I think Bioshock 1 would benefit greatly from a remake

I recently played Bioshock 1 for the first time and I can’t help but feel slightly disappointed by it. Going into this game, I did know about the plot twist but my issues are more than that. I get that the game came out in 2007, it’s almost 20 years old which is why I think it could benefit from a remake. I found the gameplay to be slightly clunky and the story to be very short.

Looking at gameplay, I thought that the weapon transition could be smoother and also the health and eve resources to be very fleeting. I never felt satisfied whenever I picked up alcohol, cigarettes, candy bars etc. The core gameplay I thought was good but felt very clearly outdated. This is my biggest reason why I would like a remake to see modern gameplay elements be used for the game, particularly the Remake Resident Evil games. This also extends to some elements of the UI, I like the aesthetic of the UI being 1960s theme but sometimes it was annoying trying to read the map.

As for the story, as I said earlier I knew about the plot twist so I was more focused on the presentation. And I found the story to be really short which affected how I viewed the plot. The surprise of "Would you kindly" to Frank Fontaine's reveal was about 2 minutes when its something that I felt should have been longer. Honestly I think that if I did not know about the twist before hand then the reveal would have gone over my head. This also affected how I saw both Andrew Ryan and Atlas as pretty weak characters. They have a lot of potential but we have so few moments of them that I do not feel too strongly about them. I think a remake could let the reveal be more impactful and not feel as rushed

Overall I did enjoy my time playing Bioshock. I did not sing any praises in this post which gives off the idea that I did not like my time so I want to make it clear that I did. I do think this is a good game and can understand the elements that made it so beloved. I like the setting, the worldbuilding, the vibes are immaculate. Those things are timeless even after playing this game for the first time 20 years after its release. But I also think that it has some dated elements and would benefit tremendously with a remake.

Just beat Curse of the Moon, Miriam is so overpowered

Title. Just finished Curse of the Moon, short game took me 4 hours to beat the base game. I enjoyed playing it but I can’t help but talk about how overpowered Miriam is. What made me get this game was because it’s a successor to Castlevania which is a franchise I enjoy, and Miriam being the reincarnation of Richter from Rondo of Blood was very nice. It’s not even the fact that she has a whip for most range, it’s the fact that she has the highest jump that puts her over the edge in my eyes. Very rarely did I think to myself that I want to use Zangetsu or Alfred. I did use a lot of Gebel because his attacks are very useful and because he can farm potions from candles if I don’t want to switch weapons. It also doesn’t help that she has the second highest hp out of everyone in the party besides Zangetsu. Between the whip for range, extra jump height, a slide for tunnels, she is incredibly OP in the game.

The women’s swimsuit are not goon enough

Looking at the men’s swimsuit, they are slutty and I’m all for it. They are wearing speedos and the trunks like Mr. Fantastic are so short that they’re basically speedo. This is not the case for the women. 99% of the women are wearing a one piece swimsuit or close to one piece with the only exception being Cloak and Dagger. I don’t know why NetEase refuses to put more characters in two piece bikinis. F it, I would prefer the women in 2 piece bikinis but I’ll also take some of the men too. Put Wolverine in a bikini. The women have abs, let me see them in costume instead of the boring one piece swimsuits. Savage Land Hela is a better swimsuit skin than the likes of Emma and Black Widow and White Fox.

What do y’all think of Carol’s short haircuts?

New Avengers series by Chip Zdarsky and Captain Marvel is a part of it. And her haircut is something to say the least. What do y’all think of Marvel having Carol’s hair be a short? I don’t read the character so my opinion is based mostly on her appearance and I do not like it, I prefer long hair instead of that

I am saddened by Mega Scolipede

Title. Scolipede is one of my favorite Pokémon’s and I was excited when it was leaked that it was getting a mega evolution. And all that excitement went down the drain when the mega was revealed and it was less than stellar.

