i need to vent because i am losing my mind over how useless reddit’s banning system actually is.
i recently became a mod for a subreddit meant for teenagers, and our team has been working around the clock to keep it safe. we’ve been incredibly active and have been heavily banning pedos, creeps, and complete weirdos. but here is the incredibly frustrating part: banning someone literally does next to nothing.
it only stops them from posting and commenting on the sub. that’s it. it doesn’t block them from lurking, it doesn’t hide the content, and most importantly, it does absolutely nothing to stop them from clicking on a vulnerable kid's profile and sliding into their dms.
we have literal 30-year-olds targeting and dming teenagers, and as mods, our hands are tied the second they move to private messages. we can ban these creeps a thousand times over, but they are still lingering in the shadows of our community, completely free to harass kids who don't know any better.
it is so deeply exhausting and terrifying that reddit doesn't have a better system to completely block banned users from even viewing a community, especially when it comes to protecting minors. we've had to put up massive warning posts telling the kids to block and report them to admin, but we shouldn't have to rely on teenagers to defend themselves against predators that we already caught and tried to kick out. it’s an absolute joke.

hey everyone, just wanted to drop a quick update from the new mod team. as you’ve probably noticed, we’ve been way more active around here lately and have been cracking down hard on the subreddit. we’ve been heavily banning pedos, creeps, and other absolute weirdos to try and keep this space as safe as possible.
but we need to give everyone a major heads up about how reddit actually works. unfortunately, being banned from a subreddit only stops these creeps from posting or commenting publicly in the community. it does not stop them from viewing the sub, and it definitely doesn't stop them from opening up your profile and sending you a direct message or chat request.
so please take this as a serious precaution. if you are ever approached in your dms by any of these weirdos, do not engage with them. make sure to report their messages directly to reddit admin, block them immediately, and please screenshot it and send a modmail to let us know so we can keep track of them and make sure they’re completely removed from our end too. stay safe out there y'all.

over the past few days, i’m sure we’ve all noticed the massive influx of p-do and weirdos invading our community. following this, we’ve stretched the mod team and we are taking immediate action to clean things up.

the age limit is non-negotiable
this subreddit is strictly for people between the ages of 13 and 20.
if you are under 13, you shouldn't be here.
if you are 21 or older, please leave this subreddit immediately. you do not belong in this space.
if there are people in this age limit that engage in inappropriate behavior in other subs, but not here, it is not our responsibility. our focus is to protect THIS sub, not restrict what people do on other subs.

how to report creeps
if you receive a creepy dm or see someone acting inappropriately in the comments or dms, here is how to handle it:

1. do not engage with them.
2. screenshot the evidence.
3. message the mods directly with the proof so we can issue a permanent ban and report them to reddit admin.

additionally, when you get a creepy dm, please use reddit's built-in report button on the message itself before you delete it. this reports them directly to reddit administration so their entire account can get nuked from the platform, not just our sub.

"exposing" posts will be deleted
starting right now, any posts "exposing" these pedos will be deleted.
we know your intentions are good and you want to warn others, but we are actively trying to clear the image of the subreddit after a very weird week. constant public callout posts clutter the feed and make the sub look completely unsafe to outsiders. let us handle it behind the scenes.

please protect your privacy
mods can ban creeps from posting or commenting, but you can't stop them from browsing the sub and messaging people. adding a tip on how users can protect themselves is huge. avoid posting face reveals, your exact location, or links to your personal socials (insta, snap, discord) on the public feed (unless you’re comfortable with being approached). don't give these weirdos any extra info.

i’m going to start uni this sept and i gen don’t know how to cook and i was wondering, for those in self catered dorms, what do yall make for dinner? bc i dont want to be spending a lot on food when i can just spend it on ingredients that i can use overtime. obviously ill learn to make some food before i leave, but id like to know things that wont take up too many ingredients, and those that i can cook up fast so i dont waste time!

i’m just kind of bored of this sub being just strictly pedos and exposing said pedos. i’d love to start a sub that’s properly modded and have people active on this sub as mods there. lmk what yall think?
