Parental Inheritance shouldn't be Premium only

If ppl are Phased (have at least one parent tested so this new tech/algorithm -they're using since this P.I. update- is not necessary), they should still be able to access the parental breakdown as before

I get it, that now for Premium, everyone can get it without testing their parents

But if testing a parent is more costy than 1 year Premium, who will go for that? So even as a monetuzation model it's a mistake, and I think this is an unethical approach (moneygrab) from the get go. To put free stuff behind paywalls

All my Parental Inheritances / Az összes Szülői Öröklődéseim

From the most recent one (which shamefully put this feature behind Premium's paywall) to the first (with gratis AncestryDNA one from 2025). Nothing changed results-wise, just the overlay. But since I was already phased with both my parents, this doesn't surprise me

Any ways around the Portrait Maker not updating the portrait?

I have a new hairstyle irl, have some new items so I wanted to change my portrait on harrypotter.com/profile but the changes won't appear after I click "Complete Portrait" but remain saved when I want to open it and edit again. I tried laptop and phone too, cleared site cache already. Is there a fix?

I did FTDNA's Big Y / Megcsináltam a FTDNA Big Y-ját

And I wasn't lucky, as I belong to a rare haplogroup, but here are how it went / És nem voltam valam iszerencsés, mivel egy ritka haplocsoporthoz tartozom, de itt van hogyan zajlott le:

  1. Kit ordered / Teszt rendelés: 2026.03.10

  2. Kit shipped / Teszt postázva hozzám: 2026.03.11
    1 day / nap

  3. Kit reached borders / A csomag elérte a határt: 2026.03.26
    15 days / nap

  4. Got my kit / Megszereztem a tesztem: 2026.04.07 (I had trouble with the toll handling / volt némi fennakadásom a vámkezelés miatt)

  5. I sent my kit to the Hungarian FTDNA Team (because they have a working method to post these back to the USA and it's cheaper with multiple participants) / Átküldtem a csomagom a Magyar FTDNA Csapatnak (mivel van egy kidolgozott módszerük arra, hogy az Usába visszaküldjék és olcsóbb ha többen küldünk vissza): 2026.04.10

  6. Kit sent back to FTDNA / Csomag visszaküldése a FTDNA-nek: 2026.05.06 (as they waited for a certain amount of kits to send back together / mivel megvárták hogy egy bizonyos mennyiségű teszt összegyűljön, hogy együtt visszaküldjék)

  7. Kit recieved by lab / A teszt megérkezett a laborba: 2026.05.19
    13 days / nap

  8. Kit analization started / Teszt analizálása megkezdődött: 2026.05.20 (Batched; Batch 1721)
    1 day / nap

  9. Kit "completed" / Teszt "elkészült": 2026.06.11 (Y-111)
    22 days / nap

  10. Big Y result / Big Y eredmény: 2026.07.21
    40 days / nap

  11. My sample appeared on the global stats (might've changed my results if I wouuldn't be from a rare haplo) / A mintám megjelent a globális statisztikáknál (lehet változott volna az eredményem, ha nem egy ritka haploba tartoznék): 2026.07.31
    10 days / nap

Total / Összesen:
- Getting the kit: 18 days (without inexperience with toll) / Teszt megszerzése: 18 nap (a vámmal való tapasztalatlanság nélkül)
- Kit reaching lab: 13 days / Csomag laborba jutása: 13 nap
- Analyzation, result: 63 days / Analízis, eredmény: 63 nap

Despite my bad luck, I recommend it, as the more ppl test, the better it is for everyone. The best would be, if these tests (all kind of DNA tests) would be more common, more easily acquired in the East, as currently they often have a certain "Western Bias" / Balszerencsém ellenére, ajánlani tudom, hiszen minél többen tesztelünk, annál jobb mindenkinek. Az lenne a legjobb, ha ezek a tesztek (minden DNS tesztet beleértve), gyakoribbak, könnyebben beszerezhetőek lennének Keleten is, mivel jelenleg gyakrann van egyfajta "Nyugati Elfogultságuk"

IllustrativeDNA now has "HaploMapper" so I tested it out

It's accurate with my 23&me Raw Data, gives the same results as Cladefinder for Y-dna and my mt-dna report I got on 23&me. It's Illustrative's new, free tool

Now that I have tried out Premium, I have some suggestions

I'm really glad that the amazing u/23andMeAncestryTeam listened to our voices and made Premium available in many countries outside of the USA and now many of us can enjoy it who previously couldn't. I'm one of those. But now that I have seen how it is at first hand, I came to some ideas that could improve it, and I think the tech is already in it for most of these.

