Betis signing Parrott?

I'm not a Betis fan, I do like the club though, but as an Irishman, I'm very excited at the idea of Troy parrott signing for Betis. I've only seen these rumours on Irish sport pages so I've come here to ask if Betis fans are also hearing these rumours? Also, what would your opinion be on this signing.

What did you do after failing 1st year of college?

I'm in a bad way with college at the moment. I have 2 repeat exams to do, and I just cannot get the content into my brain, it's like another language. It's statistics. Can't seem to understand even the most basic of concepts. Obviously I'm trying my best, but I know there's a chance I fail again.

Anyway, the point of this post, what do people do after failing 1st year? Especially people who aren't overly happy in the course anyway?

The course I'm in was 7th on my cao. I only accepted because I couldn't imagine myself not going to college. Throughout the year I debated dropping out and reapplying to the cao, trying to switch course at the end, and other things, but then I found a masters in the original subject that I had on my cao, and had my heart set on, which I could get into with a degree from my current course, so i decided to stay at it. Now, considering the possibility of failing again, and having to repeat this year, I couldn't imagine anything worse. Like I said, I couldn't imagine myself not going to college. Do people take the year out and apply through the cao again with lc results? What do people actually do in this type of situation?

Failing repeats

Is there a 3rd chance to repeat an exam? Or if you fail your repeat you repeat the year or something?

I thought I remember being told u can do an exam up to 4 times, but thinking about it that seems very generous and unrealistic.

What happens if u fail a repeat?

Advice from LC 2025

I debated whether I should post this or not, but if it helps even one person then I'm glad.

This time last year I was hoping for one of my top two courses, both over 550 points. I didn't want anything but either of them. I only had other courses because putting only two would have been completely idiotic. I opened my results and got 507. I sat in my kitchen and cried for hours. I didn't even know if I'd be offered anything else from my cao, and the possibility of one of my top two was gone. I was miserable. It truly felt like the end of the world. I ended up getting offered my 7th choice. I wasn't overly happy, but I was relieved that I had actually been offered something. The first few months of the course were not great. I really didn't see the point in doing a course for a degree I didn't even want. My grades were shit. I didn't give a flying fuck. I wanted to drop out. Around February I discovered that if I get this degree, I can actually move on and maybe someday do a masters in a course extremely similar to what I originally wanted. Since then I've improved quite a bit. My grades are still no where near as good as they could be. I do have to repeat two exams, and I did just scrape a pass in other modules, but I'm (hopefully) going into second year with a lot more motivation and desire to do well. I have also discovered that som topics that I could never have imagined myself enjoying, are actually very interesting.

There is always another way. You can get what you want. Your path might be longer than others, but who actually cares.

I guess the point of this post is to show that despite the tremendous disappointment I felt this time last year, the world didn't end and I'm still here. You will find your footing, even if it takes some time.

My intention really is not to scare anyone and I apologise if I have. I just think I would have liked to hear something like this a year ago.

Best of luck to absolutely everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PCOS?

Im beginning to think I have PCOS. A few months ago I learned what it was, and thought there was a possibility I could have it. I never did anything about it. It was just a thought in the back of my mind. Last month, when I logged my period on Flo, it came up with this warning kind of notification. It basically said that my cycle lengths are concerning, and it directly mentioned the loss of PCOS. My period is very irregular, but it always has been. I got it at 11, and I'm 19 now. Some of my cycles from the past year are 31 days, 26 days, 42 days, 18 days. Very irregular.

I also learned that PCOS can cause a more than normal amount of body hair. My arms have always been a bit on the hairier side, but recently I've noticed it even more. I have a mustache, that is actually black hairs, as well as a unibrow. Also the peach fuzz on my face. My leg hair grows extremely fast. I have always thought it's just my genetics. I have really long nice dark brown hair.

When I was 17 I went through a phase of trying to lose weight. I went from around 75kg to 60kg, but I was eating a let less calories than I should have been. After around 4 months, I couldn't lose anymore. I had seen something that said if you're trying to lose weight, but are eating too little, you'll reach a point where you won't lose any more weight, so I thought it was because of that. But maybe it was something more. I gave up and gained all the weight back quite quickly. I'm now around 85kg again. I have tried a few times to lose weight again, but I just find it impossible. But to be fair, I can't say I've tried everything.

There are a few other things that align with PCOS symptoms, but could just be nothing. I used to get quite bad acne around my chin all the time, but especially near my period. I started using a benzoyl peroxide, which has massively helped. I do still get a spot or two just before my period.

Again, I'm not wanting for someone to tell me yes you have it, or no you don't. I'm just looking to see if anyone else has experienced the same things, and if I should start to actually take this seriously instead of just putting it in the back of my mind. Thank you.

