Got some tint on the windows of my Trailseeker today. It really helps keep everything cooler inside.

I went with FormulaOne Pinnacle ceramic tint all around to the legal limits (well I went one shade lighter than the absolute darkest possible on the back windows). It's been in the 100s lately and I felt like I was being cooked while driving. Now it's much easier to keep the inside cool.

Trailseeker Tips & Tricks - little things you may not have known about your Trailseeker

I did the Love-Encore thing at my Subaru dealership yesterday, and while I was aware of just about everything, I did learn a few new things. I thought it might be helpful to list the quirks that I haven't seen mentioned much, if at all, in case others didn't know that these tricks exist.

  1. Does your seat beep at you when you move your seat forward/backward, and does the seat not always automatically return to its position when you start the car? (This was the main reason I agreed to set up the Love-Encore appointment because I was going to ask about this, but I finally figured it out the day before my meeting on the Trailseeker Forum website.)
    1. This is because the seat hasn't been calibrated yet.
    2. In order to get the seat to stop beeping, and for the seat memory buttons to actually work, you need to calibrate the seat by moving the seat all the way forward, all the way back, all the way up, down, and tilted all the way back and forward.
    3. Once you do this, the seat will stop beeping at you, and now, when you start the car, the seat memory settings will actually work.
  2. By default, the auto-unlock when you grab the driver's door will only unlock the driver's door, but it can still unlock all doors.
    1. If you want to unlock all doors with this setting set like this, you can keep your hand on the driver's door handle for an extra 3 seconds, and all doors will unlock.
    2. You can change this setting to always unlock all doors by touching the driver's door if you want, but I prefer keeping it the way it is, personally.
  3. If the hands-free gate open doesn't work and it just beeps at you, it's probably because you're keeping your foot under the tailgate too long.
    1. The Trailseeker has a safety setting where if your foot is under the tailgate too long, it won't open. This is to prevent it from accidentally opening in situations like if a cat walks under it.
    2. In order for this to work reliably every time, quickly move your foot under the tailgate and don't let it linger. One quick motion is all you need, and make sure you aren't too close to the tailgate itself (it won't open if you're hovering over the back too close), and it will open/close reliably each and every time.
  4. There's also a small circular Lock button to the right of the tailgate 'open' button.
    1. This will lock all of the doors without you needing to use the fob or walk around to the front doors to lock it.
  5. Sometimes the Lock & Close button on the tailgate doesn't work.
    1. This can be because the keyfob detection is in the door which is usually open at the time and a little bit further away at that point, so you need to make sure the key is close enough, and that you are out of the way after you press it.
    2. So if the key is in your left pocket, make sure your left side is closer to the car than your right side and vice versa.
  6. OTA updates are checked for automatically, but they aren't very frequent.
    1. I asked if they could check for updates because in the settings menu there's no way to manually check for updates. Apparently it checks automatically and if there's an update available, it will simply show up in the Updates Available section of the settings menu. For some reason I thought OTA updates weren't available.
  7. If your phone seemed to change its name to Passive, you can fix this by going into your phone's settings and updating it back to what you want.
    1. Not sure if this was just a 'me' problem but strangely enough, my Android phone changed it's name in the Bluetooth menu to "Passive" at some point after getting the car. I had to go into the phone settings and change it back. It'll automatically update in the car eventually.
  8. The trailer hitch is available to order, but may be on backorder.
    1. My quote, before labor, was about $700 - so with labor, it'll be around $1,000 USD, and it may result in losing the hands free gate open feature (unconfirmed, but sad if true).

I think that's about it, but I'm sure there might be something else I'm missing, so share anything I missed in the comments, or ask any other questions you have about a feature, and I or someone else here will likely be happy to answer.

Also, I asked them to turn off the reverse chime, and the service guy couldn't find the option in the settings now. They think Toyota may have changed the location of the settings somewhere in the dealer-only settings, but he couldn't find it after looking for a while, and it wasn't in its usual spot. If anyone knows where this setting is or where it may have moved to in the last couple weeks, let me know!

Mother is seen throwing her baby into their stroller, and then her husband and his... bodyguard(?) Confront the man for witnessing it and speaking up.

Happened in Vail, near the Solaris Residences. I'm assuming they're tourists but this behavior is sickening.

First camping trip with the Trailseeker

I had to adjust the levels a bit because there's quite a lot of light pollution at Jordanelle State Park here in Utah, but Ramses II handled the drive like a champ — even with it chock-full of gear.

Ramses II is ready for his first camping trip

I got a LOT packed in here. Two inflatable SUPs and electric inflator, a huge yeti chair, two other camping chairs, 4 sleeping bags, a Coleman camping stove with a small propane tank, duffel bag with clothes, travelpro carry on bag with extra stuff like chargers, toiletries etc, a Jackery battery unit, 3 life jackets, my kids first fishing pole, tackle box, sleeping pads, and a tent, and a cooler among some other stuff I've probably forgotten. The space below the trunk panel held a lot of stuff really well too, which was nice.

I can't wait to take this guy up into the mountains and let him check out Jordanelle State Park (in Utah).

Aloow me to introduce: Ramses II

I was quoted sometime in late July for delivery, but by some miracle I got this bad boy early.

First impressions: I absolutely love it. My 7 year old loves it too because of how quick it is haha. My only complaint is that the key fob is pretty big and boring looking, but otherwise, he is a perfect lil Bronze Age Pharaoh.

He's a Trailseeker Limited and I got my payment at $515/mo 0% APR with service and windshield contracts which is pretty incredible.

Trailseeker delivery will be earlier than I was quoted! A Fathers Day miracle

I ordered a bronze Trailseeker Limited on May 31st and was told it'd be available in late July, but my dealer just texted me today to let me know it arrived in the local railyard already, and should be ready to go next week!

I haven't had time to get a level 2 charger installed yet but I'm hoping I can use level 1 in the meantime.

I'm stoked!

This gives me hope that there will be official recordings from the Red Rocks show

Name your price, Conor. I'll pay it. It might devolve into a documentary about how weather can ruin everything, which will also be very interesting to watch, but throw in full song recordings, backstage banter and behind the scenes stuff, and I will be all over it.
