Made a Mistake with an Old Mentor. Feeling Very Guilty and Shameful.

Hi internet parents.

Today I had the opportunity to meet with an old mentor whom I had not seen in years. I was very excited, wrote it on me calendar and was responsive to them leading up to the meeting. However, I wrote the time o my calendar wrong, and they texted me as i was leaving to go to the meeting location (I was 15 minutes late) that they were leaving. They are a very busy person so I understand that they had to leave, and I was wrong about the time.

I texted them right away and apologized. Took accountability. They called me 20 minutes later and was joking. they seemed disappointed, but again I was apologetic and told them I felt bad about disregarding their time like that. They finished the call by saying "we can meet next time! Good bye!" and I agreed.

My mom had her own bout of anxiety over this (you see where I get it from) and instead of being reassuring, she just freaked out and yelled at me. She made me feel like this mistake that I made was life altering. Even after my mentor accepted my apology she was more focused on how this would make HER look. if that makes sense.

I know I made a mistake, I know I apologized and it was accepted, but I still feel badly. Just some reassurance would be nice.

Moral OCD makes me ruminate so hard on embarrassing or awkward moments with others.

Like I’m literally in college where things are supposed to be embarrassing but I’m just sooo caught up in how others see me, how I see myself, and if I am a good person. Like for example, being with people romantically is so hard because hook up culture is so prevalent. I got out of a relationship a few months and the one time I hooked up with someone I convinced myself I assaulted them.

The next one ghosted me and idek why I care so much im just convinced it’s bc im a bad person. LOLLLLLL.

Super weird loaded emotional interaction w/q father

My dad was away for the weekend and came home. my mom isnt here. i am 21 and my younger siblings are home. he came home super drunk and sat in the living room. he asked me to go sit with him after i set his dinner up for him. he asked me what i thought of him while he gripped my hand. he was literally passed out in his seat. he was saying stuff like "my parents never had this conversation with me," "do you think i am a jerk?" "I have done things for you, you do things for me." I had to sit there while he was wasted for 20 minutes while he gripped my hand. it was so uncomfortable. I told him i had to go shower.

Now i am sitting in my room feeling weird. obviously not the first time this has happened, this has happened my whole life, but this is always the worst part. sitting in it afterwards. i dont know if he will come back in here or if he will pass out downstairs and then i cant get my dinner. i cant fall asleep. he sometimes hides the car keys when he gets like this so no one can leave so i grabbed a pair in case i need to leave.

Just looking for some support really. i leave for university in a few days. i cant wait until i am financially independent.

It’s just so sad.

It’s just so fucking sad. It’s so fucking sad, man. I just wanted parents who loved me more than the fucking bottle. I wish they loved me and themselves enough to stop. They don’t even know who I am.

Job and Morals Dilemma: Realizing if I want to make enough money to move out, I cannot do what I have always wanted to do. 21f.

So for some context, my family is affluent. My father has a huge job on Wall Street and my mom does not work. They are both abusive alcoholics that have major anxiety disorders but REFUSE to get help no matter how much pain they cause my siblings and I. I am the oldest of 4. My mental health has deteriorated significantly since January of this year after my father went into a psychosis episode. Again, no one got help and no one is allowed to talk about it. Im so sick of it and have been suffocating this summer being home.

I am about to finish my final year of university and have a very good resume, Linkedin profile, and connections. I am doing well in school, i am an honors student with a 3.5 GPA and a double major plus extracurriculars. I work two jobs, but all of this is still not enough for my parents and I am still humiliated by them.

This summer, i worked at one of the nations leading health centers. I was a part of the fundraising team and absolutely loved it. I was able to do work i felt fulfilled in while also helping people. it was amazing. There were even whispers of a return offer but that was only verbally, so I am still openly looking for positions I can take up in 2027.

Something I am seeing now though, is that many jobs like the one I worked over the summer have very low salaries. These positions average to only 47k, which is not enough for me to move out which i desperately need. As I have been looking, ive noticed that there are positions in finance and business that I would actually be a great fit for with significantly more pay (90k+). While this is great, I am torn between pursuing something I have loved (helping others with my work and being a part of a great mission) and finally becoming free from my home life. What would you do if you were in my shoes?

Blocked ex on last social media.

So my ex and I had a messy ass break up a few months ago and I decided to block him on everything. Last week I saw that he viewed my profile on a social media platform I forgot to block him on. This means he had to search me up. It really threw me off. I had been getting better.

Last night I blocked him on that last social media platform. The ties are cut. Part of me still hurts and longs for him to reach out, to see me doing well, but I know it won’t change anything. Gosh break ups suck.

jealous of women who really want children.

This confession comes with a lot of shame. I am a young girl in my early 20s and i get so jealous when other women talk about wanting children badly. its so endearing and admirable. i am scared to have children due to a lot of childhood trauma i am still working through, and i cant think of starting my own family without demonizing children. i know its wrong. i am working through it. i already feel a lot of shame with that.

some women are so excited to have children. they get married to have kids, not to have husbands. i am so focused on my romantic partners, not the future kids. i dont even know if this makes sense. i wish i could be like them.

What Would Be A Good Career Path For Me? I’m Struggling.