Addicting book suggestions

Like the title says, I need an addicting book. I am really trying to get back into reading. As a kid I read a lot, you know just the common kids books, not really any specific genre other than fiction. I stopped reading when I was around 9/10. Last year I tried to get back into it, I read the housemaid and another thriller, and loved both of them, but didn't end up thinking about reading again. I tried in January, but I read 2 books and again kind of forgot. I tried to read a book while I was on holiday this year, and I was liking it, but I just didn't really get through it. There was too many distractions around me. Now I'm looking to try again. I don't think I'll continue with that book as I can't really remeber too much, so I'm looking for some recommendations.

I mainly keep to thrillers, I enjoy them. But maybe I need a different genre. I really liked the housemaid and don't let her stay. The dead of winter was alright and the girl on the train was okay. Pretty girls is the one I don't think I'll finish. I feel like I really need something fast paced, and addictive.

As for other genres, I wouldn't be open to a lot. Definitely nothing sci fi, historical, etc. I think maybe I'd consider romance, but I feel like I'd be really picky if it came to a romantic book. I haven't watched a lot of romance movies, but I do love quite a few relationships in some shows.

I really don't know what else to say. I know it's probably impossible but if anyone has any recommendations, I'd be very appreciative. Thank you.

How can I get back to my best?

I used to be so academic. I'd have a test to study for, I'd spend an hour and be done, get 100%. Obviously that was school, so it was easier. I'm in university now, and I'm really struggling. Towards the end of my time in school, I was extremely unmotivated and exhausted, which led me to not get the results I had hoped for, and in turn did not get one of my top universities. I came to terms with that, and decided to focus on the degree I landed in. I found that as soon as I sat down to study for my first university exam, I couldn't. I couldn't focus, kept going on my phone, couldn't retain any information, would spend hours and get nothing. And I was like that for all of my first year. I barely scraped by most of my modules. I did fail 2, for which I have to repeat exams in a few weeks. I've now spent 2 days saying "I'll start today", and I am still yet to start. I think about studying, and it seems simple. It's just as soon as I sit down to do it, I can't. The phone is definitely an issue, but even if I leave it in another room I'll end up staring at the wall or out the window instead of actually studying. Any advice, tips or comments are welcome and appreciated.

What this??

Someone referred me to this sub. This keeps on happening to my finger. I'm not too sure how to explain it. At first it's almost like the top layer of skin will go dead, and that I can't really feel the texture or material of things (but I can still feel, hope that makes sense), then a few days later it will start to peel, and then it will keep going until it looks like the pictures. It's only ever on this finger. It comes and goes. This is probably the 4th time this year.

I have considered a nail allergy to BIAB, but I really don't think that's it as like I said it comes and goes, and is only ever on this particular finger. Also, it doesn't happen straight after a new set of nails. I haven't noticed any pattern with the timing or anything.

So what the f is this????????? How do I fix it?

Iced latte

How are we making our iced lattes? Before I just used instant coffee and a manual frother for my milk. I've seen videos of people and no one really seems to be frothing their milk with the machine? Are you not supposed to for an iced latte? Someone please explain. I'm new to making coffee and not fully sure what to do. Thanks.

AirPods 4 with NC or AirPods Pro 3?

I currently have AirPods 3, had them maybe 2/3 years but they've gone terrible. The sound is crap and it's doing that thing where the people around me can hear the sound better than I can. I'm going to buy new ones. I'm not someone who uses them a lot. I use them to watch a show when I blowdry my hair, when I'm using my phone in public and when I'm on holiday. So I don't really care for all the details. However I did want the pros because they look more comfortable, and sometimes my ears can be sore after having them in for a long while, but I'm not sure that's worth nearly the extra €100. I can get the 4s for €130, 4s with nc for €180, or the pros for €250. What do u recommend?

Training (IRL)

I started working last week, I just had my fifth shift and despite the email I received last week with my training schedule, I have only been trained in the kitchen so far. My training schedule said kitchen (main menu assembly) for last week, and then drinks and order taking for this week. All I've done is assemble shit and cook chicken. Am I supposed to say something?? I really do not enjoy the kitchen, they keep leaving me by myself and I cannot keep up with the orders. Do I do nothing and hope they teach me soon? Did this happen to anyone else?

Phibsborough parking

Anyone know of anywhere I can park in phibsborough? Near Tesco and boots. I'll need it to be open until 12am at least. There seems to be a car park on top of that Tesco but I'm not sure if it's private or open to the public. Thanks.

