American people views 5'8-5'9 as short height whereas it is average over there.
Even in Asian countries people claim their average is 5'9, some Indians and Pakistanis claim the average has increased due to nutrition and is now atleast 5'9-5'10.
South korea is the one of the most height obsessed country I've seen, they don't take guys seriously who are shorter and views them unnaturally.

I conducted a poll in indian statistics and ask india subreddit most of the people agreed to have average around 5'8.5. Which was taller than the actual numbers recorded by colleges which was around 5'7.5.
Whereas when I conducted same thing in an american subreddit people voted the accurate heights.

According to University of California, Los Angeles informal student dataset the average Height of straight male students recorded is 69.3 inches (176cm)(5'9.3)
This holds for many socioeconomic groups but doesn't count some underprivileged youth too. Also this was recorded in 2018 and after that america has recoreded a decline in average height.
So the average would slightly less than this around 175.5cm now.
