Ontario Canada, a massive shithole with a government that hates you and will not help you.

I'm a born and raised Ontarian, but I've grown so incredibly sick and tired of this shithole. Visually, most of it's beautiful, but that doesn't mean shit when crime is high, the feds and judicial system handicap the police's ability to handle that crime and keep dangerous people actually locked up. If your non-driving license photo ID was stolen while you are out of province and require ID to be able to return? Too bad, fuck you. The only way to get a replacement is to go to a ServiceOntario. What's that? You can't get to a ServiceOntario without an ID because ID is required to board a plane or train and you don't drive? Sucks to suck, shouldn't have got robbed, that's your problem. Housing is too expensive? The government makes it even harder to get the permits to build housing, so prices keep rising, and young people who grew up here are forced to leave because we simply can't afford to live anywhere in Ontario. But at the same time, drug addict on the street? Let's let them cause havoc for everyone else while we watch drug-related crime and drug-related medical calls skyrocket. In some areas, it looks like a literal apocalypse with the drug zombies everywhere.

Ontario does not give a single flying fuck about you, nor do they pretend to care. Canada doesn't really care too much either. They'll just steal your money and call it taxes, pander to you and pretend to listen to your concerns during election season just to break every single promise, ignore their constituents, and make the problems worse or do nothing to make them better once elected. My advice? Get the fuck outta Dodge while you still can. That's what I did. Couldn't be happier with my decision. Fuck Ontario, fuck Canada. Take your shitty ideas that destroyed a once great, prosperous country and shove them where the sun don't shine.

I'm out, and I'm not coming back.

Fuck Justin Trudeau. Fuck Mark Carney. Fuck Premeir Ford. Fuck Mayor Chow.

Transferring in Montréal, from the Ocean to a corridor train.

Hey all! So at the end of September il be going from PEI back to Toronto and ive settled on taking the train the entire way from Moncton NB, but even though i very rarley use VIA, i know about their infamous delays. My train is scheduled to arrive in Montréal at 09:59 or something like that, and my corridor train to Toronto leaves at 13:59 and that leaves me with a few questions, if anyone has one or all of the answers, id greatly appreciate a hand!

  1. Do you think ive left myself enough time to make ny transfer, accounting for delays?

  2. If i miss my train to Toronto because the Ocean train was late, will VIA help me? I am getting fully refundable transferrable tickets.

  3. By the looks of it both trains leave from the same station, Gare Central, is that correct, if not, is it easy to walk from one station to the other?

Again, thank you if you leave an answer, i appreciate it, and have a great day!

My mom gets on my ass about women and future kids.

My mom has a bit of an annoying tendency to put pressure on me to find a girlfriend, get married and have kids quickly, its not that she wants something diffrent from me, a wife and kids with a white pickett fence sounds great!

But, ive made my mistakes, im sure il make more, ive watched my mom, ive watched my younger brother, and others all make their mistakes too, and come to the conclusion i should be in no hurry to find a girlfriend, and ive taken on the midset that i would love to find the one, but, if that takes 10yrs, sobeit, if that never happens somehow, id be disappointed, but sobeit.

Im not the most financially stable, not the strongest or none of that, but ive got a good groove going, im happy, i make my money, i enjoy going about my day and stand on my own 2, im not going to jeopardize that so i can rush to make my mom happy, no matter the pressure she puts on me.

Ohhh, well you have so many female friends, why dont you date one of them? Then inevitably i have to explain they are friends and not girlfriends, each has one reason or another, you could be super pretty, but be a total physco bitch, il be your friend but wont date that with a 1000ft pole. You can be extremley overweight and unattractive but also be hilarious, again, il be your friend, but i wont date you.

Holy fck, yall needa read before commenting.

Seems to be a reddit thing, ive know about it for a while but my last few posts, omg people are so stupid. I put up a post asking about how id be able to go about getting registration for my ebike so i can legally use it when i moved back home. Right there in the main body of the post, i clearly said, TWICE, i know that if i get registration, i need a motorcycle endorsement, insurance and i cant use bike lanes and going through the other restrictions, saying yea i know about these rules, in hopes it'd ward off these idiots, saying hey thats not what im asking about, and reiterated the question.