I do not like the design of the mega, I don’t like the armored look. The armor reminds me of Escalavier which is a pokemon that isn’t related to it (Escalavier is related to Accelgor), despite it getting armor it doesn’t gain the steel typing, and the stat spread I think is even worse. I appreciate the +50 to its attack stat but the -50 to its speed is crippling. In return they invested a lot to its bulk of 149/99 def and spdef which sounds good until you realize that it’s hp stat is 60. Scolly is deceptively not as bulky as it looks. You might think that a pokemon like Hatterene is known for its bulk despite a 57 base hp stat. But Hatterene has access to Draining Kiss and can hold Leftovers to regenerate hp. Scolipede doesn’t even get Leech Life. It has no way to generating hp for itself as far as I know. I will admit that I have not checked if it gets Leech Life in champions but I will assume it doesn’t.

So to me the only thing that could salvage it was its ability. Speed boost is most likely off the table to the armor design, maybe it could get something to give a pseudo steel typing in reference to its armor, it’s pokedex entry talks about its lethal venom so maybe it might get an ability to bolster poison type attacks, the point is that even though Scolly’s stats are against its favor it can still work depending on the ability. It gets Shell Armor. Shell Armor. That’s so good right? 60/149/99 bulk and you can’t crit it.

I legit think that base Scolipede is better than its mega counterpart. Base Scolly has access to life orb and can take advantage of speed boost. Mega Scolly, even with +1 speed can’t consistently outspeed the high speed tiers or scarf users. All Mega Scolly is good for is tanking 1, maybe 2 hits before dying. And it’s slow so it probably won’t be able to take out a second Pokémon before getting knocked out.

I am saddened by Mega Scolipede, it was a chance for one of my favorite pokemon to be relevant in the higher tier of pokemon both vgc and/or Smogon and I don’t think it will make an impact in either. Do y’all think that my assessment is wrong? Is there a way to salvage Mega Scolly and have it be good?

How would y’all feel if Blade was a tank?

Title. Another balance patch and another Blade buff except the buffs don’t move the needle. I do not play the character myself but I have seen him more in games and the Blade player does not cook. I have yet to have a game where the Blade player took over a lobby or a player swapped to Blade to save the game. I have had opposite games where the Blade player’s KD ratio is lower than his teammates. The point being that I do not think the Blade buffs moved the needle for the character and is still low tier. But what if he was a tank instead of a dps? Increase his hitbox to the size of Captain America, make his hp around 550-600. I think that might solve a lot of problems with the character. The character can’t do damage which is a problem if he’s in the damage role but not as big of a deal if he’s a tank. He already has some survivability with his block and it would be better if he had more hp. I honestly think that it would help the character a lot and encourage people to play the tank role because people always complain about its lack of players. But as I said in the beginning, I don’t play the character so what do y’all think?

How would the game's philosophy change if the game had continued balance changes?

Looking at Smash Ultimate, the prevailing philosophy that I see is that neutral does not matter as much and the ability to kill takes the most priority. And the current tier list reflects that mentality when many of the top characters being capable of KOing extremely early consistently going as far as being touch of death. This mentality has affected the low ranks where I saw a tweet that said that Ganondorf is more viable than Lucina despite being a worse character because Ganon's ability to kill earlier is more valuable than Lucina's consistency and range. It is fair to say that this mentality is heavily influenced by the fact that the game does not get updated anymore. If there were updates where top tiers got nerfed and other characters got buffed, how would the philosophy of ultimate change? If Steve was unable to place blocks on thin air, if Kazuya wasn't Kazuya and same for Luigi etc. etc. Would neutral be a bigger focus in the game or is the mentality that neutral isn't the most important and advantage matters more for knocking out your opponent an inevitable conclusion?

How good/bad is the Black Panther and Storm relationship?