First day at first job

I had my first day of my first job yesterday and I'm quite dreading going back. It was in a very well known fast food place. When I first went in I went up to a worker and told him my name and it was my first day and he got a manager and she just smiled and me and then pointed at another manager in the back and told me to follow him. This other manager didn't say anything to me, showed me the break room, showed me the locker rooms and bathroom and then said I could get changed and then he was gone. I went back down and he gave me an iPad and logged me in and told me to go do the e learning up in the break room. I finished in around 2 hours so went back down and told him, and he just took the iPad, told me to wait a minute, and then he left me standing there for maybe 10 minutes. Eventually another worker came up to me and started showing me how to do stuff. The workers were nice enough, one of them was making conversation with me. And a third manager was pretty nice too. But is it normal for them to be so cold??? I felt so unwanted and sooo out of place. I know I'm not a baby and they're not going to baby me, but he didn't even introduce himself to me. I clearly already want to quit lol.

First job

I recently just got my first job and I have my first shift tomorrow. I've had orientation already, but it was in another location and I didn't meet anyone. My job is in a very well known fast food place. I'm surprisingly not too worried about the customer interaction, I don't need them to like me. I'm so worried about my coworkers though. I really want them to like me. I know it will take a while. I'm extremely shy and I'm well aware that it can sometimes come across as rude or cold, so I try my best to not be so shy but I can't help it. I've had a really bad year in college, so I'm hoping this will go well for me.

Also, I'm 100% overthinking things, but I have no idea what to do when I get there tomorrow. It's likely going to be busy, I don't start until 5pm. Do I go queue at the counter like a customer and then just tell the worker who's taking orders that it's my first day? I don't know what else I'm supposed to do, but I'm just so nervous.

No common decency from neighbours?

Family next door are nice people, we're not too close with them, but friendly, my mam has had drinks with the parents, get a gift for Christmas, etc. never had any real issues with them.

They've two young sons, around 6 and 10. They're always out their back garden playing football. All the time. Balls banging against the fence, shouting, crying, but can't really complain, just kids being kids. We know they have a huge collection of footballs, at least 30, probably closer to 50. However, they're constantly calling into us to get their balls from our garden. It used to be maybe 2/3 times a weeks, and when they'd come in there'd be more than 10 balls in our garden, so fair enough, no issues. Recently they've been calling in multiple times a day, and they're only calling in for 2-3 balls. They ring the bell once, twice, bang the door, and sometimes bang the window of the front room. My mam works from home and sometimes cannot get up to answer. She's told the kids that, and they respected it for around a week, and then went back to their original behaviour. It's really getting ridiculous. Sometimes they'll call in 3/4 times an hour. We've now deliberately stopped answering because it's just annoying at this point, especially when they're only coming in for like 3 balls. They also come in at all times of the evening. 3pm, 5pm, 8pm, 10pm. It's ridiculous. Can't really blame the kids tho. They're young sons they might not fully understand how annoying and rude it is. The parents tho, either they have no idea, which is quite concerning, or they couldn't give a shit, which is bad.

Also, the parent are young enough, maybe early 40s. They have the occasional party. Usually one over new years, another at Easter, a couple during the summer. They're always family parties. Loads of adults, loads of young kids. Blaring music, shouting, screaming, all until around 3/4 in the morning. Annoying, but again can't really complain about a few odd nights in the year. However, the past few weeks, they've had family over every Friday. Same stuff, kids outside screaming and shouting, adults clearly on the drink and singing their heads off, blaring music. Has been going on until around 1/2am these recent times. They're at it again tonight, and I can't help but feel pissed of. With the heatwave, I think we're all aware most people have all windows open, yet they're currently out their garden blaring the music, still playing football, shouting, singing. It's usually bad enough with the windows closed, but now with them open I feel like I might as well join them.

Am I overreacting by being annoyed by this or is it inconsiderate carry on?

What can I do about my brother's mess?

My brother is 22, I'm 19 F. We have no relationship. We don't speak. We don't interact. We both still live at home, so it's like living with a stranger. He treats my mom like shit and has no respect for her. She has a bit of a soft spot for him because when my dad cheated on her, my brother was old enough to understand what was happening and be there for my mom. However, that was a long time ago, and my brother is an absolute asshole now.

Anyway, I actually posted this on Reddit somewhere a few months ago, but I need different advice now. My brother has started growing out his hair, and now cuts his own hair, as well as shaving his beard. A few months ago, he left chunks and piles of hair all over the bathroom. Like I mean everywhere. Down the drain, on the toothbrushes, on the floor, on toilet, in the toilet, absolutely everywhere. It absolutely disgusted me that he could be so lazy and have such little respect for my sister and I who have to use that bathroom. I told my mom and she told him to clean it up. He "cleaned it", but there was still hair everywhere. It led to my mom cleaning it for him, because he couldn't be bothered to do it properly. My sister and him have a very minimal relationship. If they're in the kitchen together she'll tease him or things like that. It's rare though. Anyway, she told him to stop leaving hair everywhere, and he did for a while. A few weeks later, there was hair everywhere again. I decided to use his toothbrush to clean the sink, and I made sure to leave hair his toothbrush so that he'd get the hint. That worked for a while, but it doesn't anymore. At least once a week there's hair all over the sink. It's usually only the sink now, thankfully, but it's still disgusting, and I'm sick of it. We have cleaners who clean our house weekly, and he always ends up shaving his beard etc after they've left. I usually use his toothbrush to clean it. It frustrates me so much. I've asked my mom numerous times to ask him to stop leaving such a mess. My mom doesn't want to hear it. She dismisses me, ignores me, and won't do anything about it. It makes me so pissed, because why do I have to deal with his filth?