The comments? "oH yOu CaNt uSe ThE bIkE lAnE" "yOuR bIcYcLe iS a MoToRcYcLe, YoU nEeD a LiCeNsE fOr ThAt" just not even making any attempt or assemblance of an attempt to help answer the question or help point me in the direction of finding an answer. Nope just random shit i already acknowledged i know about and have to follow, and Karen's being Karen's. My mistake was posting it on a local sub for my hometown, because someone did report it to the cops, they do know who i am and my reddit username, and they did call me, everything is all good and they know im living out of province now, on the plus side, theyre going to find me an answer but also, fuck you karen.

God people are insufferable. Like fuck, read the fucking post and youll realize, oh wait, he knows about the rules, acknowledged them and is asking about how to use the bike legally? No need to report him to the cops, but no no no, reading is too much work.

Curious if anyone understands the new rules for ebikes, and how to get registration for an ebike thats too fast.

Hello all, so il be returning to Ontario in the fall i read about the new rules surrounding eBikes. My bike looks like a bike, not a moped, is within the 500w limit, within the 120kg limit, but does reach speeds beyond 32km/h (upto 48km/h) out of the box. My understanding is that i would need a M2 or M, Valid registration and Valid insurance.

Thats where i become confused, when googling, i read in several places that you cannot register an eBike if it was not assigned a VIN from Transport Canada. So my main question is, does anyone know if they will do something to fix that so ebikes that exceed the max limits can still be legal with a process involved?

Id really like to keep this bike, while it has no suspension, its been great so far, but i cant reduce the limiter without some hacking around that i dont know how to do and am not comfortable trying, but if im riding the bike and i can go full speed safley, i will, and i want to be able to do that without worrying about being stopped by Police, getting a expensive ticket and potentially (most likely) having my bike seized.

If anyone has an understanding, please do let me know! I will be reaching out to MTO or someone somehow, idk how but il figure it out, to get some answers, but figured this was worth a shot.

Thanks yall!

Edit: Realizing yall are misunderstanding what im getting at, I understand it needs to be registered, and i know to stay off bike lanes and paths, ive already read up on that, thats not what im asking. Im asking if anyone knows if they are making any changes to make it possible to register a bike like mine that does not have a VIN.

Drivers piss me off. (Rant/complaining)

I don't own a car, don't have a licence, and don't drive. I rely on an e-bike to get around, run errands, and do pretty much everything. My bike isn't crazy powerful, but it'll do 42–48 km/h normally, and if I really push it with a good tailwind and a slight downhill it'll crack 50 km/h. That's more than enough considering the highest speed limit anywhere in my town is 40 km/h, its also a pretty small place so e-biking is a perfect solution for me.

Because of that speed limit, I ride simmilarly to a motorcycle. I take the lane instead of hugging the curb, usually riding in the right tire rut. I'm doing the speed limit, so there's no reason for me to squeeze myself against the curb just so someone can make a sketchy pass. Honestly, 99% of drivers are great, but it's always that last 1%...

The biggest one is at red lights. I'll stop in the lane like everyone else, and some genius decides they're going to pull up beside me even though there's clearly not enough room for both of us. Then the light turns green, and since my e-bike accelerates just as fast as the average car, we're both trying to occupy the same space. Now I have to back off, let them go first, and get stuck behind them because they couldn't wait five seconds in line, If i were to do that, id get a ticket, rightfully so.

Then there are the people who try to pass me within my lane. They'll start moving into oncoming traffic and speed up, I'll see them in my mirror and shift over a bit to give them room, and then... they just stop. Instead of completing the pass, they sit beside me matching my speed with me trapped between them and the curb. Why? You already started an illegal pass, at least finish it instead of creating an even more dangerous situation.

Neither of these things are the end of the world, womp womp, I lose a few seconds, but I shouldn't have to in the first place. If I'm already doing the speed limit, or even a little over it, why are you trying to pass me? And if I'm occupying the lane at a red light, why can't you just wait behind me like you would if i were on a motorcycle?

