Some pics from our last Shadowdark session. It was the second half of the Gauntlet.
We had a LOT of fun finishing our Gauntlet.
No beers, no cigarettes, no vapes, no drugs.
Just five nerds with lots of dice.

In this supplement we explore a short procedure that allows the Players to take part in the story-building exercise that are TTRPG games. With these rules, the characters get a meta currency that they can spend to make some lore changes in the world. The changes are not automatic as the GM also responds by setting the odds of this change to be applied on the world. It allows Players to share the creative burden and allows for a back-and-forth dynamic with the GM.

Since we restarted our Shadowdark RPG content, my brother Derek found the motivation to take a trip to memory lane and draw a map with traditional methods.
I think that these kind of maps work better with some systems and Shadowdark is one of them. The old-school, black and white style help the immersion and general vibe.

In Thick Blood, the heroes must face a blood-thirsty group of cultist gnolls. The people of Oaken Valley are being kidnapped and abducted from their very homes to be used as fuel for the cult's incantations. The evil gnolls venerate the ancient Pale Blood god, an obscure and elusive deity. Their blood rituals have not only become a threat to the small towns; they affect Lysander's Reach, the capital. The authorities need to deal with these abominate gnolls at once.
This adventure requires the heroes to gather their strength, call all their allies, and delve into the lair of evil gnolls. They must spear through the cult's ranks and maintain their morale against their blood magic. If they succeed, they will save the lives of many, and the allies made along the way might become their new friends and companions for adventures to come!
Skippy is an OSR Kobold, that's why he is black and white. He likes hats, so he gets a new one every once in a while.

They once roamed the earth as the masters of the universe. They were part of other planes of existence when men, elves, dwarves, and other humanoids did not even exist. These elder guardians are so ancient that they exist only in far-fetched words, drawings, and tomes. But perhaps it is just a question of looking in the right place.
Hook. The characters have never heard of these creatures, or all they know are myths and crazy tales. However, they meet Malcolm, an eccentric scientist who claims to be a paleontologist. He does not explain what that means but he assures the heroes that his team just made an incredible discovery. However, the place seems to be too dangerous for miners, explorers, and historians. This man hires the characters to make sure the place can be explored safely; he offers a reward of 6,000 GP.

Context: The party for my next game is a Goblin Fighter with 9 HP, a Human Thief with 1 HP, a Human Wizard with 4 HP, and me, an Elf Priest with 3 HP.
I do not picture the Wizard or the Thief spearheading any of our operations or missions. So that leaves the Goblin, which can definitely handle himself. But he is not omnipotent.
Priests can wear Heavy armor and shields. So, that helps. But any combat against 5-6 opponents will become difficult to handle in the open.
But I'm thinking the best approach is to hire some henchmen. We like to do that in our games; we hire a couple of dudes to load/carry stuff, a big tough guy, and perhaps even an acolyte to help with the wounded, outside of combat.
Do you also use hirelings in your games? How do you handle it?

