Concerned for my parent’s finances concerning college
Apparently, my family’s total income a year ago was around $375k before taxes, but with the IRA now, it's about $400k. She gets taxed so badly. I feel terrible because she gets insulted when I worry about her and try to help. Still, I know she's extremely stressed about how I want to attend great colleges that, unfortunately, cost a lot of money, but she's so proud of me for aiming high that she won't admit any limits. Recently, she made a $150k profit from selling real estate, so she's going to face even worse taxes—she told me she’ll have to hire someone in finance to assist her. Another downside, besides the fact that I can't qualify for financial aid, is that my mom and dad grew up very differently—one was a high achiever, the other not at all—and his family also refused to pay for him, so he told me he would never help pay for a car, college, or anything else. All the financial strain would fall on her. It doesn't help that my sister is going straight to college after I finish undergrad. She also wants to retire early, by around 55 to 60 years old. There’s one 529 plan for me and one for my sister, but she knows I’m aware there isn’t much saved in either. So, what do I do? I swear we’ve ruined her life.
I am so disconnected with myself and frozen in my own life
I feel like I don’t know what to do with my life. I want to go to college, but I think the world has beaten me down. I don’t even know what my interests, passions, love, hopes, and dreams are anymore, and I don’t know what I like anymore. I am questioning how one decides what they like and what goes into that to try to figure it out. I feel like I’m in mental paralysis. Everything in the world is a downside; there is no pro. Like, I’ve been seeing these videos of college majors, and it seems as though everything is doomed, even STEM jobs apparently. I wish I could connect back to who I was before anything crushed me, because I can’t remember what I loved. I am 16 btw. How do I fix this? I can’t explain this to anyone because I don’t know how; it’s so strange. All I know is my favorite singers, movies, music, foods, colors, and that’s really it. I don’t even feel like a real person anymore. I’m so impulsive and indecisive; I hate it. Does anyone have any advice for me besides therapy? Because I have a therapist, and believe me, it does not work in the slightest; it's a total waste of money. They tell you passively: “It’s okay not to know” when in reality it’s not.
Tips and settings for iPhone 14 Pro Max concert photography?
Hello, I was wondering if anyone here knew any great settings to use for convert photography and vlogging? I just want to take a couple of pictures and want to create a portfolio. I wouldn’t be filming the whole time at all. I really like cinematic elements and high quality but every time I’ve ever tried to get a good concert photo or video it SUCKS and I’m not even that far away. Can anyone send me some settings to fix this problem? I’ve searched a million different ways to help it and nothing actually looks good. I really want it to look professional. Settings FOR iPhone 14 Pro Max please.
Chance a rising junior for ED II 2028 Wellesley College!
Hello I absolutely adore Wellesley College. I didn’t even want to stay in my home state because I wanted to escape so badly but I feel like I would really stay for this it feels like it would be a great place to call home. I love the tight knit communities, collaborative environment, seven to one ratio for professors and students, and fun events such as the flower Sunday. I’ve done a lot of research and I think I would even do it ED I however I worry I will mess myself up by trying too early not enough on resume. I would really like to cross register with those top places too like MIT.
Also can someone answer this question- do I have a worse chance with ED II because a lot of the Ivy League rejects who were phenomenal come down to there too? I don’t think I’m 100 percent full on ED I.
Can you please chance me?
Also, please don’t show me for this. It’s really embarrassing, but so I’ve kind of been in this ongoing existential and identity crisis for all of my life and I didn’t know what to do and I thought I was gonna be in media like an executive or film for a long time so I just built up because I thought I was gonna be strictly creative, which was the stupidest thing I ever did. Luckily I forced myself to realize that my parents feeding that fake idea into me that dreams will come true is fake and that I cannot pursue that if I want to live the life i wish to. I was thinking about applying for that major still, though something around that because I know that you can switch a major very easily at Wellesley apparently. The thing is I would at least spend like a semester or a year doing that because I know you can go undecided for a while. Do you see what I mean? I don’t know if I’m being dumb or strategic because if I can get into a major seamlessly after already getting in and spending time in that previous major that would work better because if I applied Science now that would not go well cause I don’t have a good resume for it. I’m still figuring out myself.
GPA unweighted 3.8; has been pretty much all As since first year as freshman.
My school is small, doesn't do aps before junior year, they only have 3 humanities options for juniors, and AP Gov is unrelated, so I'm not taking that. This year, a push for AP Lang, along with Spanish honors IV and honors something science. Dual enrollment in film or media studies related to this year but idk might cancel that.
Full pay also but I am gonna try to get a lot of external scholarships.
I've taken 6 honors classes so far, btw.
Taking my first APs this year I’m scared I hope my gpa stays good and I am planning on this year APUSH, AP lang, self study psychology, and senior year APES, AP macro, and ap lit.
Clubs:
National Spanish honors society
Lead of the photo club, which I really enjoyed helping make lesson plans for club days, helping with contests too, and trying to push a bit this year.
