Best ways to make friends and stay productive at Ball State?

I’m transferring to Ball State as a junior and I know nobody there. I feel like most people probably already have their friend groups, and I’m also living in an apartment instead of the dorms, so I’m worried it’ll be harder to meet people.

I move in soon and honestly have zero plans. I’m afraid once school starts I’ll just go to class, study, go back to my apartment, and doomscroll the rest of the day.

I want to make friends and actually do stuff, but I don’t drink or party. I already plan on joining clubs, so besides that, what are the best ways to meet people? Any good campus events, intramurals, places to hang out, study groups, jobs, or other things?

Also, what do you guys do to stay productive and not just sit in your room all day?

Which DICK’S Sporting Goods position is the best and least boring?

I just saw a huge influx of job postings for DICK’S Sporting Goods and I’m thinking about applying, but there are so many different positions that I’m not sure which one would actually be the best.

The openings I saw were Footwear, Apparel, Golf, Sport & Outdoor, Endzone & Loyalty, On Field Operations, Off Field Operations, Footwear Operations, and Advisor Endzone & Loyalty.

For anyone who works or has worked at DICK’S, which position would you recommend the most? I’m mainly looking for something that stays busy and makes the shift go by fast.

I had a stocking job before and absolutely hated it. It was extremely boring and time went by so slow, so I definitely don’t want another job where I’m just stocking shelves or working in the backroom most of the shift.

I actually don’t mind talking to customers and feel like having more interaction would make work go by faster. Which positions have the most customer interaction and variety throughout the shift? And are there any positions you would definitely avoid?

Also curious about the starting pay and how flexible they are with college students.

Is it worth going to IU Bloomington for accounting if I didn’t get into Kelley?

I’m trying to figure out if going to IUB is still worth it for my situation. I want to be an accountant and that’s pretty much the career I’m set on, but I got accepted to IU Bloomington and didn’t get into Kelley.

I was originally at IU Kokomo for accounting and transferred because I wanted more of an actual college experience, more opportunities, networking, internships, etc. I’m currently going to Ball State for accounting, but I keep wondering if IUB would be a better option.

My main concern is that if I’m at IU but not in Kelley, is there really much of a point if my goal is accounting? Would I be able to major in something related and still get accounting internships/jobs, or would I basically need to eventually get into Kelley for IUB to make sense?

I’m not expecting to work at some crazy prestigious firm. I mainly just want a solid accounting career, good internship opportunities, and eventually possibly get my CPA.

For anyone who goes to IU or knows the accounting/Kelley situation, would you choose IUB without Kelley or Ball State for accounting?

How accurate are 7 Brew drink measurements/calories?

Hey, I’m currently on a weight loss journey and I track my calories pretty closely. I was wondering if any 7 Brew employees could tell me how accurate/consistent the drink measurements are compared to what’s listed on the website.

Like, when you make a drink, are the syrups, milk, cream, etc. measured pretty precisely every time, or is there a decent amount of human error depending on who makes it? If a drink is listed as, for example, 150 calories, how confident could I be that what I actually get is close to that?

Also, if anyone has recommendations for good low-calorie drinks, I’d love to hear them. The more protein the better if there are any options like that. I’m trying to find drinks that still taste good while keeping the calories as low as possible.
Thanks!

How do you guys shop 3 orders at once?

I’m still pretty new to Spark and had a question. How do you guys organize shopping orders when you get 3 customers in one batch?

Do you fit everything into one shopping cart, or do you use two carts? Do you bring bins, bags, or anything to separate the orders? I’m mainly worried about accidentally mixing items between customers.

I’d love to hear how experienced drivers organize everything and any tips that make triple orders easier. Thanks!

How is the Rec center gym?

Hello everyone I’m a new student transfer! I checked out the rec center and it was very nice, to my understanding during the school year it’s free to all students is that right? With that being said how packed does it actually get and what are the best time to go with the lowest amount of people? I’m such a introvert and won’t go to my local planet fitness if it’s insanely packed so I’m assuming it’s crazy packed here😭

Anyone here worked at Fresh Thyme Market?

I know this isn’t the Fresh Thyme subreddit, but from what I understand Meijer owns or is affiliated with Fresh Thyme, so I figured some of you might have experience there.