Hey everyone,
I just wanted to share my joy. My group met yesterday and we completed our Gauntlet.
Out of the 16 peasants that went into the dungeon, only 7 survived. It is funny because I shared my Darkmantle drawing two days ago and one of my PCs died from a Darkmantle attack. It's like my post was a premonition of his death!
Two PCs died attempting to cross a simple 30-foot-deep pit (And they were using a rope! DC 9 STR check to descend). They rolled Nat 1's and fell to their deaths, breaking their necks hahahaha
In the end, survivors (seven of them) managed to get out of the dungeon alive and retrieve enough treasure to change their lives. Some of them opted to retire and open a business but four brave individuals crave for more adventure.
We're keeping it simple because we have 2 players that are new to the game. So we're just using the Core Rulebook's options for classes.
Party:
- Larry, goblin. Fighter. My friend Alberto is great at roleplaying games, he is an actor in real life. Ironically, Larry does not speak Common so he barely talks! (His choice). His background was Squire! So he was the only PC with a decent weapon (longsword). He dealt 7 damage with a single attack to the BBEG!
- Tepongo, human. Thief. My friend Martin. His decisions and plans within the dungeon were paramount for our survival. He's cunning and thinks outside the box. The dice gods were not kind with him for his Lv. 1 hero. He has 1 HP (-1 CON modifier).
- Mims, human. Wizard. This is my best friend Luigi. It is a miracle this dude made it out alive from the dungeon. He almost died three times. Interestingly, his background was Mage Apprentice and he has a decent INT score so it was a natural path for him to become a Wizard. He chose Burning Hands, Light, and Sleep for his Lv. 1 spells.
- Mirla, elf. Priest. This is my character! She was a parsnip farmer. She had a near death experience in the dungeon and barely made it out alive. This brought her faith to a different level and decided to become a St. Terragnis priest. She entered the dungeon with a hen and surprisingly, it survived the Gauntlet despite being used as cannon fodder a few times.
Can't wait for our next session.
In Hall of the Wyrmbone Anvil, a group of Level-1 heroes, up-and-coming mercenaries, hear of a famous blacksmith who can craft for them marvelous weaponry. The artisan is willing but her hammer must first be blessed in the eldritch energy of the Wyrmbone Anvil. There is only one problem: the forlorn hall is currently inaccessible as a strange, malformed abomination has emerged from the depths to attack.
The hall can only be accessed from within Green-Quartz Mine, now closed after the monster slew many miners. There is also the worrying appearance of aggressive, ape-like beings in the mine now. The Mining Guild loses money by the day, so they offer a sizable bounty for clearing up the mine. A squire in their employ accompanies the characters as they embark on one of their first quests. Glory and wealth await those who survive this perilous adventure.

Veldanterra, the city of “Ordesrois” the Flying Fortress. The Veldan region is a vast chain of small towns and villages that live off Veldanterra’s great economy. It is located next to the sea of Korr. Being the capital of the region of Veldan, this is a city that has it all: coastal waters packed with fish, coral, and seaweed. A river that forks in two, one side leading to the sea of Korr, and the other gives passage to neighbor towns and villages all along Veldan. Big farmlands with healthy, hearty soil to grow and sow. Enough military force to defend its walls, citizens, and neighbors. Some of the best horses and tracking hounds are bred here, and Veldanterra is also proud of their very able riders. And its most prominent and beloved attraction, Ordesrois, home to King Benedict, the Rider of the Skies. This is the name given to Kings since the day the castle has flown.
The flying fortress came to be no more than 300 years ago when Sir Gregory Redstream saved the life of Altalas, a wizard who happened to be traveling with said knight on the same unfortunate day and carriage. Their transport was ambushed by savage orcs on wargs. Most of the passengers were murdered and the horses butchered, but Sir Gregory fought as the knight he was and managed to save a couple of farmers, Altalas the wizard, and himself.
Altalas was just an apprentice, but he owed his life to Sir Gregory and swore an oath to help him defend Veldan and its people. The young wizard was true to his word and he dedicated his entire life developing a way to create the perfect fortress, an impregnable castle.

In this issue of Universes Collide, our ever-growing series, it is the Witch-king of Angmar and its fearsome bell beast mount who become part of the World’s Greatest Roleplaying Game with the power of imagination. Have fun and share!
Above the battlefield circles a nightmare born of shadow and ruin. A winged beast descends through the darkened sky, its screams piercing the soul like funeral bells. Upon its back sits the Witch-king of Angmar, cloaked in black robes, crowned with iron, unseen eyes burning with ancient hatred. Whatever they stare at, courage and light die. Plants wither, horses panic, and even hardened warriors feel death itself drawing near. No sane hero wishes to stumble upon any of ‘the nine’, let alone the Witch-king and its fell beast.
Universes Collide is a monthly growing collection of popular characters in movies, series, and books. All of them made as fan-art and distributed freely., download all issues Here.
