What are some cheap non ghost hunting equipment that works?

I’m trying to build a ghost hunting kit without paying the “ghost hunting” markup on everything.
What are some inexpensive pieces of equipment that weren’t specifically made for paranormal investigations but work just as well?
For example:
• A regular radio that can be modified or used as a spirit box.
• Motion sensors meant for home security that work well as trigger devices.
• Temperature sensors, IR devices, or other tools that investigators commonly repurpose.
I’m less interested in branded paranormal gear and more interested in DIY alternatives or equipment from other hobbies/industries that can be used the same way. If you’ve found something that works well and saves money, I’d love to hear your recommendations.

Finally got hooks!

As you may or may not know, homegoods/marshalls/tjmaxx came out with these sun and moon ornaments back in December of 2025 and I quickly stanched up a box! I had seen a TikTok celestial creator add these to their shelf and I thought it was so fascinating! With the time I finally had, I went to Walmart and got some hooks so that I finally add these guys to shelf! This corner isn’t as jaw dropping as the creators, BUT I think this looks amazing with the limited space I have ☺️🥺
Thinking about repainting this wall too 🤔

My facebooks finds this week!

Just picked up this celestial thermometer + clock! I was on the hunt for this when I saw it on TikTok a while ago but Google wasn’t very helpful in telling me how to find it. Patience genuinely does pay off though! That even goes for the blanket too! Someone snatched up this blanket for $15 that was in my area but a little while later another one showed up and of course I bought it IMMEDIATELY!!! This was a good week

Lava Lite Wizard Lamp question

I recently picked up this genuine Lava brand lamp secondhand. We had to replace the power cord before I could even test it, but while I was looking it over, I remember thinking the wax didn’t look quite right. It looked different from my other lamps, and I had a feeling it wasn’t going to behave normally.
For context, this is my 4th vintage lava lamp, and I’ve owned 7 lava lamps over the years, so I’m pretty familiar with how the wax is supposed to look and flow. Of course, I could be wrong, which is why I’m asking for opinions.
The lamp has the correct 40W bulb, and the coil is sitting flat on the bottom. There’s a thick coating of wax that stays on the coil and doesn’t seem to melt or flow off. After about 2 hours of running, almost all of the wax floats to the top of the globe and stays there instead of cycling back down.
The cold wax also has a porous, grainy appearance compared to my other lamps, which is what caught my attention from the start.
Has anyone seen this before? Does this look like wax that’s deteriorated from age or improper storage, or is there a chance it’ll improve after a few complete heat and cool cycles?
I’ve attached photos of the lamp both cold and after warming up.

Just scored the new Halloween decor at Michael’s

Michaels just came out with their new Halloween line and it’s celestial themed! They have some really good products this year.

I will post a video on my TikTok (themoonwisp) with pricing of some of the items if anyone is interested in knowing this information. Not all Michael’s stores have this out yet. I had to drive an hour to one of the Michael’s get this mirror.

This is why we thrift!

I lost my chance to buy this same set on mercari maybe a little over a month ago. They were listed at about $25-$30 (don’t quote me on that), but I ended up finding them today at my thrift store! This specific store doesn’t usually have celestial items but today I scored BIG in my opinion☺️

Finally styled my cabinet 🌙!

Found this beauty on facebook marketplace and after sitting in my car over the weekend I finally was able to take it in the house and style it! And yes, yes this thing is taller than me lol!

I changed my rotors and brakes but my car is still shuddering when I stop, why?

My car has started doing a noticeable jerking/shuddering motion when I’m slowing down and coming to a stop. It feels almost like a pulsing sensation through the vehicle while braking. The brake pedal doesn’t feel completely smooth, and the issue is most noticeable during moderate to hard braking. Not to mention the front left driver side rotor/brake is STILL squeaking, which was another reason why I had them replaced. Anyone else experience this and could possibly tell me what’s wrong?

I just received an orchid, what do I do?

I just got an orchid and have no idea what to do with it. I want to say that I would’ve posted this in the beginner question forum but literally no one answers people who genuinely need help.

