Should I turn off the grow lights while on vacation?

I know that my plants need light since my apartment doesn’t get much of it but I am also worried about safety. Should I leave the grow lights on or off (theyre on a 12 hour timer)?

Ps - I am only gone for 3 days

Does 432 hz music work for plant growth?

I recently found some 432 hz relaxing music on YouTube that claims to stimulate plant growth. I thought this was ridiculous but read the comments and a lot of people said they experienced some kind of benefit to their plants. I have some snake plants that are several feet away from a north facing window and I without a doubt see some growth -not crazy fast but definitely some bright green new foliage (bought the first one about 2 months ago). Now, I totally love my plants. Sometimes I am even affectionate with them lol 😂 I water them based on their needs, fertilize them, clean them etc - they have a loving plant daddy 😄 So I have to take all this into account too. Maybe its all the care they get from me. Maybe its a boost from the music? Maybe its a combination of both? Thoughts?

My whale fin’s rhizome is poking through the soil!

Is it normal that my snake plant’s rhizome is poking out of the soil? I think it might have slowly uncovered due to watering because it didn’t seem to be poking out when I repotted her. When should I separate her baby? Is the current pot too small?!

Will my rubber tree be OK under a grow light?

I had a rubber tree near a north facing window and it wasn’t giving me much growth (receiving about 500 lux according to a light meter). Today I moved it under a grow light in that same north facing room. Can I expect any relocation related stress from my plant?

What’s your experience using an AC unit while having a lot of houseplants?

Forgive me for sounding like a broken record but I am still constantly worried about running the AC when we have so many houseplants. My partner and I live in a third story apartment and it gets pretty humid and hot in our area during the summer . We like to run our AC a lot bc our apartment quickly heats up when its hot outside and becomes very humid too. We usually never let it run below 72 degrees bc that’s just too cold for me. We have the AC in our living room. Its facing North and this is where we display most of our plants, too. For some time I was moving the plants to the bedroom bc the AC unit is about 3-4 feet away from the plants -until I heard that they don’t like being moved around a lot. So now I just leave the plants in their permanent home: in our north facing living room, near the window, which is also near the AC unit. I am worried about killing our plants. Surely, there are thousands of people out there who run their AC and have plants.

What are your thoughts about this? Am I over-worrying? Would love to hear your experiences

Suggestions for watering plants when traveling?

I have about 40 plants. They’re pretty low maintenance for the most part (my monstera is probably my only plant that requires weekly watering (during summer)). I travel periodically, and have some upcoming trips around the corner.

What are some of your recommendations for ensuring that your plants get enough water, for both short and long term travel -Preferably that goes beyond asking a friend/neighbor?

How much light does my rubber plant need?

I got her about a month and a half ago. She’s cute. She’s growing quite slow though. Has probably sprouted one leaf since getting her. She currently sits near a north facing window and I only water her when her soil is dry. Is she fine where she is now or do I need to supplement her with a grow light? - I swapped her placement w a snake plant, who is now sitting about 5ft away from this exact window and is surprisingly seemingly thriving (seeing active new growth and looking green and vivid)!

Anyone know what plant this is?

Will she grow more full?

She has grown a lot since we first got her. She was only about a few stems about a month ago. But she looks a bit thin. Will she grow more full eventually?

How should I style all my plants in my living room?

I have a lot of plants, I know. It started out with a few gifted plants and then my love for them just blossomed. Caring for them and watching them thrive brings me so much joy, I just love them so much 🥰 -this is only my living room though, I have plenty of more plants of different varieties around my apartment lol.

While I ofc want my plants to thrive by strategically placing them where their needs will be met, I also want my space to look and feel super cozy. I have put so much thought and effort into my space that it definitely feels like home. My space has definitely evolved over the years and this is how it looks now , and I don’t see a need to change it - except perhaps the placement of the plants.

I am not a big fan that some of my bigger plants are crowded in a corner. At first it was bc they received more light near the window but I now have several grow lights that thats no longer essential. While some of them will be ok in lower lighting not all of them will.

How would you suggest styling them and dispersing them throughout this room? - I have considered hanging some more of the trailing plants from a wall hook/bracket, on macrame wall planters, putting them on shelves etc (I currently have them on wood plant stands of varying heights).

Would love to hear your thoughts!

Fertilizer recommendations?

What fertilizer would you recommend for most house plants? I have snake plants, a monstera, several Pothos, a ZZ plant, multiple succulents and the list just goes on honestly lol

Light meter tool or app?

I was thinking about investing in a light meter tool to help w accurate placement of my plants. I know there are light meter apps out there w good reviews though. I don’t mind the additional small expense for the tool but its also another thing that I have to figure out a home in my small space for. What’s your experience w the light meter app and/or tool? Would you recommend one over the other?

Please help!

I noticed that one of the leaves on my monstera is yellowing. I had a scare w thrips w my last one so I am feeling anxious 😬 I used systemic granules this time. She gets watered about every five days (I check her soil before watering) and her other leaves seem to be healthy. I inspected her leaves and she looks clean. This is a lower leaf so I am wondering if she isn’t getting enough light. But I also see a few specks on that one yellow leaf. Any advice would be appreciated! 🙏🙏🙏

Is my spider plant ok in this pot?

I brought her home about a month ago and I still have her in her 2” nursery pot. She’s fairly small and doesn’t appear to be root bound (I checked). I’ve been bottom watering her bc her soil seems hydrophobic (her soil already was extremely dry when I first bought her) but I think its holding onto water better now. How much longer can I leave her in her nursery pot (the gray pot is simply decorative)?

u/Freddie515 — 15 days ago

Did I pot her correctly?

I accidentally knocked her over and had to put her back into her pot. I was afraid I damaged her leaves but it looked like she was multiple cuttings, that it was hard to tell what to put under the soil and what not. So I am worried that I may have potted her incorrectly. Thoughts?

What am I doing wrong?

Tbh, she looks kinda ugly. I had her under a grow light and I think she started growing towards the light but she was always leggy. I also recently repotted her and brought her home about 2-3 weeks ago. She is in a ceramic pot with a mix of succulent and happy frog soil. I have only watered her twice since I got her (including today). Am I doing something wrong?

How to properly water my fiddle leaf fig?

This is my first FLF. She is still young and doing her best! 🥰 I keep hearing mixed answers about watering her. I have read to let the soil completely dry out and I have read to only let the top 2 inches dry out. So far, I have been letting her pot completely dry out between waterings. But I’ve also noticed new foliage with red-brown speckles. I am afraid to overwater her and risk root rot but I am also afraid to underwater her and cause her to shrivel. So which is the correct way to water her??

- she is also currently about 6ft away from a south facing window. I supplemented her w a grow light bc I pushed her slightly out of my path, slightly behind a wall.

u/Freddie515 — 27 days ago

What’s wrong with her?

I bought a baby spider plant a while back ago. I have been isolating her in a separate room. I’ve noticed some marks on the foliage. Specifically the brown tips and a few small spots. Is it pest damage?

Ps - she is still in her nursery pot and I give her distilled water when she is dry (bottom water her).

Is this pest damage?

I bought a couple of snake plants a while back ago. I have been isolating them in a separate room. I’ve noticed some marks on the foliage. Specifically the holes. Is it pest damage?
