i’m not entirely new to this challenge, i am 40 years into my medieval challenge. however, i am burnt out from it. the plague is coming and my sims are not producing heirs. also, i want to do more building and… peasant houses are not the most beautiful 😭 so i’ve decided to do an upper class save file starting in the 1750s.

however, a few months ago i began the 1890s challenge and IT IS SO BORING! i couldn’t bring myself to finish a single year. in my medieval save file i literally have so many households in 4 different countries. i don’t know how to start from nothing. perhaps i need to start with gen 0 ?

also i have no idea how to play with rich sims. they would need maids, wet nurses, cooks, etc. we all know how useless the nannies are in the sims 4. do i just make the nursery into a rental property and let the kids live with some sims that would be governesses and nurses 😭😭 if we have to be serious the rich people would barely see their kids anyway. i don’t want to be in the presence of infants too

hi, i’ve been wanting to get into book binding for a while. i’m thinking about binding macbeth by shakespeare. anyway, i don’t really have any experience at all. i don’t really know what kind of paper i’m meant to use, etc. any tips would be appreciated.

Obviously, classical literature is dominated by male authors, and I fear this often leads to people only reading books written by men, or even lacking the ability to name a single female author. Please share some of your favourite women of letters to discuss their long-lasting legacies and also to widen someone else’s reading horizons! xx

sorry, don’t know if this is allowed. i am extremely desperate to find her diaries and buy them, but i truly cannot find a single store that sells them! same thing with her letters with vita. i’m trying to find them secondhand, but it’s a hard search and the ones i’ve found are ridiculously expensive. i’m going to ireland in april, so perhaps i have a higher chance of stumbling upon them in a thrift shop, but is it worth the wait? and it’s also quite a low chance regardless. if you own her diaries or the letters of vita to virginia PLEASE where did you find them 😭😭

Hi, odd request. Does anyone have a document or something of all the French words/phrases or dialogues translated into English from Villette by Charlotte Brontë? I was stupid enough to buy my copy without checking if translations were included. I very much do not want to go on Google Translate every few seconds whilst reading, but I also do not want to buy a whole new copy.

my sim Ethne O’Ronan was born to Niall O’Ronan and Agnes O’Ronan. She is Niall’s only surviving daughter, he has 4 surviving sons at the moment. It is 1340 and his second son Beathan is getting married either this year or next year, his eldest Eoran works a sailor with his uncle Robin Fletcher to make extra money for the family. Niall also has two other sons, but they’re from his third and current wife and still quite young. Anyway, Ethne is Agnes’ only surviving child. This is where things get complicated.

Agnes O’Ronan (née Emberly) was the daughter of a middle class blacksmith. She was born and raised in London, though her family often travelled to sell their goods. She got pregnant out of wedlock twice, and her father basically gave her to the care of Niall, as he had heard he was a widow with five(?) young children. Niall is a kind guy, he had a fine understanding of english as his stepmother was english. Agnes and Niall never had a good marriage. He deeply cared for her, but she was always miserable. After 4 pregnancies, he let her rest. (horrible wording sorry) Then his half-sister Dorothy began talking about her wishes to move to England. Agnes volunteered to help her reach London safely, and so the two went on. Little did Niall know his wife and half sister had a secret affair… In late 1330 Dorothy sent a letter, writing about an unfortunate incident which led to Agnes’ death.

Agnes is not actually dead, dont worry guys. Anyway, when Ethne aged up to a teen she had a randomised royalty trait which i personally tied to her wanting to raise herself up in class, or at least not work on a farm. However with the plague coming soon…stuff get complicated. She has rolled to marry and have 8 pregnancies. I’ve came up with four storyline options:

1. Have her move to England as a maid at 17 (1343) and have her have an affair with her master, resulting in 1-3 pregnancies. if they survive the plague, they will marry.

Downsides: that would leave us with very little children and after the plague potentially none.

2. Have her move to England as a maid at 17, marry another servant, have 4-5 pregnancies, one may be not her husband’s. if she survives the plague but her husband does not, she will marry the lord and have the rest of her baby tries with him.

3. Have her marry at 16/17 a local irishman, then move together to England, work as a maid, have 4-5 pregnancies. if her husband dies of the plague but she survives, she can marry the lord.

4. i forgot the forth one so alternatively you can suggest me one.

ALSO would Niall allow her to go to england?? i mean she looks SO much like her mother and Agnes allegedly died by going to England. I suppose if she was already married he wouldnt really have a say in it, or he would be maybe more likely to agree if she is with her eldest brother Eoran and uncle who like I said is a sailor. Also her uncle is dorothy’s husband so this story is indeed very complicated… Anyway, I was planning she would work in Kent but her brother’s ship doesnt have a stop in kent. in spring they stop in chester, bristol and london. in summer it stops in plymouth. if she travels by sea in summer it adds another deadly risk because they first would pass by france and there is major conflict going on as we are all aware and since i love making my game complicated i have to roll the dice if they’ll be captured by pirates and if yes i believe atm it will be resulting in immediate death. OK PLS HELP ME DECIDEE i suppose if she stops in london she will just get a carriage to kent.