I cant just take the full lane because law requires me to keep right at all times unless turning left, and they do enforce that. I can only get away with the right side rut because its usually just clear of the manhole covers and the potholes around them, so id have a good argument for being out a bit to allow me to ride in a straight predictable path and speed instead of swerving and slowing down to avoid potholes. Idk the whole thing is stupid yall, just wait in line like everyone else.

The Gordie Howe belongs to Canada.

As far as Canadians go, im pretty strongly pro-American, but this Gordie Howe bridge toll deal makes no sense, and Mark Carney or whoever agreed to this deal is a clown.

The original deal, Canada pays to build 100% of the bridge, then we will keep the toll revenue until weve paid down the debt from building it, then we would share the toll revenue with Michigan after the debt was paid. But big orange man didnt like that, he wanted 50% of tolls from day one, and our idiot leaders agreed.

So lets get this straight, we paid to built the bridge by ourselves and took on $6bn of debt, the only things the americans need to pay for iirc is their border check facilities and the connection to I-75, Yes thats cost, but that costs nothing compared to $6bn to have the bridge in the first place. Then, for some inexplicable reason, we decided that were going to share from day 1 instead of sticking to the deal?

No fuck off, Canadian officials shouldnt have agreed to this deal, its a horrible deal for Canada and tells the orange jelly roll over in Washington he can walk all over us with ease. This dosent reflect on every day americans ofc, but this does reflect so incredibly poorly on your government.

Montréal to Toronto with an Ebike

Hey yall! So i made a post in the VIA rail sub yesterday where i learned you *can* take an Ebike on the Ocean frim Atlantic Canada to Montréal, but you can not take an Ebike on the train from either Montréal or Ottawa to Toronto.

Im looking into doing it this way when i move back to Toronto in attempt to save some money by taking my bike with me back to Toronto at the same time instead of having to take it apart and ship it independently, and with the VIA rail gap it leaves me a question.

Are there any options to get myself, a full size suitcase, a carry on and a 57lb ebike batteries out, from Montréal to somewhere in the GTA?

I dont really care where im dropped off in the GTA, though ideally it would be Union Station or Pearson Airport, and im not picky about what time i leave Montréal as id plan to spend a night in Montréal to hedge against VIA delays making me miss my connection. Im also curious of cost or where i can look into cost, and if youve done the trip, how was it?

Thanks all!

Moncton to Toronto, a few questions.

Hey all, so im currently working seasonally on Prince Edward Island, and at the end of summer il need a way to get back home with my ebike. I was looking into VIA as an option from Moncton NB to Toronto via Montréal, with a 2 day bike ride along the Confederation Trail from where im staying in P.E.I, over the bridge and along the NB trail into Dieppe.

But that leaves me with a few questions, and if your able to answer one or all of them id appreciate it.

  1. I saw there is a fee to bring bikes on the train and some rules around it, which my bike is within, but are bikes usually accepted along these 2 routes? (Moncton -> Montréal, then a corridor train to Toronto)

  2. For anyone whos done the trip from Moncton to Montréal, is it worth it? Im more worried about that stretch because of how long it is, VIA is telling me 18-19hrs. If i do chose the train, what side has the best views?

  3. Coach vs Sleeper, The sleeper is a bit pricey, i can afford it but part of why im considering VIA is the possibility to save money moving my bike back with me at the same instead of shipping it. But for anyone whos done this route, is a sleeper a must? Or will a lone traveller be fine in coach?

Thanks all! Have a great day!

Does the U.S have an equivalent to The Tragically Hip?

Howdy neighbors! So this may be an intresting question, and for those of you familiar with the hip wont need the introduction, but here in Canada, its very common to hear the hip referred to as Canada's Band, its safe to say they are universally loved coast to coast to coast, almost all their albums went #1 in Canada, and at the end of their 30odd year run on their final tour while front man Gord Downie was battling terminal brain cancer, 1 in 3 households in Canada tuned in to their last concert.

So now on to my question, in the U.S, do you guys have an equivalent to the hip? A band so incredibly popular and universally loved by all that they are called America's band, and 1 in 3 American households would tune in to their final concert?

Recycling bullshit.

So where i live, every time you buy a drink in a plastic bottle, rather it be milk, water or soda, you pay a deposit at the store, and get that deposit back when you return it to, in my area, 1 spefic store.