My brothers bedroom is a disaster. It absolutely stinks. There's trash all over the floor. His wardrobe is bursting, and so there's also clothes all over the floor. There's so much shit everywhere. He has a pile in the middle of the room for his USED nicotine patches from his mouth, absolutely vile. Theres beer and water bottles. My mom is the bigger fool because when he's at work she'll go in and empty his bin, take out the recycling, hand his clothes up and also cleans his bed sheets once a week. As well as this, she cooks him dinner, washes his clothes, makes sure the specific foods that only he likes are constantly in the house, and he does nothing in return. Let me remind you, he's 22, and 23 in a couple months. He works a full time shift job, so he only works 3/4 days a week. Like, this is a grown man. I always tell my mom she shouldn't clean his room for him, and that's it's embarrassing that he can't do it himself. A few days ago, she reached a point where she decided she was sick of it. She told him to clean it. It took him 2 days to actually do it, and he didn't bring any trash out to the bin. She found all the bottles and rubbish stuffed is his drawers, left them on his desk, and again told him to clean it. She would never threaten to kick him out, but she implied if he wanted to live like a pig, he's not going to do it in her house. Again, it took him 3 days to actually clean his room, which he did today.

It stresses my mom out so much asking him to do anything. When we were on holiday a few weeks ago, my brother was at home. I asked her to ask him to bring in a package for me, and she got mad at me, and said she's not asking him to do anything, because he won't do it. I don't know why she's like this. After all, she's the mother. She does almost everything for him. I don't know why she's allows him to treat her like this. Anyway, back to the bathroom. A few days ago, the bathroom was in such a mess. I told my mom I would clean it, IF, the next time she spoke to my brother, she'd tell him to stop being so disgusting and lazy. This was while she was planning to tell him the part about how if he wants to live like a pig he can do it somewhere else. My mom said she would tell him to clean up after himself. I spent 2 hours cleaning the bathroom, most of the mess caused by my brother. It was spotless. Now, 2 days later, the sink is covered in hair again. Just now, I went to my mom and reminded her how she said she'd talk to him, and that she obviously didn't, as the sinks was full of hair again. I was extremely cautious, knowing that she is finally relieved that he has just cleaned his room. I said it nicely, calmly. She got annoyed and completely ignored me. I honestly don't know what to do at this point. I know she's sick of hearing me complain about his mess, but it's because she just won't talk to him. She can ignore it because she's not the one who has to use that bathroom, and it really pisses me off. What can I say to her to get her to do something about it?

I can already feel some certain comments coming, so I'll reply now before I get them.

  1. Why can't I say something to him? He will not listen to me. He couldn't give a flying fuck about anything I would have to say. My sister has already told him multiple times. If he won't listen to her, there's not a hope in hell he would listen to me. To put it short and clear, me and him are strangers. I refuse to speak to him.

  2. My mom is an amazing mother. I couldn't ask for a better one. 9 times out of 10 we have a great relationship. She listens to anything else I say. As soon as I mention his name, she sighs and ignores me.

  3. We are not the type of family to talk about feelings. So I can't really go down that road and argue that I feel disrespected, hurt etc.

  4. Someone once told me to start leaving dirty tampons around lol. It would be a good bit of revenge, but I have too much respect for myself and my sister to do that.

Please, if anyone has any ideas on what I could say to my mom, or any ideas of what I can do to annoy him/ get revenge (without being childish lol)

Ice machine question

I feel like this is a dumbass question, but if I buy an ice machine, something like the one in this photo, once the ice is made, does it need to be transferred to the freezer? Surely it can just stay in the machine?

Part time work

I feel like I always see people on here saying the exact same thing as what I'm about to say, but I have to ask. How are people actually getting part time jobs? I apply online directly on companies websites and it's always either a "we won't be processing your application any further" or I just never hear anything back. Im 19 and never had a job. It gets more embarrassing with each day. I live just outside of Dublin, so it's not hard to find positions to apply for. I'm not making excuses, but almost everyone I know got their job through a family member. I don't live close enough to any family that could get me a job, so it's just up to me.

I've been considering doing some volunteering to make my CV a bit stronger, considering I've never had a job. If anyone knows anything about this please do tell.

If anyone has absolutely any tiny piece of advice, it would be greatly appreciated. I'm desperate for a job.
