Steel Challenge is great training for CCW.

I often hear people on here talking about having the time and money to train. I've always thought that Steel Challenge was a good way to get a fast draw, learn quick Target transitions etc. not to mention, it's fun.

Also, if you have kids, it's a great way to introduce them into shooting.

If you're not familiar with the sport, here's a video you can check out and see if it's something you may be interested in.

Enjoy your Sunday.

I look like Ray Charles with my Gray beard and transition lenses. Just a 90s kid trying to rock it in the 2000s.

Pantera shirt, Les Claypool pickups playing along to Tom Misch. You can tell I was a 90s kid.

Let's talk optics. What your favorite and why?

With a growing number of pistol optics and the increased reliability, everybody's got their brand. What's yours?

For me personally, I've owned a Sig, Holosun and Osight.

Osight SE is my current favorite. Why? Small footprint, decent size window and clear glass.

Oddly enough, the only optic I've personally seen malfunction was a Trijicon SRO that belonged to my shooting partner. It would randomly turn itself on and off. In all fairness to trijicon, they fixed it quickly and got it back to him in no time. I haven't personally experienced any issues with my optics.

I love OpticGuard.

When I first saw these I thought to myself: "what a silly gimmick. Why would I pay $20 for a plastic cover for my optic?"

Well, ended up having an ejector issue on one of my guns and it was slamming the rounds against the optic. Needless to say, I'll become a fan of these.

Some of my first optics are pretty beat up but the ones that I put these on, they look pretty much brand new. Not that that matters so much for everyday shooting but if you ever want to pull the optic off and sell it, it's easier to sell when it doesn't look like it's been beat all to hell.

Who has questions about getting into competitive shooting to get more efficient with their CCW?

I've asked this question here before but there's always new concealed carriers joining the subreddit. I absolutely love when we get new guys into competition that are continuously training and getting better with their concealed carry weapon.

For those of you that are thinking about getting involved in the sport, what kind of questions do you have?

Old guys question: Is it just my area or is competitive shooting exploding right now?

I think I shot my first match around 2013 or so. I don't remember a whole lot of people showing up. Nowadays, we're easily averaging 80 to 100 shooters at a weekend match. Seems like every match has a bunch of new shooters as well.

Is everybody else seeing this across the United States as well?

For those with MOS Glocks

I don't personally own a MOS Glock slide but I know some of you guys do. If you haven't seen it, check out the reviews on the new Osight MOS optic that is direct mount.

They actually put the emitter on top on these and that's why the optic looks so weird. Cool thing is though, you can put pretty much put them in direct sunlight and it doesn't affect the way you see the reticle.

Osight is GTG

When pistol optics got popular, my first optic was a Holosun 507c.

After I retired, I wanted a bigger window because my retirement plan was to start shooting competitively full-time. Didn't really want to pay the money for the 507comp so I figured I would try the Osight C.

As you can see, I now own three of them on separate competition guns and my main competition gun has just reached 20,000 rounds. The other two have somewhere around 5-6k. These things have been Rock solid and the one in the middle has pretty much been beat to death as you can see.

I don't care what you buy and you can spend your money how you want but just wanted to report that for all the hate they got in the beginning, Osight make some great stuff now and it's definitely worth checking out. I'm looking forward to trying one of their closed emitters.

What's causing my Mac 9 to do this?

As you can see in the video, it's barely failing to go into battery even when I load and make ready during a match.

Prior to this, it had 500 rounds through it and was doing this occasionally. It's gotten worse this time has went on.

What are your training goals?

Maybe you've been wanting to go to a training class but you don't have the time or money.

Maybe you been wanting to get into competitive shooting you're just nervous about showing up for your first match.

Maybe you simply want to invest more time into dry fire to get that draw under one second.

For those of you that have training goals to make you better concealed carriers, let's hear them.

MAC 9 DS questions.

Hey guys, I'm completely new to the 2011 platform.

Been shooting Glocks competitively for years but decided to get a MAC 9 DS.

Anybody that's very familiar with this platform let me know because I've got questions I would like to ask. Thank you.

MAC 9 DS (educate me)

Hello there, stepping into the 2011 world. I'm an avid competitive shooter that's been shooting Glocks in competitions for years. Purchased a MAC 9 ds yesterday.

I've already ordered the upgraded optic and plate screws from Xcontrols.

I've read online that these run optimally with a 10 lb recoil spring.

Any insight would be great. This thing is going to see four to five matches a month and I want it running as good as possible.

Also, the magazine released for me is pretty stiff and if somebody could direct me where to order an appropriate tensioned magazine release spring that would be great.

I would also like insight on what magazines run good in these. The guy at the gun store told me MEC-GAR. I've ran about 100 rounds through it so far with the factory magazines which I think are made by checkmate and they have ran pretty flawlessly.

Website issues?

Are they currently updating the website?

I was waiting to look at the results from two recent matches that hadn't been posted to see if my score had moved but as of today I cannot log in.

Competition carry.

Put together this bad boy specifically for EDC competition.

- Grit grips frame

- Brownells slide & ported barrel

- Holosun 507c (green) w/ optic guard

- Defgrips

So far she has two matches under her belt.

Using 147 gr light loaded ammo to diminish all muzzle rise.
