I'm intimidated by painting Chaos and think using Contrast paints would make it easier, can anyone vouch for chaos being easier with contrast?

I do Orks right now as my first start to 40K, but a lot of Chaos really interest me. Death Guard, Emperor's Children, Iron Warriors and Alpha Legion all are so cool to me.

When I first got into Warhammer I bought a test death guard model and I gave up because of how annoyign I found chaos to paint. Now that I'm more confident in my skills, and primarily use contrast, I want to see if other people think contrast paints work well on chaos.

Do you have any miniatures using contrast paints of chaos to share?

How do I recreate the oxidized light brass on the Alternate Arch-Knight?

HELP! I'm painting the Arch-Knight right now with this loadout, but I don't know what metal paint to use for the slightly bronze iron, as well as what shade or highlight to use! Any experience painters with suggestions?

Can I go to a Warhammer Tournament just to spectate?

The Warhammer Tournament is in Dallas this Saturday and since me and my close friend have really gotten into the hobby we want to go, but our armies aren't finished yet, so we want to go just for one painting class but mostly to watch other people play.

Is it fine to go to a 40K tournament just to hang around, or is it more of a strict business deal? Are cosplayers, and merch stands typically there, or is it JUST like a big room full of tables of guys playing 40k and AoS

First time painting Orks: some Boyz!

I got into Warhammer with Cities of Sigmar, but with 11th edition around I thought I would join up with some Orks! Trying out Bad Moonz rn but considering on switching to a Deathskulls scheme instead. Any thoughts? These 2 boyz are my 6th and 7th model I ever painted I think? Still working on my City of Ash box

Will my army be fine if I avoid using all the old units?

I am getting into Orks for my first ever 40K army and to be frank, I don't at all want to use any of the older Ork kits. I just like how all the new ones look naturally and don't want to collect other units till they recieve updates too.

This generally means I'm going to make an army without Mek's, Stormboyz, Nobz, Warbikes, or Flash Gitz.

Are any of these units reccomended or even necessary for a good army list? I'm going to be painting Bad Moonz or Deathskulls, so I might use either of the detachments themed towards them specifically.

I just got my City of Ash in the mail today and while looking over the box I wondered, what's the visual difference between a Gutter vs Night runner? Apart from just painting them different colours, I can't see a way on the physical model to tell them apart at a glance? Is it their base size? Weapon loadout? Idk.

When I first got into 40K, like most, I was a massive Space Marine fan and the Salamanders were my top pick. Later now that I actually got into painting tabletop I got into AoS and did Cities of Sigmar, but with 11th Edition I want to do me some Orks and Marines.

I like Iron Hands as much as the Salies, and like them more for how cold they can be, and honestly I've felt less attached to the Salamanders for how overly good they are.

Would anyone like to share some lore moments of Salamanders being more scary or aggressive? It'd help convince me to paint my 11th Edition Marines as Salies over BA or Iron Hands

Any proppa boy knowz that Red means Fasta, Blue means Lucky, Yellow means more Dakka, Purple means Sneaky, and Black means Tough, but what do you think about the other colors?

Orange, Pink, White, and even the more fancy colours like Burgundy, Cyan, Beige, Etc?

I got myself a box of Steeljacks and Yaegirs ready to build, and from what I've looked up, neither one of the 2 build variants for either unit are better than the other. Each option is worth it.

But nobody has explained what SPECIFICALLY the variants are best for? Close-quarters, Ranged, Anti-something, what? What are Close and Ranged Steeljacks best at, and what are Pistol or Shotgun Yaegirs best at?

I'm thinking of doing both Orks and Votann to start off 40k, and thought I'd start my Orks with some Wrecka Krew/Tankbustas. I know that the Kill Team kits are supposed to be built in certain ways when making them for 40,000 rather than Kill Team, so how are you supposed to build these guys for 40k?

Was playing with my cat and she jumped up on my desk, my first votann mini I was painting got knocked down right on the head and both antlers snapped off sadly

I'm building my Cavaliers rn, so far have gotten them, a Ironweld and Command Corps for my first AoS army.

I'm thinking of putting more of the bare helmets on my cavaliers so I'd have some spare cool helmets to put on Steelhelms, Fusiliers, Etc. Do they fit? Does anyone have some example images, painted or not, of fitting these helmets onto other models?