With Marvel Rivals releasing some content about BP and Storm being married (NOTE: some because it’s few and far between when compared to other couples), people are more invested in their relationship in the game and outside of it. But how is the relationship really? I don’t know much about their relationship but I do remember people not being fans of it. I don’t have definitive statements for it but from memory some complaints I remember online were being that Storm stopped appearing in X-men books and was only in Black Panther but BP stories had to change significantly to accommodate Storm and her powers. This led to a worst of both worlds where X-men fans didn’t get the read about the character they like in their own books and Black Panther fans had worse stories to read because they had to incorporate an overpowered character and explain her role in the story. I also remember reading some claims that said the only reason why the marriage happened was for PR because Marvel was marrying their 2 famous black characters and not because it’s a good relationship. And because the relationship had problems, T’Challa annulled the marriage on his own without Ororo being involved. How valid are these criticisms? Were they real and valid or were they bad faith criticisms and/or racist? How was the relationship actually?

Level 9 Kazuya is terrifying

I recently got a Nintendo Switch 2 and my paid game is Smash Ultimate, my only other game is pokemon champions. Playing this game, Kazuya is cracked. Not just by characters in general, I already know that Kazuya is a top 10 character and a touch of death character. But I would expect this from competitive players. I feel like I am playing Riddles when I am going against Level 9 Kazuya. I am genuinely terrified approaching him because any interaction can end my stock. Side b, dead. Down b, dead. How to competitive players not breakdown at the idea of playing against him in tournaments.

Where can I see a calendar for VGC events for Pokemon champions? I recently got a nintendo switch 2 and with it I downloaded champions. Naturally I would like to compete in a tournament but I do not know any events. I know that the first regional was Indianapolis but I do not know any events after that. Is there a calendar somewhere that I can use to find a tournament near me? I looked at the pokemon website and it does not tell me what I want.

My pitch for how Doom Slayer would be in Smash Bros

I recently beat Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal for the first time and it made me want to implement Doomguy into smash bros. Given that I have only played two games, my moveset will be based off the two games.

My idea of Doomguy is someone who is both a zoner and a bruiser at the same time. The modern Doom games often have you use your guns to stagger enemies as you finish them off with a glory kill. This is how I want Doomguy to play with him using his guns to dish out damage but his kill moves being melee attacks.

Jab - a simple combo that utilizes punches and his arm blade

Tilt attacks - variations of Blood Punch. Doom Eternal introduces the Blood Punch which is a super punch that you have to charge and dishes out massive damage to demons, most of the time killing them. In smash, any time you dish out damage, you are charging you Blood Punch which can be used to smash your opponent’s off the stage when fully charged. Up tilt will be an uppercut for a ceiling KO, forward tilt can be a haymaker for a side ko, and Dan tilt is a downward punch for the most damage and knock back but it’s directed downward.

Smash attacks - The Chainsaw. The chainsaw is one of your most important abilities in Doom as it can instantly take out an enemy and the reward is that it refills your ammo. With Doomguy using many guns, he will be having limited ammo that can be refilled with either not using the weapon (he has a weapon swap feature) or by hitting your opponent with smash attacks which is the chainsaw. Each smash attack will be a variation of the Chainsaw going up, down, and forward. While it can be used to KO an opponent, its primary function is to refill your ammo.

Neutral special - Current gun equipped. Doomguy will be equipped with various guns from combat shotgun, heavy cannon, plasma rifle, and rocket launcher. Each gun has their own attributes giving them each their own niche. The Combat Shotgun is a close range weapon that dishes out the most damage up close and expectedly low range. If you want a “get off me tool” then Combat Shotgun is your best bet. The Heavy Cannon is your machine gun that’s the fastest gun but does the least amount of damage. It has very little knockback so it’s not a good kill move but it can rack up damage from afar similar to Fox’s laser gun. The bullets can stagger the opponent depending on the range but the further you are the less effective it will be. The Plasma Rifle is a gun that’s shoots relatively big projectiles at a rapid rate. The gimmick being that it’s slow enough to dodge (Falco’s laser speed) but if it hits the target it can deal a lot of damage with delayed explosions. The Heavy Cannon is better to poke with as it’s faster and harder to dodge but the Plasma Rifle has more payoff with more damage and can knockback your opponent with delayed explosions. The last gun is the Rocket Launcher. This is self-explanatory, it’s a rocket launcher. It’s the slowest gun but also the most damaging. These guns all have limited ammo so you are incentivized to cycle between all of them for whatever situation you are in. Shotgun for close quarters combat, Heavy Cannon for ranged combat, Plasma Rifle also for range but slower and stronger, and Rocket Launcher for most damage and possibly kills but slowest and easiest to dodge. Realistically the Shotgun and Heavy Cannon will be used on stage for damage racking while the Plasma Rifle and Rocket Launcher are there for edgeguarding.

