Cycling is London’s fastest mode of transport

According to the GLA, average car speeds in London (rounded to nearest mph) are:

  • 7mph in central London
  • 12mph in inner London
  • 20mph in outer London

So the further in London you are, the faster cycling becomes vs. driving, but even in outer London cycling can be as fast if not faster that driving.

Plus you save money on fuel, insurance, road tax and get fitter doing it.

Director who oversaw Grenfell cost-cutting given Barnet senior council housing role on £158k per year salary

Grenfell survivors and bereaved relatives have criticised the “outrageous decision” to hire a director who oversaw cost-cutting at Grenfell Tower in a £150,000-a-year senior council housing role.

Laura Johnson, the director of housing at the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (RBKC) at the time of the 2017 Grenfell fire, has been appointed the permanent director of development and property at the Barnet Group, which manages the borough’s 13,000 council homes.

The Grenfell inquiry found that, in her previous role, Johnson pushed for a new contractor to carry out the tower’s renovation works on a lower budget, which ultimately meant metal cladding was swapped for combustible plastic-filled panels to save money.

Reject the anti-ebike/escooter moral panic. Cars kill 100 Londoners a year, bikes kill 0.

Recently saw a BBC scare story that kids as young as 9 (shock horror) are being injured riding on escooters.

Let's not forget that two kids were actually killed in Wimbledon by the SUV driver Claire Freemantle.

The real danger to pedestrians is from automobiles.

The best alternative to automobiles are electrified urban micromobility solutions like ebikes and escooters.

I'm aware that there are issues pedestrians face in terms of cyclists and scooters, but those are a result of poor urban planning forcing non-drivers to share 10% of the road/pavements whilst 90% goes to cars.

How can it be considered too dangerous for an ebike to exceed 15.5mph, but it's okay for a 2 ton vehicle to do 30mph through busy London streets? The speed limit on all vehicles in London should be 20mph.

The whole system is a fucking disgrace and the politicians are a bunch of fucking idiots.

Death of Jason Arday highlights the need for implementing Leveson reforms

Obviously the Tories just ignored Leveson’s proposals to regulate their right-wing bile machine, but this Labour government need to take action.

If they’re capable of implementing the Online Safety Act and social media bans, they should be able to get this done.

Teen denies endangering 165 lives on English Channel migrant boat

>A teenager accused of endangering the lives of 165 migrants by allegedly piloting a record-breaking dinghy crossing of the English Channel is to stand trial.

>Chan Mathok Atak, 19, originally of Sudan, appeared at Margate Magistrates Court earlier, where he denied endangering lives at sea during the attempt which set off from France last Thursday.

>He appeared with the aid of an Arabic interpreter and when asked how he wished to plea, denied having piloted the dinghy.

If you were a 19yo in Sudan - one of the worst countries to live in on the planet - would a UK prosecution deter you from attempting to come here?

These politicians just create the most useless laws.