I have an interview for a part time cashier position and was wondering what it’s actually like to work there. How’s the management, scheduling, and overall work environment? Is it stressful, or is it a pretty chill job?
I’m also a college student, so I’d love to know how flexible they are with scheduling. Do part timers usually get enough hours? What’s the employee discount like, and are there any perks or downsides that aren’t obvious before you start?

I’ve also never actually shopped at Fresh Thyme before. Is it more like Aldi where it’s focused on low prices, or is it more of a specialty grocery store? What really makes it different from Meijer or other grocery stores?

I’d really appreciate any honest opinions, good or bad. Thanks!

How is working as a Team Sports/Apparel Associate at Dick’s Sporting Goods?

Hey everyone, I just applied for a Team Sports/Apparel position at Dick’s and got invited to do a video interview. I’ll also be moving to the area soon for college, so this would hopefully be my job while I’m in school.

For anyone who’s worked there, how did you like it? Were managers good? Was scheduling flexible around college classes? How stressful does it get, and what does a typical shift look like? Do you spend most of your time helping customers, stocking, or folding clothes? Is the employee discount actually good? Also, how many hours did you usually get as a part-time employee?

Just looking for honest opinions, both good and bad. Thanks!

Is Chick-fil-A a good job for a college student?

I just got an interview for a Kitchen Team Member position paying $16.50/hr, which is pretty good in my area.

For those who work or have worked at Chick-fil-A, do you actually like it? How flexible are they with college schedules? What’s the free food policy like? How stressful is the kitchen, and would you recommend it overall?

Just looking for honest opinions before I decide if it’s worth it. Thanks!

Business/Accounting Majors: Why Did You Choose Ball State Over Purdue?

I’m a prospective transfer student who’s planning to major in accounting, and I’d love to hear from current Ball State business or accounting students.

For those of you who considered Purdue, what made you decide on Ball State instead? Was it the cost, the campus, class sizes, internships, professors, or something else?

I’m also curious how you’ve liked the accounting program overall. Do you feel like it’s prepared you well for internships and finding a job after graduation? How has your experience been with the Miller College of Business?

I’m pretty introverted and not much of a partier, but I still want a fun college experience where there’s always something going on and it’s possible to make friends. Has Ball State been a good fit for you?

Looking back, would you still choose Ball State if you had the chance to do it all over again? I’d really appreciate hearing your experiences. Thanks!

Transfer Student Interested in Purdue Accounting and Campus Life

I’m a prospective transfer student who’s been looking into Purdue’s accounting program, and I’d love to hear from people who actually attend.

I’m planning to major in accounting, so I’m curious how you’ve liked the program. Do you feel like it prepares you well for internships and jobs after graduation? How have your experiences with career fairs, recruiting, and professors been?

I’m also wondering what campus life is really like. I’m pretty introverted and not much of a partier, but I still want the classic college experience where there’s always something to do and opportunities to meet people. Has Purdue been a good fit for you if you’re more on the quiet side?

Looking back, what are some things you wish you knew before choosing Purdue? If you could go back, would you still choose Purdue?

I’d really appreciate any honest advice or experiences. Thanks!

Difference Between Customer Service Associate and Restaurant Crew Member at Raising Cane’s?

I’m looking at applying to Raising Cane’s, and I noticed there are two different positions on the website: Customer Service Associate and Restaurant Crew Member.

What’s the actual difference between the two? Is the Customer Service Associate basically just the cashier/front counter, or do they also help cook food, bread chicken, work fryers, etc.?

I’m mainly trying to figure out if the Customer Service Associate role is mostly customer-facing or if everyone rotates through every station regardless of the title.

If you’ve worked there before, I’d appreciate hearing what your day-to-day was like. Thanks!

Is Chipotle a good job for college students? Honest opinions? ✅

I’m a college student looking for a part time job, and Chipotle has caught my attention because of the tuition reimbursement and free meal benefit. I was wondering how the job is overall. Is it a good place to work, or is it really stressful?

I’m also curious how the tuition reimbursement actually works. I used to work at Walmart, but I couldn’t use their tuition program because it only covered a small list of online schools. Is Chipotle different, and does it work for most colleges and majors?

Also, do you actually get a free bowl or meal every shift? As a college student on a tight budget, that would honestly help a lot. Overall, would you recommend working at Chipotle, or are there better part time jobs for college students with good education benefits? I’d appreciate any honest experiences, both good and bad. Thanks!