Down special - Weapon swap. As mentioned earlier that you will be swapping weapons this move is how. Your gun order is Shotgun -> Heavy Cannon -> Plasma Rifle -> Rocket Launcher.

Side special - I was debating on what this move would be. My first thought was that it was going to be your gun's secondary ability as in the games all your guns can get upgrades for new abilities. I also thought that it can be your Super Shotgun meathook for horizontal movement. But if I want that then I can use the dash from Doom Eternal. The ability I am settling on is the Super Shotgun Meathook for horizontal aim. Doomguy won't have the best movement and because a large focus on his gameplay is using melee attacks to knocking out your opponent means that you need to approach your opponent which can be difficult if the opponent knows your gameplan. The meathook is there to help you close the distance. It's a long tether grab that grabs the opponent while Doomguy is in the air or on the ground.

Up special - Super Shotgun Meathook. In Doom Eternal, your Super Shotgun has a meathook. This meathook is a grapple that you can shoot at a demon and you will go to the demon. This is basically a tether grab akin to Byleth’s up special.

Neutral air - Frag grenade. In the games you have frag grenades and this is my idea of implementing them. You can only have two frag grenades out at the same time the same way it is in Doom Eternal.

Forward air - Flame Belch. This is an attack introduced in Doom Eternal and its a flamethrower where the enemies being burnt alive drop armor that you can collect. This will be implemented with the enemies who get hit with forward air lower the percent damage on Doomguy. Doomguy healing himself by lowering his percent is him "collecting armor" and boosting his defenses.

Back air - Back arm blade slash. This is a simple attack

Up air - Up arm blade stab. This is also a simple attack.

Down air - Stomp. Doomguy does use his legs to kick demons but its few and far between. This is the chance to utilize leg day and have a spike that he can use.

Grab - Glory Kill. Glory kills are finisher that you use on demons to permanently put them down and grabbing the opponent and throwing them is how the game translates it. Similar to Blood Punch, Glory Kills is one of your primary methods in knocking out your opponents which can only be done in close range with a grab. Doomguy's grabs will have lots of knockback. Glory Kills in the Doom games also give him health and this will be translated by lowering his percent everytime he gets a successful throw. And if he KOs an opponent with his Glory Kill then he heals a larger percent.

Final Smash - The BFG9000. This one is obvious. Doomguy summons his BFG9000 and shoots a super giant green ball projectile that decimates enemies in its wake.

For his speed, I want to him to be decently fast as he is in his home game running around arenas chasing and evading demons. I'm thinking Samus speed or something. I do not know the speed of characters very much lol. His air speed will be a little slower but still decently fast, turns out Doomguy is a gymnast in Doom Eternal with how he can leap high from bars. He will also be a heavyweight character.

This is my pitch for Doomguy in Smash Bros. Doomguy is a zoner/brawler hybrid. He wants to use his various guns to deal damage to his opponents akin to a zoner but does not have a reliable ranged projectile that can KO them. To solve this, Doomguy has very powerful melee attacks in his grabs (Glory Kills) and tilts (Blood Punches). The character might seem mindless but once you play him you realize there is more to his kit than you realize similar to playing his games. You have to strategize which gun you want to use at the given moment and your opponents will be scared to get close once they are in range of KOs.

Doomguy slays the competition.

How good are the modern Melee players compared to the Five Gods

Title. The 5 gods of Melee (Mew2King, Mang0, Dr. Peepee/PPMD, Armada, and Hungrybox) no longer are prevalent in the Melee metagame as most are retired or focused on other things for the most part. Hungrybox is still active and a top player so not all the gods are inactive. That said, with the modern Melee players, how good would they be if they were playing during the prime of the 5 gods or vice versa if the 5 gods would be playing right now? Would people like Zain and Cody Schwab be able to contend with the gods or beat them? Or where the gods that good that they would still be better than today's players?

