Is there a way to be better at reading faster ? About to start some big books and I fear it would take me forever to finish them

I love reading but there is something that sometimes does hold me back and it's not reading fast enough.

Reading 15 pages is more time consuming for me because I tend to really decipher the meaning behind each word and I can't read without having to take notes. I really want to remember every book I read so if in the future I want to know the plot and what I found interesting about it I would know but it's as I said pretty time consuming.

Are some people in the same state as I am ? What do you do to read faster ?

Looking for a sailor's book I read as a child

I have been looking for a book I read when I was about 11 years old, probably sometime between 2009 and 2012.

What I remember:

\- It was a very large book, probably 400 to 500 pages, maybe even more. It was tall and wide rather than a paperback format.

\- The book was very beautiful and high-quality: the cover was smooth and glossy, as if it had been varnished.

\- The inside paper was white, smooth and beautiful, and looking back, although the book itself seemed very beautiful because it had been printed recently, the story was probably much older and likely dated from the 19th or 20th century.

\- The cover was mainly brown, dark brown or ochre.

\- There was a colour illustration on the cover showing a boat, and I think there was a sailor or a man working on board.

\- Inside, there were fairly realistic colour illustrations, but the book was mostly made up of text.

The story:

\- It was a maritime adventure novel or narrative.

\- The story took place mainly at sea, aboard a boat.

\- I believe the main character or narrator was an adult man, definitely not a teenager.

\- There was probably a crew, and many scenes were related to the everyday life of sailors.

\- The boat may have been a fishing boat, an exploration vessel, or another type of ship, but I am no longer certain about this.

\- The atmosphere seemed rather serious and perhaps quite sad or melancholic, although my memory may be playing tricks on me on this point.

\- To me, the story felt like a ship's log, or at least it was told as though a sailor were writing about his experiences.

*And there is one very particular detail that I will never forget:*

The book had a very distinctive layout feature. At the top of the pages, separated from the main text and printed in small type or in the same size as the body text, there was an indication resembling a time, for example: "03'05"". The indication changed constantly throughout the pages.

At the time, I didn't understand what these numbers meant. Looking back, I think they may have referred to the time at which the sailor was writing in his journal, but I am not sure.

Books that give me a similar feeling:

\- The Sea-Wolf by Jack London

\- The Survivors of the Chancellor by Jules Verne

\- The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket by Edgar Allan Poe

\- A Captain at Fifteen by Jules Verne

I am certain it was not Moby-Dick, although the maritime atmosphere may have been somewhat similar.

How do you organize your notes ? Do you create a YAML block for each one of your notes ?

I'd like my notes to be easier to recognize without having to read for a long time before grasping the main idea behind them and organize them better so I wanted to know if YAML blocks was something you used a lot or maybe any other thing ?

I'd like to create bases too and apparently it works better with YAML format so I was curious to know ? Sorry if I sound dumb.

Is sex more important than love for men ?

I'm (24) looking for love and I have never been in my life interested in ONS or light relationships with no strings attached (sex friends ...).

I've never thought about getting in a relationship until these past few days. I'm starting to grow older and I'd love to get into a nice relationship with a good person. As I am a rather shy person, I find dating apps better for me. It may or may not be the best solution I don't know.

I managed to match with a few men here and there and despite me specifying that I want a serious relationship, they either tell me they don't know what they want when I ask or, if not the case, that they are only looking for hookups.

So that's why I wanted to know, is sex above love for men ?

My parents (61M, 51F) hate each other and it's making our lives hard. Is divorce the only thing to do ?

I (24F) thought that with time everything would improve and get better but I was so wrong.

My parents hate each other and that's not something new. they've been hating on each other for years now. And that's because my dad is terrible. He's disrespectful to my mother, loves drama and is violent.

My mother's mistake has been marrying him cause she's way out of his league. She's not perfect but she's not the one living for drama and being violent. All she has been doing was raising us (my sister 22F and my little brother 13M who is growing to be an abhorrent person just like his dad), caring for us and helping us become better people.

Idk how tf she did enduring all of it for 25 years. She left her country and family to join my father in his country and has been treated like shit by my father's family all this time.

She talked to me today about considering divorce and tbh I can only agree with her, she deserves some peace after all these years of constant fighting and hate. The issue is that she doesn't want to leave my little brother alone (we all live together) to our dad because she fears that he'll turn up to be a useless failure and a piece of shit.

What can we do ?

Velocity is amazing !

Just an appreciation post. I've always been struggling with keeping a theme as I always change and rotate but velocity feels so good. It's minimalist but pretty and refined, it makes the experience so satisfying and you can tweak it a bit to your Liking. So thanks to the creator you did an amazing job !

I'm curious about the theme you use

I've been switching between minimal and prism which I'm currently using. What about you ?

Do I still have a chance to get married or is it starting to be a bit late ?

I (24F) am still not married and it wasn't something that really crossed my mind until recently tbh.

At 24 yo I'm not that young anymore and I'm scared of not being able to find a partner because men tend to like young girls. As I said It was never a goal for me until recently when I thought about my future a bit more and more precisely about what I want.

I was unlucky in life as I lost 3 years in college because I had bad health issues that prevented me from graduating at the proper age. I'm still in college now, I have 2 years left but this lack of luck still haunts me.

So yeah I just wanted to know if there was people maybe in my situation or that relate to what I say in one way or another.

Always was curious about her ID. She somewhat looks tiny and is pretty short but not extremely short either.