Well normally, id think thats not a problem, im losing out on my 10-15cent deposit, but no big deal, but oh no no, if you put plastic bottles in with the plastic recycling and they see it, theyll reject all your recycling, including paper, and make you wait a month to get rid of it, or make you drive to the dump and pay to dump it.

You may be thinking, well how hard is it to just drive the bottles over to that store, get some money back and not have the hastle, and my answer to you is, quite difficult, i live in a rural area and dont drive, i instead rely on a long range ebike, maybe a taxi? Well understandably, taxi drivers are not thrilled about bags of "garbage" being in their cars. I do have a basket on the rear if my bike, but it can only take 2 grocery bags worth at a time. The other problem, my bike is long range, but by the time i get into city limits, ive been rolling for almost 40mins at 40km/h, the grocery store is all on the near side of town, but the returns store is on the far side 15mins further, and im not super confident i have the range for that even fully charged as thats pushing 100mins of riding.

Idk, i get what they are trying to do, and i appreciate that they are caring for the environment and making sure plastic waste is handled properly, but why, why wont you accept plastic bottles sorted in with other plastic recycling? I dont care about the deposit, i just need these bottles gone, ive even tried having the bottles in their own seperate bag, and they still wouldnt take them. They all end up at the recycling centre anyways, so why are you being little assholes about it? Just take the damn bag full of recyclable items and recycle it, we pay you via taxes to do that, so do it.

Flavored vape bans are stupid, wont achieve the govt's goals and is exceeding easy to get around.

So i vape, and just recently ive moved from a province that allows flavored vapes to be sold in private shops to a province that's banned all flavored vapes except menthol and tobacco and can only be sold at a special government licensed or run tobacconists shop with hours that make it inaccessible to trades workers and 9-5ers alike.

The stated reason was to combat young people consuming nicotine (they also banned flavored cigarettes and flavored nicotine pouches in the same act), their logic is ban flavors, makes it taste gross, less people will do it, right? Wrong.

It is so exceedingly easy to get around it makes no difference and is actually kinda more convenient, i just go Online, pick the favors i want, then checkout and its shipped to my door with the correct provincial tax stamps, last 2 times ive done it, ive never had to prove my age, the website didnt check, CanadaPost didnt check. Not to mention, by doing it this way, i order more at once, so i usually end up paying less for my vapes than i would at a store. If i really wanted to, i can just go to another province and buy flavored vapes there and bring them back, completely cutting my provinces government out of their tax money, its not very difficult to get around.

So if i, a not so tech inclined 24yo can figure out how to get flavored vapes, so can everyone else who knows how to use the internet, even a minor. Their heart is in the right place, but their actions wont achieve their desired outcome.

Freedom Mobile, Dishonest practices and customer service lying to my face.

Freedom Mobile is my mobile carrier, they are only big mobile company in Canada to not be owned by Rogers, Bell or Telus. When i signed up with them, i got an excellent deal on my phone plan, id pay $34/mo taxes included, which is a really really cheap plan compared to the competition at the time. With this pre-paid plan, id get unlimited calling and texting to any US or Canadian number, and id get 30gb of 5G data, and unlimited LTE+ after that, plus the Freedom employee at the kiosk told me that this plan is covered by their price guarantee.

The guarantee as presented to customers, is that your mobile plan will not go up in cost, so long as you dont make any changes to your plan. Well, ive been a customer since 2021, and havent changed my plan at all and my bill has risen over $20/mo. I only noticed because i had the exact amount in my checking account and it declined, so i called them to see whats up, and they lied staight to my face.

They told me my bill has only risen $5, but the difference between $34 total and $58 plus taxes is a hell of alot more than $5, but buddy kept insisting no it hasnt gone up, even the supervisor parroted the same lie. Taxes have not changed that much, its still a 13% sales tax and thats it, so i know they are lying and engaging in false advertising, and ive got the recipts to prove it.

I tried playing the whole, Well i dont like how ive been treated and lied to, if this isnt resolved and i dont get some kind of deal here to get back to what my bill should be or better, i will be taking my business elsewhere since you now cost more than other carriers for the same service on less coverage, and that didnt work, they werenonly offering a one time $5 credit, so im just leaving Freedom, and id hope none of you fall for or put up with their lies either.