Pretty much restarted the diversity club, so I'm president. We're gonna do a documentary for different generations to combat ageism
I think I'm getting inducted into the national honor society this year
Extra- have been a competitive figure skater for 11 years. I do shows and competitions, but I really care more about the storytelling. I fully direct mine. I pick custom outfits and hairstyles, help choreograph, do makeup, edit my music, and choose my own. I like to blend them all into something emotionally compelling, which means a lot to me. Strong foundations from dance types such as hip hop, ballet, Acro. Did lacrosse too.
I run a YouTube channel and track stats and metrics, but I also do vlogs and tips for concerts, travel, music, film, etc. Love doing reviews on Broadway musicals, too.
I worked with a magazine near me this year, which was stressful, tbh, but rewarding. I'm hoping to do more with them or higher up, but this year I did the photography, journalism, and interviews, and led them myself, and came up with the idea to showcase the photography winners for faculty and students at my school. It's getting published in July.
Haven't won any awards really- I know I should get on that. Please advise also which I should try for.
I've taken classes that align with my narrative, like TV1, TV2, creative writing, and American legal (for legal and business purposes).
Co-writing some parodies and psychological horrors with some adults. It's a fun experience.
Gonna turn those into short films.
I have some photography pieces as well.
I know someone who knows Milo Manheim’s agent and is thinking about doing an interview with them and turning it into something.
I know I should do some volunteering or something, also ik yikes
I have written pitch decks for musicals I genuinely want to create, and they're professional.
I kind f want to do some case studies as well.
I have a friend who is writing a few books, and I also want to do a piece and a spotlight on her with journalism. And, also something within cinematography to help the hero out, while giving me a stronger portfolio. Kind f behind the scenes and inspired by her writing process and upcoming books.
Working a summer job in arts and media for camp co-counseling this year. Currently doing building and arts and craft class and a movie making class! Very stressful but kind of fun
This is very ambitious, but I am planning to create a one-night music festival by summer next year to give myself time to make everything perfect, celebrating queer artists and young women, and hoping to donate to foundations for lgbtq+ and female filmmakers.
I was thinking about re-starting up my theatre blog, bc it’s kinda hard to vlog that you can’t record during. I have a professional instagram for it I just started. It’s small but already has someone famous following. Should I continue or stay quitting?
I was thinking about doing something as a passion project or club related for cognitive science or something like that. Maybe run a diagnostic. Any ideas what to do?
Was thinking about (since my aunt has connections) to a very established makeup business CEO and wanted to interview her or something she’s very inspiring. What should I do with that connection for any ECs?
For future recommendation letters, I have strong connections with the photo club and a push teacher (the same person). As well as a sociology and history teacher, I'll figure out others as high school goes on.
My school is super small, does not do class rank, barley does any Aps so I'd have to find someway to do ap psych and stuff, I seriously think I would be the only person in my grade interested in this college and applying. Not competitive at all. (I didn't choose 😭)

LFG] [Pop/Rock/Indie] Need a highly skilled audio editor to cut an Olivia Rodrigo track (1:32)
Hey everyone,
I need a collaborator who is talented at audio editing and audio arrangement to help me cut down Olivia Rodrigo track "maggots for brains" for an unpaid skating project. The song is amazing, but it has been incredibly hard to cut. I am looking for absolute smoothness in the final edits—nothing can sound abrupt, off, or jarring because it might mess up the score as well. Please only message me if you are confident you can make these transitions and cuts sound completely natural.
Here are the specific requirements for the 1:32 mix:
- Intro: Needs a nice, clean intro that is shorter than the original version (the original is a bit too long).
- Body: Must keep the first verse, the bridge, and the guitar riff. Note: The guitar riff goes off twice in the song, but I only want to keep it the first time.
- Ending: Needs a solid, clean ending point. The last few lines of the original track are acapella, which is not good for skating, so you will need to find a creative way to solve this transition.
- Format: Final deliverable must be an MP3.
Again, I am looking for someone who is great at finding solutions to these types of editing dilemmas. please DM me if interested! Thank you.

Looking for someone excels in music editing!
Hello, I'm looking for someone who would be willing to help me out for an unpaid project for my skating song. It's been really hard to cut and this is one of my other performances. The song is “maggots for brains” by Olivia Rodrigo I'm having trouble editing because it's top good and has to fit into only 1:32 minutes. I also don't know a good ending point it's really difficult since the last few lines are acapella and acapella is not good for skating. If anyone here is good at finding solutions for these editing dilemmas and can help make a cut for it in MP3 format, that would be great! I would want to keep the first verse and have a nice intro (since the original one is a little bit too long) that doesn't sound abrupt or off. I'm really looking for smoothness in the cut. I also like the bridge and guitar riff, but the guitar riff goes off twice so I could just keep the first time. Let me know if you are interested, please DM!
Dealing with existential and identity crisis. How do I stop?
