Filler Cap. I suspicious the O-ring is failing and oil is weeping from the seal. Would anyone know what size o-ring I’d need to replace and is there any special procedures that need to be carried out in order to replace, besides tilting the engine to prevent oil spill?

Giant TCR2 Upgradable?

My dad passed this bike down to me as he doesn’t ride anymore and he’s been riding it since purchase, so this bike has miles on it. I grew up with bmx so I have some knowledge and tools of maintaining and building a bike, so I was hoping that after this summer I’d break it down and upgrade the bike as much as I can over winter. I’m looking to make it a little more modernized where I can, tune it more to my build (even though I’m pretty much like for like with my dad), and possibly make it slightly more able to handle some rougher roads since I’m in a rural area and some roads can be a little tough at times.

Everything is pretty much stock on the bike besides tires, and of course the pedals as I’m not a fan of clipless and ride around more casually.

Being my first road bike, I’m not really too sure where to start and what my limitations are, hoping I could get some feedback and/or guidance from the sub. Thanks in advance!

Destratification Of My Bi-Level Home

Ive been experimenting for the past few years now and have yet seen results and maybe I could get some feedback here:

I own a bi-level home with a split entry that leads to either the partially underground lower level and the higher upper level. Through the seasons of extreme high and low temps of Wisconsin, Ive always noticed a temperature barrier in the stairwell of the split entry, in the summer time, as you'd expect, you feel the drop in temp hit you as you descend to the lower level and heat hit you when you climb to the upper. and its not just during the Summer, but in the Winter I will have my wood burning stove operating in the lower level and can get the lower levels space temp up to the 80's, but the heat remains trapped downstairs and you now hit a wall of cold air when you go upstairs. This also occurs when running my home furnace/ac. So far, Ive tried the following to try and get rid of that wall of stratification with the following:

-Run the furnaces air handler to circulate air, as the return is down in the lower level, so you would imagine that would obviously distribute the cooler/warmer lower level temps to the rest of the house.

-Placed a floor fan at the bottom of the stairs and have it pointed upward to the upper level. this has been most effective in the least, as it helps get rid of the barrier in the stairwell, but only because you're getting blasted with air.

-Cross ventilation, opened up windows opposite each other on both levels.

-Intake/Exhaust fans, cross ventilation but with a reversible window fan down stairs drawing in outside air from the north end of the house, and kitchen/bathroom/window exhaust fans running upstairs. I have also tried this without fans running on either end.

As mentioned, I haven't seen any progress with the experimentations. With the age of the house (built in '72) and unaware of the original layout/work done, I'm curious if it could be a loss of insulation quality in the roof, as the upper levels living room area is pretty open concept with a vaulted ceiling. I do plan to replace the roof in the next few years with a metal roof, and may consider reinsulating while its being done if that could be the case. If possible as well. I have also been looking into level-to-level transfer fans/vents.

is there anything else I should consider?
