Unique Belgium

I registered with the recruitment/ "talent?" Agency Unique Belgium. 3 times now they have contacted me directly with personalised job roles or requests, some that actually look like an excellent fit for me, both by sms or e-mail, and an exploratory meeting with "my" file manager. I follow the instructions in the message and contact them accordingly, usually on the same day or the morninf after of course.

Each time I've had to nag them and follow up, and every time they either do not answeranswer r extremely late (like 10 days after the deadline) or they do not secure an interview in the end. They also don't give any notification that the role is no longer available and leave you hanging.

One woman invited me to something bur gatekept the address. I asked her constantly to provide it. She would not answer and I escalated to the general secretariat and they would not answer either. When I called her out on it, she pretended it was a "technical error" or a "misunderstanding" and not a direct invitation even though she had incited me directly. When I told her she had causer me to miss the event because she answered me past the deadline, and, she would not reveal the address she didn't even apologise.

It seems this agency gatekeeps international roles that I am actually good at, but if I follow up, and they just ignore me, are out of office or use noreply emails (and don't answer the phone, obvs) then what am I supposed to do? Is it a quota system, where they just have to show they made contact?

All my previous roles in belgium, I contacted the institution/employer directly without the use of a third party.

It is not only rude but deeply delusional to invite yourself over after 1 dry opening text

People, usually in my case men, stop doing this irregardless how sexually liberated the place we live in is. Literally opening text "wanna have fun at your place tonight?" "Let's meet up now and see where the night takes us" or usually much dirtier things.

- it's not only disrespectful, it's pathetic on your part (and lazy)

- I don't know you like that

- You have made zero effort to even get to know me sxually let alone turn me on and you expect sex. A swipe right is consent to contact your profile, nothing more.

- No woman has ever said yes yet, so why do you think I would be the first? Stop wasting both our time and insulting me in the progress.

You just get reported and get your profile posted in groups where we make fun of you.

Unless you both have written "looking for one night stand" on your respective profiles, no one agrees to this.

Yes, it happened to me as a child and an adult in the streets. No it is not something I am wearing. Yes, it does happen on other apps.

Yes, these are people in their thirties and forties, not teenagers. Yes, it does hurt to ask.

Thank you for coming to my ted talk.

ALDI vs LIDL

Hello, for those of you who shop frequently at both, which one is better? I have been taking the pendelbus to Lidl but it only takes me half way home and I have to walk the rest with all the groceries. I was wondering how good ALDI is good for vegetables and fish/meat, frozen is fine. And is it really cheaper or costs about the same? The only ALDI is just along the ring, i think, I would have to pay 6 euros for the bus.

Thanks

Non-stop blasting music (14 May 2026)

Wondering if anyone knows the name of the event that has been ongoing all day, so I can see what time it ends. Thank you

People watching their phones on loudspeaker in public, legitimately no hate, but what is the matter with you?

Serious question for people who do this.

Happened more times today than I can count. On the station, in the train, waiting inside a cafe, on the bus, when everyone else was dead quiet. The biggest "offenders" are reels and voice notes.

If you do this, WHY? I have NEVER understood. Doesn't it make you cringe that everyone is quiet and we can all hear you watching brain rot? Or your private conversation?

Please stop telling people not to "spray apply" and offer some good advice instead

.... that will guarantee an interview that DOESN'T INCLUDE SPENDING MONEY.

We have all said and done the usual:

- network

- register with job boards and recruitment companies

- tailor your cv for every application

- offer to volunteer/ do free work / intern

- follow up with the interviewer.

What else?

Nowhere to read/study without irritating music or other loud distractions

I'm looking for recommendations, once again, of cafe's/establishments to work quietly or just read. I noticed once quiet/chill places to read/study or just hang out have increasingly started playing louder or more irritating music (by irritating I mean all the overplayed songs we hear on social media or something crazy upbeat when they used to essentially play quiet elevator music). Even as soon as the doors open, which used to be the most quiet hour (8-9 am or 9-10 am) they straight up start blasting, leave the doors open so your can hear all the commotion in the road, probably in hopes to attract customers.

I think I have tried every place in town, if you can recommend something that's not on the list, please leave a comment.

Won't bother with a rant because I suppose we're all feeling the same way here. The longer I stay unemployed, the faster the money is running out, the more the bills come the more numb I get.

If yes, do you mind if I ask you questions about the exam experience? Like is it with a computer, a person, and is it indeed only 2 hours?

I was watching something, I think it was a live streaming from the European Parliament, and I saw the same people (not policy officers, nor anyone influential either) commenting over and over, different things, under the same post.

I thought it looked completely unhinged. Of course, the Parliament will never respond. They only time I comment is to answer some one's question, and if it's a live it's to ask questions as prompted and I usually go back and delete them.

I guess I am wondering if anyone here has benefitted from ever making a comment on LinkedIn. Did some one congratulate you? Offer you a job interview?

I've been trying desperately to find a job in another EU country that I can interview for and relocate directly to work there. Top options are the netherlands, Germany, Spain or Italy but I have no hopes there because the market is really bad, and I will take almost any other country at this rate. I have tried the obvious (EU agencies abroad, embassies, public administration) as I have more than 8 years of experience in EU public administration and some on the belgian private market. After years of this and being put on all sorts of reserve lists, that don't guarantee anything as you know, I am not prioritising the public sector and happy to go private too.

This is not the first year I've tried this but I'm being less selective this time and having basically no luck. I am sure the ATS sees I am living in Flanders and automatically screened out. Some jobs, like in Spain for example, ask you to fill in your NIE. If I fudge a number I am sure thus will just disqualify me.

Did you use any particular job board/website? Did you lie about your location? Some people say they did but I don't understand how they get selected in the end. I have to show my clean criminal record and residence certificate

Am I too cynical in thinking LinkedIn is a dead end?

Also, what movers company did you use for partial reimbursement from the commission at the end of your contract?

Thank you

A small personal vehicle (bromfiets/scooter) of mine insured by KBC Insurance was stolen and I reported it to the police as normal. Of course it was locked and when they asked me if I knew who did it, I told the truth and said no, of course not.

I sent the report to KBC insurance, they asked me the same questions, I answered honestly. They said they do not cover theft, only the legal costs related to theft. There have been, of course, no legal costs because filing the report was free.

I have seen KBC Insurance advertise that they cover about 900 euros for theft and I have the policy of course. How to appeal? Has this happened to any of you?

It is May and in the EU we have a lot of holidays in May. Probably happened to a lot of us, over the years, depending on what state of mind and state of my life I am in, holidays have become a marker of time when no one wants to spend quality time with you. As a child and a teenager, my mother would have her screaming "fits" that would last hours or occasionally days, enabled by my father, so non-working/non school days were just something you had to "get through" it was just emotional and mental abuse that no one intervened with, sometimes physical.

As an adult i eventually stopped tolerating it and stopped spending free time with them. sometimes I travelled but it was too expensive in high season so i often did it in low season. I gave up trying to rally my friends 90% of the time so i went alone.

When I was with my ex I had some one who put me first, for a while, but then he would often start fights and give "the silent treatment," particularly around holidays and birthdays, like my mother did, so that soon became a point of dread.

Like a lot of people here I am unemployed despite my efforts if searching when I was both unemployed and employed, and my aid and savings have bottomed out. So when holidays come it is just more time you know your applications are getting ignored, you'll be seen later if at all, then summer is coming, another excuse not to hire...