i personally have little to no masking skills, i dont know how to do it and despite trying (?) or wanting, i just cant. i know how i’m meant to act but i find it impossible to actually mask my traits whenever im in a social situation/ in public. i stim a lot, i dont hold eye contact, i dont perform? i just am? i struggle a lot to explain it. i dont know if i have enough self awareness to know how i appear to others. i think they can possibly tell im autistic or that i have something because last time i went outside i was called the r word by a group of strangers. so.

but i dont really feel very good despite not masking. it is very hard and physically painful for me to exist in public the way i am. i am in constant state of overstimulation so i just do my best to prevent a meltdown or to regulate myself, i dont have the space to be overly aware of my autistic traits and do my best to mask them. its very hard for me, i hope this makes sense.

im sure someone else would be better at explaining it because i am really struggling to find the words.

so for those who are not aware vera is a slavic name meaning faith. i’ve personally known multiple veras around vera cain’s age. i dont know how common this name is in america but is it possible she has slavic ancestry??? maybe her parents or grandparents immigrated after ww2? this is a question specifically in relation to ethel cain the character, not hayden

Okay, so I’ve been speaking English since I was about four, and I am now fifteen. That’s quite a large chunk of my life, in which I hope I’ve achieved proficiency.

I am going to take a Cambridge exam towards the end of high school. I’d love to know my level now, but they’re expensive and my certificate may not be considered valid by certain universities if it’s taken too early. Anyway, I do think in English. I would say I unfortunately use it more often than my native language, and I don’t remember ever having to translate things in my head.

I also read a lot, nearly exclusively in English. I love classics; my favourite author is Virginia Woolf. I do find her books a bit more challenging and demanding of more attention than those of Jane Austen and the Brontë sisters, for example. But surely if I can read, comprehend, and analyse the work of such highly intelligent people, I must have a high or sufficient level of English. At least I hope so.

I’m not a therapist and I deeply apologize if this type of question is not allowed here. I’ve just really been wondering if the choice of method matters in how seriously someone’s mental health is taken into account when they’ve survived a suicide attempt. Excuse my wording. I believe all suicide methods are extremely dangerous and the struggles of the person are valid, etc. I’m not encouraging anything or saying one is lesser than the other.

I just feel like this is indeed an awkward question. I’m just going to give a quick example. TriggerWarning.

I tried to kill myself by overdose a year ago. I got rushed to the ER, received medical care and spent four days in the ICU. On the third day I got a 30 minute visit from a psychologist.

A few months ago, a family member of mine had to go to the ER to get stitches due to a self inflicted injury (without suicidal intent) and a staff member from the psych ward had a talk with them.

I’m not comparing the two. I just can’t help but wonder why was it delayed so long for me and would it have been so late if my choice of method was different. Mind you, she came in the evening. I could have been discharged by then, had a doctor not wanted to keep me in an extra day as I was refusing food.

this always boils down to masking and enforced social roles. i don’t think there is a difference in very young children, i think the reaction or perception is just vastly different.

for example if a boy is having a sensory meltdown, people around him will likely acknowledge it as a sensory meltdown and a sign of autism. but if it’s a girl, it’s more likely for her to be called overdramatic and over sensitive.

if a boy is not showing interest in playing with his peers, that will be seen as concerning and a potential sign of autism. but in girls it’s “she’s just shy”

if a boy has rigid routines that may again be seen as a potential sign of autism. but girls are just called “a little perfectionist”

if a boy keeps stimming, that will be seen as a sign of autism. if a girl is doing the same, she could be punished for being unladylike.

i have so many examples to give, but we can see that young children do not exhibit different behaviors or traits. however, when child (regardless of gender) keeps being punished, ridiculed or abused for their behaviour, they will eventually start to mask to keep themselves safe. unfortunately, these children just often happen to be girls due to the examples above.

i do not understand how autistic men will claim women have it easier because no one can tell they’re autistic. that’s a blatant lie, and autistic women are not born with a built in masking system. many cannot even mask! i personally never learned how to properly mask, despite trying very hard. masking in general is highly detrimental. no one should be forced to mask for their survival or wellbeing. not to mention how many autistic women are misdiagnosed as borderline and therefore face so much medical neglect which is a severe issue on its own.

I originally wanted to ask this question to eastern europeans only as I’ve been observing people’s reactions to someone saying they’re a communist, etc. However, I do not believe there is a specific subreddit dedicated to eastern europe, but I suppose it would be interesting to see how leftism is perceived in the east vs west, noting historical events that have shaped this.

I’m from Bulgarian and I believe people on average are more left-leaning, however they would never ever ever call themselves ‘left-leaning’. I am talking about the average person, btw. Also, people born before the mid 70s (aka who worked before the fall of the eastern bloc) do tend to have more civil conversations on this topic + they have genuine life experiences in comparison to someone who was a child or not even born. Many of them will speak well of communism if you talk with them for more than ten minutes on the subject.

People born after that time period are much more hostile. My mother was 9 when our country switched to capitalism. Both her parents struggled to find stable jobs and they could not afford groceries, etc. Despite that, she gets so mad at me for claiming that no matter the educational level of someone, they should always be paid a liveable wage and not have to worry about their survival. Anytime I bring up how it’s evil to profit off basic necessities, she just says “yes, but that’s how the world works.”

Obviously, in Eastern Europe it is sort of viewed as a taboo topic. Not all countries had the same experience. Anyway, I’d love to hear how people from different countries view it and your observations on how the people around you view both capitalism and communism. I hope I was neutral enough, I am posting this from a general place of curiosity.