I normally take care of succulents because they’re a lot more hardy, so I know a thing or two about plants from experience. But I usually avoid flowers and leafy plants because they’ve always been difficult for me to keep alive, mostly because of the environment in my room. I can’t move the orchid anywhere else in the house since this isn’t my house, so my room is the only option.

I keep my room pretty cold for health reasons, usually around 68°F to 70°F. Because of that, plus hearing almost daily about how difficult orchids are to care for, I would’ve never gone out of my way to buy one myself.

From what I can tell, it’s already planted in orchid bark. It’s also still inside the plastic sleeve it came in, and honestly I’m nervous to remove it because it’s been doing surprisingly well in there so far. The top of the plastic is open, though. I know I probably can’t leave it in there forever.

Another issue is that our drinking water quality hasn’t been great lately according to local water quality maps. I was told the orchid was watered about 6 days ago.

Please give me any advice you can. I really don’t want to accidentally kill this thing. She’s a very beautiful Moth Orchid.

Just copped my 3rd Clay Art Celestial Mask!

I’m always searching eBay for celestial decor, and I came across this smiling sun mask by Clay Art that I had no idea even existed until I saw the listing. I bought it immediately and it finally arrived today!

This is now my third Clay Art mask. I first collected the Wizard mask, then the moon mask, and now this beautiful sun. I love discovering pieces I never knew were out there. Now I’m wondering how many more exist that I haven’t seen yet!

And we can’t forget my music box wizard by Marjorie Sarnat! I drove 6 hours in all for that mask from a Facebook find and it was definitely worth it! Don’t tell the others, but he’s my favorite lol.

The tea light holder I cried over

A while back, I made a post upset over not being able to get this specific candle holder. It had slipped through my grasp about three different times, and at the time, a lot of really horrible things were happening in my life. I know it probably sounded silly to some people, but I just wanted something comforting. It was something I had been searching for for months, and every chance I had to buy one just never worked out.

Recently, I was finally able to get one on Mercari from an incredibly kind reseller who even included a few extra gifts for me, including the little electric tealight candle in the photo. My hands were shaking and my eyes were tearing up just opening the package! It meant a lot more to me than just a candle holder 🥹!

Got this frame from a friend!

I recently did a package swap with a friend recently and she included one of the coolest little sought after frames! I was finally able to style it today

What is my luck today!?

I was just getting ready to leave the thrift store until my boyfriend showed up with THIS in his hands!!! Only $10!

u/Miiluvsss — 1 month ago

I scored all of this for $15

Found this listing on Facebook last night and immediately hopped on it!! I’ve learned very quickly when starting this new hobby is to always wait for a greater price, no matter what. The mirror alone is always being sold for $100 or even more! Gosh I love when sellers aren’t money hungry!

Concerning experience with a Mercari seller

Just wanted to share my experience with a Mercari seller so others can be cautious.

I purchased a 0.3 oz bottle of Xtra Milk perfume for $18 after my offer was accepted. The seller marked the item as shipped the next day and provided a tracking number, but when I entered it into the USPS website, it initially came back as invalid.

I waited about 3 days before contacting Mercari because I wanted to give the tracking time to update. During that time, I also tried reaching out to the seller multiple times but received no explanation.

Mercari later confirmed that the tracking number was invalid and informed the seller they needed to provide a valid one by May 19. On May 17, the seller uploaded a second tracking number, but that one was also invalid. The seller continued saying they would ship the item out “that day,” but there were still no valid tracking updates or communication resolving the issue.

Eventually, one of the tracking numbers updated, but USPS then marked the package as using counterfeit postage, which removed the tracking history entirely.

On May 19, Mercari cancelled the order themselves due to the lack of valid tracking. Unfortunately, because the order was cancelled, I wasn’t able to leave a review to warn others.

I obviously can’t say for certain whether this was intentional, but I wanted to share my experience because I noticed the seller has many listings marked as sold while only a small portion appear to have completed reviews. At the time of writing this, the seller only sells Dedcool perfumes and has 39 sold listings within the past month, but only 7 reviews visible on their profile.

Just be careful and document everything if you purchase from them.

How do I know if I won’t the bracelet or not?

I have notifications on for everything. Last week I at lost got an email and app notification saying “better luck next time”. I didn’t receive any notification this time and neither did my partner. Not through the app, SMS or email.
