newyorker.comi wish the "download" button wasn't so buried
on iOS and iPadOS and also on MacOS, the Download button is needlessly buried under Options - it's FOUR taps just to get to it when i'm browsing through my podcasts (1st: Podcast; 2nd: Episode; 3rd: Options; 4th: Download). that's an odd choice for something so essential to the functioning of the app.
perhaps we can get the option to have either "star" (which i never use) or "download" in that placeholder, so users can configure as they wish. that would at least remove one step.
if you like news, Mu.social's "Newsrooms" feature works well
after using it for a couple of weeks, the "Newsrooms" feature inside Mu.social (which works with your Bluesky login) is pretty good. it's configurable, chronological (ie: it's NOT algorithmic and it doesn't use AI), and puts the emphasis on legit news organisations.
find it on the sidebar (newspaper icon) inside Mu Social or jump straight to https://mu.social/news to set it up.
How Meta Got Everything It Wanted in a Secret Louisiana Data Center Deal [NYT]
"Tracy Williams, 41, was evicted from her trailer park last July when her landlord raised the rent to $1,495 from $250 a month. She could not afford to relocate her trailer with only a month’s notice, so she and her family watched as a machine dismantled their home, cut it into pieces and “crushed it like a can,” she said. For the next three weeks, she and her four children slept in their car."
what fresh hell is this, youtube?
never seen this wording before on Youtube - specifically calling out VPN usage (yes, my VPN was on). of course, Youtube has been geoblocking for a long time ("content not available in your area blah blah blah"), but this VPN wording is different.
this is on the official F1 channel today. it occurred with a Los Angeles-based VPN server.
thankfully the message vanished and the video loaded when i changed to a Japan-based server. but still a bad omen for the future.