Historical Matches:
- Split them for Phased users for maternal/paternal side
- Show the placement of the shared segments like with the normal DNA Relatives
- Create a browsable map with our Historical Matches
- Show us our DNA relatives who share the same H.M. segments with us

Reconstructed Ancestors:
- Show us which segments came from which Reconstructed Ancestor
- Allow us to browse among our DNA Relatives who based on these inherited segmetns

Premium DNA Relative filters:
- Based on chromosome number and
- Maternal/Paternal side for Phased users

Unrelated to Premium suggestions:
- Allow us to put our Partner into our FamilyTree like with DNA Relatives, since we can already create profiles for them. This would allow even brothers-/sisters-in-law and other non-bloodrelatives to put each other into one's tree

I'd also like to hear about the suggestions for other users, so if you have some, write them down as a comment here, thanks!

Tóth Andi DNS-tesztet csináltatott, mert azt hitte van benne latin vér

Translated summary for English speakers:

Andi Tóth (Romanian-Hungarian singer) made a DNA test because she assumed she had Latin/Spanish blood.

Her mother did say they have some Russian ancestors and the test shown 20-25% Eastern European signaling mostly Belarus.

Tho she didn't have any "Latin" in her, she had 11% 'West Asian / Anatolian Turkish' from her paternal side.

Romania was also shown on the test.

She was satisfied with her results, and enjoys being mixed.

50% Reconstructed Ancestors / Rekonstruált Ősök

For clarity, these are the results thanks to the following people testing: / Az egyértelműség kedvéért, ezek az eredmények annak köszönhetőek, hogy a következő személyek teszteltek:
- my mother (their child) / anyukám (a gyerekük)
- my mother's brother (my uncle) / anyukám öccse (nagybátyjám)
- my grandma's sister (my great-aunt) / mamám nővére (nagynagynéném)
- my grandma's nephew (my mother's first cousin) / mamám unokaöccse (anyukám unokatestvére)
- I could also link my mother's materal 3rd cousin / továbbá hozzá tudtam adni anyukám anyai harmaduncsiját

(And me, but I wasn't necessary after my mother tested / És én, de én nem voltam szükséges, miután anyukám tesztelt)

Looking forward to add people to my paternal side, and for the "upcoming" greatgrandparent feature / Várom, hogy hozzáadhassak embereket az apai oldalamhoz is, meg a "közelgő" dédszülő funkciót

My Historic Matches / Történelmi Egyezéseim

How many do you have? Now that Premium is available widespread, you can see the amount even without paying. I have 33, my father would have 37, mother 28

Neked mennyid van? Most, hogy a Prémium széleskörben elérhető, fizetés nélkül láthatod a mennyiséget. Nekem 33 van, apukámnak 37 lenne, anyukámnak 28

Historical Matches, Reconstructed Ancestors & more is coming to more countries

Hey r/23andme,

Many of you outside the US have been asking when you'll be able to get Historical Matches, Reconstructed Ancestors, Distant Genetic Groups, and the rest of the advanced ancestry features. We know it's been frustrating to see other people talking about them and not have a way to unlock them yourself.

So we've been working on it, and we wanted to tell you here first!

We're preparing to launch a new membership focused entirely on ancestry, called Premium Ancestry. If you can already buy an Ancestry Service or Ancestry + Health Service kit where you live, you'll soon have a path to upgrade and get:

  • Historical Matches
  • Reconstructed Ancestors
  • Advanced DNA Compare
  • Clustering
  • Distant Genetic Groups
  • More DNA Relatives unlocked, plus advanced filters

Stay tuned!

My closest dna relative (excluding the rally close ones who tested because of me)

What are the odds! I know the town our families link on my paternal side, but my mother's maternal line is such an odd mystery with a less than half Hungarian-American