Its not islamaphobic to not want a call to prayer blasted into my house 5 times a day.

So they have just opened a new mosque a few doors up from where i live, initially i had absolutely no problem with it going in where it did, why would i? But had i known id be woken up daily and have a call to prayer interupt meetings during the day, i wouldve fought it.

Its not even that its a mosque, even if it was a church tolling its bell 5 times a day to call worshipers to service, id also be annoyed, this isnt about islam. But we have reasonable rules around churches tolling their bells, its only allowed on Sundays after 9am, because everyone recognizes it could be an inconvenience for those living near by and who may work at home, why dont these same rules apply to all religous institutions?

Im not saying a church should be allowed to toll its bell any time they'd like, im just saying we should make everyone play by the same rules. Its also just part of being a good neighbor, good neighbors dont make crap tons of noise at all hours of the day including at an unreasonably early hour.

Yet when you bring this spefic concern to city council to ask they reach out and find a solution, because weve tried and have just been stonewalled, you get called intolerant, racist, islamaphobic, so on. This is just exausting, its not an ist or phobic to want your neighborhood to return to being peaceful and quiet, and to not have your meetings constantly interupted by loud noise every day, its not racist to want everyone to have to play by the same rules for the sake of everyone's enjoyment of their property and neighborhood.

Bike lanes protected by the charter of rights and freedoms?

Its a bit of an old case now, but i was going back to take another look at the court case Cycle Toronto vs Ontario. The TLDR, the provincial government wanted to remove the cycle lanes on 3 major roads in Toronto, il admit im baised on this since i am a cyclist myself and use the lanes they were proposing to remove, their logic and reasoning was very flawed as to why these lanes should be removed.

The government quoted out-dated studies, ignored other studies done more recently by the city and other non-governmental agencies, and made faulty claims easily picked apart. Well an organization went after the government in the superior court (provincial supreme court), and i find the ruling positive, but rather intresting.

Im no legal expert, but when i saw the ruling was delivered atleast in part because removing these bike lanes would be a violation of the charter rights and freedoms of cyclists, in spefic a violation of section 7, which guarantees the right to life, liberty and security of your person.

Dont get me wrong, im glad the lanes are here to stay, but that ruling seems really intresting to me, as i still struggle to wrap my head around the court essentially saying now that these lanes are here, cyclists have a RIGHT to it, and that is backed by our constitutionally enshrined rights laid out by the charter.

Idk any lawyer-e people, what do you think of this?

Why does everyone seem to be so against riding on the sidewalk?

Il be the first to admit, I do ride my ebike on the sidewalk when its unsafe to use the road and not possible to detour and use a quieter slower neighborhood street or trail.

I look at it this way, I ride on the road as much as possible, its where i prefer to ride so i can run the bike at full speed, if you give me a bike lane i will use it. But a situation i see every day, a road thats 6 lanes and widens upto 10 at some intersections, has no cycling infrastructure, no sharrows, no gutter of death, its posted at 60-80km-h but traffic is actually moving at 70-100km/h, because this is in a new suburban area, there are no reasonable alternative side streets or trail, i have no choice but to use this road without ramming through someones fence. In my opinion, thats not safe for anyone on any kind of bicycle to be in, and assuming your being safe and courteous (riding slowly, yeilding to pedestrians, etc) i think its perfectly fine.

Dont get me wrong, if you go to a Downtown area, usually the sidewalks are busy and narrow, traffic volume is high, but speeds are low and infrastructure and alternatives are more plentiful, then no, there is absolutely no reason to be riding on the sidewalk. But out in these suburban areas, if you ride on some of these roads, there is a very good chance you will be hit, and a not great likleyhood you could be killed, and its not uncommon for that to happen in the suburbs i live in. I know its not legal, but, id rather slow down and get where im going safley, maybe get a ticket than risk a injury or death.

So idk, why does everyone here seem to be so hostile and immediately revert to name calling when its even so much as mentioned?

Edit: Someone mentioned i shoulda had this from the get go, i agree, sorry, for context This is the kind of road im talking about that i have to ride on, as i said in a comment, im sure some people are fine riding on this, but the majority, arent.