Best value off campus housing around Ball State?

I’m transferring to Ball State this fall and I’m trying to figure out where to live.

I’m mainly looking for the best value. The cheaper the better, but I also kind of prefer a fully furnished apartment so I don’t have to deal with buying a bed, desk, couch, and all that stuff.

Right now I’ve looked at places like SilverTree, Varsity House, and University Village, but I’m open to anything.

If you had to pick the best balance of price, quality, amenities, management, and location, what would you recommend? Also, are there any apartments or property managers I should avoid?

I’d love to hear your experiences. Thanks!

Am I budgeting realistically for living off campus in college?

I’m transferring to a university this fall and will be living in my own unfurnished apartment with roommates. I’m trying to make a realistic monthly budget before I move out.

Right now this is what I have:
Rent + utilities + trash: $500–650
Gas: ~$150
Food/groceries/snacks: ~$250
Hygiene, toiletries, cleaning supplies, kitchen supplies, laundry: ~$100
Haircut: $40
Subscriptions: ~$50

So I’m estimating around $1,100–1,250/month, not including savings or unexpected expenses.

I also know my first month will be much more expensive since I’ll have to buy everything for the apartment (bed, mattress, kitchen stuff, cleaning supplies, furniture, etc.).

For those of you living off campus:
How much do you spend each month?
Am I forgetting any major expenses?
Was there anything that surprised you after moving out for the first time?

Just trying to make sure I’m budgeting realistically before I make the move. Thanks!

How much do Ball State students actually spend per month?

I’m an incoming transfer student to Ball State and I’m planning to live in an unfurnished apartment at Silvertree. I’ll also be getting a part-time job.

I know my first month will be a lot more expensive because I’ll have to buy everything like a bed, kitchen supplies, furniture, cleaning supplies, etc. But after that, I’m curious what your normal monthly expenses look like.

About how much do you spend each month on:
Rent + utilities
Food
Toiletries/hygiene
Household supplies
Gas
Anything else

Also, how do you afford it?

Do you work part-time? About how much do you make a month? Do your parents help, or do you mostly use student loans/FAFSA refunds to pay for living expenses?

Just trying to get a realistic idea of what living off campus at Ball State is actually like. Thanks!

Is commuting from Kokomo worth it?

I’m transferring from IU Kokomo to Ball State this fall and I’m trying to decide if I should commute from Kokomo or get an apartment in Muncie.

The drive is about an hour each way. I’d like to save money by living at home, but I’m transferring because I want the full college experience, make friends, join clubs, go to events, and hopefully get internships. I’m worried that commuting will make it harder to be involved on campus, but getting an apartment means taking on more expenses and finding a part-time job.

For anyone who’s commuted from around an hour away or lived in Muncie, what would you recommend? Did commuting make you feel disconnected from campus, or was it manageable? Was getting an apartment worth the extra cost?

How easy is it to get a campus job?

Hey everyone, I’m an upcoming transfer student and looking to see how easy is it to get a campus job? Will there be plenty of openings that are easy to get or limited spots and competitive? I would think it would be hella competitive with students like me looking for a job. What’s the average pay rate for a campus job?

Confused about Kelley at IU Indianapolis vs Bloomington

I got accepted to IU Bloomington for Fall 2026, but not into Kelley, so as far as I know I can’t major in accounting there.

I’ve been looking into IU Indianapolis though, and it seems like it’s much easier to get into Kelley there. Is that actually true, or am I misunderstanding how it works?

If I want to major in accounting, would IU Indianapolis Kelley be the better option? Is the education or recruiting much different compared to Bloomington Kelley, or is it mostly the same degree on a different campus?

I’d appreciate hearing from anyone who’s been to either campus or knows how it works.

How hard is it to find a part-time job in Bloomington as an IU student?

Hey everyone, I’m thinking about transferring to Indiana University Bloomington next semester, but one of my biggest concerns is finding a part-time job. If I transfer, I’ll 100% need one to help pay for rent and other living expenses.

I’ve never lived in a college town before, so I’m wondering how the job market is for students. Is it pretty competitive since so many students are looking for work, or are there usually enough opportunities?

Are there any jobs that pay around $14+/hour and can consistently give 20+ hours a week while still being flexible with classes? How long did it take you to find a job, and where would you recommend applying?
I’d really appreciate any advice. Thanks!