List of Pokemon that I think deserve an evolution

Title. There are many pokemon that are weak or look incomplete. Some of them are so weak that the only viable buff for them is to give them an evolution. I get that some pokemon don't get major evolutions because they are designed to be beginner pokemon meant to be let the player transition into the game but slowly fade over time but idc its lame. Now an easy way to make this list is to go through a list of pokemon and just write down the ones with less than 500 BST but I tried not to do that. There are some pokemon that have low BST but if you tweaked a stat or two their viability raises significantly. For example, Dodrio has a BST of 470 but if you give it 10 extra attack and speed then it becomes much better and not really need a new evolution. So the list will be a combination of stat spread, current viability, and vibes.

Anyways, here is my list

- Raticate

- Fearow

- Arbok

- Weezing

- Sandslash

- Parasect

- Dewgong

- Seaking

- Jynx (because Electabuzz and Magmar have one but thats a topic for another day)

- So many generation 2 pokemon that I do not want to list them out. The answer is probably yes

- Mightyena

- Hariyama

- Delcatty

- Kecleon

- Luvdisc

- Bibarel

- Kricketune

- Mothim

- Wormadam

- Lumineon

- Watchog

- Swoobat

- Maractus

- Sigilyph

- Druddigon

- Komala

- Spidops

- Veluza

I won't lie when making this list, the final result is a lot shorter than I expected. There are lots of pokemon that could use small buffs to be more viable than need a straight up evolution. And there are more pokemon that I thought had the vibes of a final evolution. But this is my list, feel free to respond with pokemon you agree or disagree with, what pokemon you think deserve and evolution that I did not put. I am willing to answer why I think a pokemon deserves an evolution or not.

Daredevil with his nerfs is still op and needs some more nerfs after playing against him. I used to defend his BS by how he can be countered and I still stand by that DD can be countered, he still has way too many things going for him. The biggest issue being how forgiving his kit is. Before I get to the powerful aspects to his kit, I get the frustration that his playstyle is reduced to spamming Devil’s Throw. But that’s like the only negative playing as him. As for the forgiveness of his kit, there’s no good reason why Devil’s Throw should grant him overhealth. I think we can all agree that Devil’s Throw should be nerfed and in return Devil’s Chain can be buffed slightly. Especially because Devil’s Throw isn’t really an ability you have to aim. You have an ability that doesn’t require aim that grants overhealth and does a decent amount of damage. Also this ability doesn’t require that much aim. You can use Throw while aiming a decent amount away from the target and still get the damage. Yes missing the target does less than damage but 2 ricochet damage is still too much. We can agree that that’s not fair.

Leading to the next ability, Sonic Pursuit. There’s not reason why Sonic Pursuit should grant DD damage reduction at all. Yeah you can argue that it’s damage reduction only against one enemy being the target but in a 1v1 that means a constant 10% damage reduction. No other diver has a damage reducing ability and this wouldn’t be as problematic if the ability wasn’t go forgiving. The dash is auto aim and a range of about 18 meters. You don’t have to look at the opponent you are dashing to reap the rewards.

Daredevil is the only diver who can both consistently generate overhealth and give himself damage reduction with no trade off. No other dive character has that luxury. Spider-Man has no form of overhealth or damage reduction, Iron Fist’s defense comes from his parry which means he isn’t attacking, Magik’s overhealth comes from her attacks which are relatively slow, Black Panther needs to land hits with his dash. Daredevil does not have to worry about that.

I have changed my mind on Daredevil after playing as other characters and going against him, he still needs some tweaks and nerfs.

My proposals:

  1. Remove overhealth generation from Devil’s Throw altogether. It should never have been a thing especially when the ability page doesn’t even say it does that. In return Devil’s chain can be buffed to what it was before it was nerfed

  2. Devil’s Throw shouldn’t be doing as much damage for missing. Right now it’s 2 ricochets for missing and 4 for landing the hit, make it 1 ricochet for missing if not 0 damage.

