Have you ever just walked out on sale without test driving because the seller was just shady?

I recently went to check out a Rav 4 that was fully loaded and priced really well. The car was pretty mint, shiny black paint and barely any creases on the leather seats. But pretty quickly, the seller’s story stopped lining up with the ad. I asked him a few questions about stuff he mentioned in the listing and he couldn’t really answer any of it. It felt like he just copied and pasted someone else’s ad.

He kept going on about how he’d owned it forever and was the original owner. Luckily, he actually gave me the updated CARFAX, during our meet up and refused to give me the vin before hand. I read it over quickly and saw an accident on it. I started asking more questions. First I asked about his ownership said he originally bought it two years ago and was not original owner like his ad said. Then when I asked if it had a clean title or any accidents and he said no. Then I questioned the CARFAX showing an accident and he admitted the front had been in an accident and there were codes for seatbelt and airbags showing on the dash. He had replaced the bumper himself so from the outside it looked great. Then he tried saying it was “clean and accident free.”

After that, I checked underneath the vehicle and noticed a bunch of dried oil around the engine block. When I asked about it, he told me he had a wrangler leaking oil and the Rav 4 had been parked over it for a year, so apparently the oil “splashed” onto it.

That’s when I walked away. Such a waste of time.