Hello! I am 21F about one year out from graduating university. I am asking for advice on career paths based on the information I am providing in this post. Please let me know if this is too vague.

  1. I am getting my degree in history and political science. My GPA right now is a 3.5. I am an honors student and will be completing an honors thesis this year.

  2. I have experience in museum work and non-profit development. I had an amazing opportunity to work at one of the biggest non-profits in the US this summer and I really enjoyed it.

  3. I have amazing connections. Some of the best in the world. I just don’t know how to utilize them, or how to start with them. I’ve tried the whole LinkedIn thing but many of these people do not want their time wasted (understandable).

  4. I worry about salary. I don’t know how well non-profit development salaries will work with the life style I want.

This is a weird post but whatever it’s late. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Future seems so bleak it freaks me out.

I have one more year of university left and while I am excited to move on with my life, I am terrified of life post-grad. My main goal is to move out (my parents are addicts and abusive) and find a job, obviously, but I am scared how lonely and isolating life will be. University gives us so much community, how did you guys navigate the change?

My Father is wasted and my Mother is making me feel guilty for removing myself.

At the beach with my family this weekend. Showed up at lunch and my dad was wasted. He has been “sober” (really meaning only two drinks on the weekends) for a month. I told everyone not to trust him. Look who was right.

He’s been chugging whiskey since 9:00 am. Had a few drinks at lunch. He was berating my mom the entire time at the table and I had to keep changing the subject and keep everything chill. We then went back out to the car to grab our stuff. I could t find my wallet… come to realize he hid it from me in HIS BAG. I was freaking out.

I ran to my mom and I said “I’m leaving I’m done I can’t do this.” And she kept calling me crazy, telling me to calm down, and saying “this isn’t how you should react. You always want to cut everyone off. You being too much.” And I just kept saying “I’m done I’m done.” And walked home. I’ve never done anything like that before. My mom called me twice begging me to come back and I said no. It was really hard. I’m scared for when everyone comes home:(

I don’t feel the need to commit or anything, it’s just floating in my head and I’m really scared bc of my thoughts.

Can’t access therapy or counseling because of my controlling parents.

Hey guys.

Both my parents are very controlling and abusive and they are alcoholics. Win, win, and a win.

I have had the worst year ever but Ive also been insanely productive among the things I CAN control. Which is great! But I still can’t access much needed mental health support. I’m 19 and still financially dependent on my parents and they have access to all my spending history. YES I have tried to open my own bank account and start my own credit card! I got in a lot of trouble and I really don’t want to deal with that again.

I have developed a lot of concerning patterns revolving around my anxiety and I just really need SOMETHING to help me get through this last year at home. I signed up for an online therapy website through a friends card (paying her in cash) so I’ll see how that goes? I’m in the middle of a wave of rumination and anxiety right now I’m on the floor this sucks.

Dad has stopped drinking it seems but I’m still angry.

I didn’t expect to not feel angry if he ever stopped drinking, but fuck I am resentful. He didn’t care when he was abusing me And my mom and my siblings, he only cared when he got in trouble at work.

I’ve been begging to see a therapist. Anyone. Doesn’t anyone see me fucking struggling?? What the fuck?? He gets to see someone but I don’t?

Anxiety over spironolactone (21f)

Hi! Been overweight my entire life with excessive facial hair growth, hormonal break outs etc. I have never been tested for PCOS (I am getting blood work done soon) however when I was 18, I went on tret for my skin and it worked! My hormonal acne went away and my skin was soooo glowy!

It came back after a year and since then my hormonal acne always acts up around my painful menstrual cycles, times of high stress, and just kind of stays there.

I mentioned I’ve been overweight my whole life and anytime I tried to lose weight I failed. This past winter, I had enough and did research into PCOS and how women with PCOS lose with. After using those techniques, I’m 16 pounds down and counting! My body recomposition is coming along great and I am so proud of how strong I have become.

When my derm told me about spironolactone
For my hormonal acne a few days ago, I told her I would try it. She put me on 100 mg a day and I haven’t had the chance to take it yet.

Been reading about some side effects like weight gain and muscle loss. I worked very hard for my physique now and I still have fitness goals I want to reach. I haven’t been diagnosed with PCOS. I don’t know I’m feeling anxious now over the potential changes it could have towards my strength and body etc. any tips? Does every experience very aggressive and negative side effects?

How to treat yourself like a princess

Hi hiiii. Went through an awful break up for the past few months and have completely rebuilt my life! I have the discipline down, but recently I’ve really been missing the princess treatment one would get in a relationship. How do I feel like a princess without a man?

Bob Hair Growth and Health

Hi everyone! I cut my hair super super short back in November and have been growing it out since. I’ve had one haircut back in March but that’s it. My hair is very thick, so it has def kept the bob shape.

I know you can’t make your hair grow faster, but does anyone have any tips on how to get rid of this shape? Or maybe when it will go away? Should I get a haircut and ask for a specific cut? To maximize my growth I: use a silk bonnet or silk pillow case, eat 120 grams of protein a day, scalp massage, oiling mix hair masks…. I don’t know what else to do! It’s looked like this exact style for months it just puffs out!