  3. Remove the damage reduction from Sonic Pursuit altogether. That shouldn’t be a thing, being able to generate overhealth should be the defense of dive, not damage reduction. Diving is about picking the right time to jump the enemy, giving damage reduction jut removes intelligent dives because you can jump into a 1v2 and still come out winning.

  4. Reduce Sonic Pursuit range from 18m to like 12 or 15m. Also the reduce the aiming window for the dash. You have to have your crosshair actually on the target for the dash.

I think these changes would make Daredevil a far healthier character. I know some people will get mad that their main is being criticized and will deflect and talk about other OP characters like the support roster and Phoenix. Yes those characters are also OP and need to be addressed but that’s not what’s being talked about here. You should be able to acknowledge that there are other overpowered characters in the game in addition to Daredevil. I also suspect people will talk about how Daredevil can be countered by characters like the Thing and Peni and Emma. And my response, almost every character can be countered, even Phoenix. Just because a character can be countered doesn’t mean that they are completely fair and balanced. I have changed my stance on DD. I will still play him but I will also say that he’s still too strong. If I’m not playing him then I’m banning him.

I made a post some time ago talking about my feelings about the first Ace Attorney game. While I did like some elements, the cross examination and the recurring characters, I did not like the investigations. I found the investigations to be very un-interactive and particularly in Case 3, was dragged out for too long. Overall looking at the first game, it is hard, extremely hard carried by Case 4. Even Case 5, I did enjoy how they changed the investigation with how you can interact with the evidence and the environment with the bottle and fingerprint. I did not like how it was very long and I was not invested in the story as much as I was with Case 4. Overall I did not have the best time with the first Ace Attorney game and the only reason why I would rate it a 7/10 is because Case 4 I found to be that good.

Come Ace Attorney 2 and the changes they made have made me love this game so far. I will admit that I might be jumping the shark when talking about this game, I just completed Case 2 so I still have plenty of game left to change my opinion but so far I have loved both cases. As I said earlier, my problem with the first Ace Attorney game was the investigations and AA2, the addition of the Magatama changes the investigations entirely. My favorite aspect of the games are the cross examinations, reading a person's story and trying to find the contradiction and the ensuing chaos that arrives. And the addition of the Magatama brings the cross examinations to the investigations and makes it so, so much better. What I love about the Magatama is how it changes how I view the investigations. In the first game, I found the investigations boring in the sense that I am simply looking for clues and clicking buttons knowing that I will eventually find something but I never really cared for how they will be involved in the case. But with the Magatama, I am not just looking for clues to help me with the case but also evidence that can help me break the locks of the lying witness. I am now more invested in the investigations because I am now thinking how I can use the evidence I obtain for either the case or for the Magatama or maybe both.

Now the Magatama is the biggest upgrade this game because how it brings the cross examinations from the courtrooms into the investigations. I also like how they changed the health bar. In the first game, the health bar was kind of whatever because it resets every time you enter the courtroom so it never felt like there were stakes throughout the game. But this changes in Justice For All because the health bar carries over from investigations to courtrooms to investigations. And the health bar does matter in investigations because it is at stake during the Magatama cross examinations. I also like how it isn't overbearing because solving a lock heals your health bar. I like how the health bar makes me lock in harder during examinations because I know it won't easily reset.

The last thing I want to talk about is really small but a difference that does matter and that is the character profiles. In this game, there are many times that instead of the answer to the contradiction isn't a piece of evidence but actually a character profile. I like how it adds another dimension to how I solve puzzles sometimes the answer to a question is not a something but instead a someone. I do not recall this happening in the first game.

I am thoroughly enjoying Justice For All and these changes have made a massive difference in the experience that the first game did not have. The investigations are a lot more engaging and the puzzles are a lot more dynamic then they ever were in the first game

What did they change about Blade that makes him so bad or just not played in higher levels?
