Biking Beginner

Morning! Just moved to East Bay and looking to get into biking. Are there there any beginner friendly bikes or trails you recommend? I have a vehicle so I’m quite mobile and can go on the other side of the bridge. I really don’t know how much a “good” bike is but hoping to stay ~$500 for my first one. Thank you!

Edit- this would be for mountain biking

When you hold eye contact with someone longer than usual, what's typically going through your mind?

A group of us from my side gig decided to get some drinks and food after work. Now I'm fairly new and the youngest at the outing in my late 20s. One of the men was maybe in his early 40s and was constantly looking at me & when I met his eyes, he didn't look away. I had to be the one to break eye contact every time. When he would share things with the group, he tended to look back at me to either see my reaction or just directly tell me what he was saying that could have been said to the whole group. He always maintained strong eye contact.

I know eye contact by itself doesn't necessarily mean anything. Even for me, when I'm public speaking and someone has strong eye contact with me, I tend to maintain eye contact just because they seem more attentive.

Inversely from my first question, when someone consistently holds eye contact with you longer than usual, What's your first assumption? Does it mean anything to you or do you just shrug it off?

28F looking for clean chats

Hello! Looking to chat with people on an occasional basis. I’m usually pretty busy during the day so I can mainly respond and keep up with conversations on evenings and weekends.

Feel like I'm starting over a bit and would like to talk with people who are going through something similar or have gone through it. That or just random things that pop up in your day to day that you may not have anyone else to talk to about. Transitioning is lonely and overwhelming in the beginning.

Prefer not to get too personal so if you're looking for deep connections, talking very frequently or the like, I am not your gal!

If anything l've said resonates, or you’re interested, send a msg or drop a comment! Prefer my age or older.

Does anyone work a non gov PT job?

I’m new to the government and looking to get a part time role just to have some extra cash flow and pay my bills. I believe I have to get this approved by the ethics board? If you’re currently working PT, what was the process like to get approved and do you work in a field that is the same as your FT job?

DAE love looking at or experiencing things bigger than themselves?

Let me explain. I am fascinated sitting at the dock and watching enormous cargo ships sail by. Don’t get me started on large planes. I can watch them land and take off all day and genuinely feel content. Large bridges that help transport thousands of people each day living their own unquiet lives? Wild. Thinking about perspective and just how small we are in comparison is so very interesting and calming to me. Non object related— being part of a larger mission/ like minded community? Amazing.

It is VERYY ironic though because I actually get a claustrophobic feeling being on ships too long and I hate flying 😭 other than the fear aspect, does anyone else feel this way? Is this sentiment called anything in particular?

Yay or nay Walnut Park Apartments on Walnut Blvd

Read mixed reviews on these condominiums in Walnut Creek and while some were from recent years, most are 10+ years old. Negative reviews noted that the water would shut off often, walls are paper thin, maintenance would take a long time repairing things, management wasn’t always responsive (although its new management now I think). Any insight would be appreciated.

Healthcare professionals - what are you doing for a second stream of income?

I work a full-time job in healthcare ops/admin and am looking for ways to earn a second income that still leverages healthcare knowledge & experience. I’m also open to pursuing a certification or credential if it could lead to flexible work with strong earning potential.

What are you doing for additional income (healthcare related), how did you get started, and if certifications played a role, which ones have been worth it for you? TIA!

Moving across the country for a job in less than two weeks, how do I tell my dad?

I’m moving for a job and I just found out about this a few days ago. I’m the last child at home and my mom already knows but my dad has no idea. When I told him during my job search that I may be moving to a state within a few hours driving distance he was upset, thought it was super far and was still holding onto hope that I would find a job nearby. For context we live about 20 minutes from each other now. He’s also in his 80s and has acute and chronic health illnesses that make me very stressed about being so far away with his visits to the hospital. He also absolutely refuses any home health help, even a few times a week and isn’t timely with his appointment schedule.

My older sibling actually made the same cross country move a few years ago and he absolutely flipped and verbally demonstrated very distressing thoughts. They were closer than we are, but since I’m the last child, I’m afraid of that same reaction. Should I just tell him I’m moving a few states over or do I tell the truth? Maybe psychologically the thought of me being closer would be better for him than knowing I’m that far away?

I’m not turning the job down because it would be an amazing opportunity for me financially, professionally and personally (aside from the distance). With this job market I can’t be picky.

Interview with HHS OIG/OEI

Anyone here interview with HHS Office of Evaluations and Inspections within OIG for the Social Science Analyst Pathways role?

I have an interview coming up and was wondering what the hiring process was like, what kinds of questions they asked, and anything I should specifically prepare for.

This is my number 1 role so I want to make sure I do everything I can to get it. Thank you!!

How do you grieve people who are still alive?

Not from terminal illness or anything like that. More so grieving a version of them you wish existed. Especially when they are still actively in your life. How do you have a healthy relationship with them knowing it will never be how you envisioned?

Edit: for some context, the relationship I am referring to is that of my parents. I am not going to go no contact or anything, but just want our relationship to be better without feeling a twinge of sadness all of the time knowing they aren’t the kind of parents I’d want to be for my kids.