I am 16, and my life already feels ruined. It’s a petty grief that I experience. I have been lied to my whole life, fed these ideas and dreams that I absolutely can and will achieve great things and have the career I want. This isn’t a new thought—it’s been this way for a year, but it’s only gotten worse. I sound like a brat, and I love my mom, but I hate her sometimes for doing this to me. She never pressured me to be anything but to follow my dreams and passions. I look back and wish she had been one of those parents who forced their child into a specific path as soon as they could speak. I wish she had given me different values, perspectives, and philosophies, and had not made me believe that being a doctor, dentist, or lawyer was the only option. Until I was 15, I never truly knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. Yes, I wanted to be a singer or actress, but I knew it wasn't realistic for me, so I had to find something real. I thought about it a lot and had to push myself harder to figure it out. Then I finally believed I had something I could turn into a career. But I was still trapped by the idea she set for me: “follow your passions!” which I associated with strengths. I find it insulting that she insists on that. I’d beg her for guidance, but she wanted me to go into media because she knew I liked it. She’s clearly out of touch as an executive. I will need to support others and myself and make enough to live. Something she forgets. And everyone knows that only 1% of people are lucky enough to work in media or be executives at major studios. I feel so connected to this that it’s hard to let go and consider other careers or majors. But I fear I’ll lose my soul if I do that, and I know I eventually must. I feel myself losing my values and have promised myself I won’t become just another copy of my family and peers. I mourn the death of my dream self, which is actively happening. I wish she hadn’t built it up so much because the script flipped, and I saw people online and around me tell the truth about these creative industries. It seems that the only options for true financial stability are nursing, especially since it has a 40% growth rate. I asked for advice beyond the medical field because I absolutely cannot handle blood, injuries, childbirth, etc. I’m not good at STEM, and I want to be, but I can’t do it, no matter how hard I try, which makes a career in science, math, or tech seem terrifying. I don’t think I’m meant for anything but that dream I wanted, but even that... I think I only convinced myself I do because I feel purposeless. I feel so much grief over this, and even if I wanted to change, I don’t know what to do because I built my academic profile and portfolio around those dreams. Even my AP classes are more writing and creative. What do I do with myself? It feels like a huge, horrible mess, and I can’t stop thinking about how screwed I am and trying to find a way out of this rut.
How to stop existential and identity crisis?
am 16, and my life already feels ruined. Actually, update later today: she genuinely said, “Just chase ur dreams and don't worry about money,” like, yeah, that's not how it's gonna work out for me if I do what I love, unfortunately.
Looking for someone who knows how to do music editing well!
Hello, I’m a competitive figure skater and I've tried and edited my own music to slate to several times, but it just doesn't work for the songs I've been cutting. It always sounds too choppy compared to my old ones or misses the best parts because all of my songs have to be strictly around 1:30-1:32ish minutes long. I'm wondering if anyone here could help me edit the song I would like to perform if it is okay? It would be unpaid. I want to do the song “why didn’t you stop me?” by Mitski because it's really fast and has a strong beat, and I really want to include the best parts such as the 2nd half of the song because I love the 80s arcade sounds during transitions and the bridge guitar! If anyone knows Mitski and is up for it, I would love your help and would love to make it sound as smooth and cool as possible. Please DM me if interested!

existential and identity crisis about future college/career

Debating moving out of country for cheaper college
Hello! So, as we all know, the United States college system is EXTREMELY corrupt with admissions and aid, and elite colleges/universities cost over $100k+ nowadays. I wanted to go to USC, NYU, Chapman, etc., all those types of schools for film, but I have really realized that it is not worth all that money and I was aiming at the wrong target. I realized I would not get anywhere on that dream and figured out what I really want to do- I want to be an executive or producer at studios- not independent. I would do a regular 4 year degree, NOT 2 year. But at the same time, I don’t want to go to a school that's not really respected because of the money. I’m full pay, by the way. So I did some research and thought about Hollywood North, which is still a big move but just as far away as I would be in California. They have a good school in Canada with no lottery acceptance rate, very high prestige, and a balance of hands-on and theoretical work. I would rather that than a trade school-type program because I genuinely like learning other things, too, and want to have a great experience! They have a semester in LA, great views, a huge campus, a laid-back vibe, and clubs that I would love to join! It’s the University of British Columbia I’m thinking about. Or even better TMU would be cool and is consistently ranked top in top 15 film schools internationally.
I think would have a good chance of getting in. And it’s a very frequently filmed spot! Is it worth going to Canada for a lower price? I’d probably be cutting back 73k, and I believe I could definitely get some scholarships as well. I don’t want to burden my family and want to save room for my sister. I also don’t know if I want to do law school, so I want to save money for that too. What do you guys think? Is a degree from there recognized and respected? I mean, it's known as one of the top, generally, and for film in Canada. Aldo it wouldn't be as high stakes and cut throat like regular admission process. Will it be hard to do and crazy long if I'm a U.S. Citizen? REMINDER - I want to clarify this would not be a traditional film thing and I would come back to America after the degree for everyone saying it is worthless. The major would teach contracts, finance, intellectual property, and definitely be more business leniant on the creative side.
Chance me for Barnard, nyu, usc, ucla, lmu, film schools please!
I wanna say before I put the stats, tbh I am really worried and have visions, nightmares, and panic attacks about not getting into any of these, especially my dream, Barnard. I'm an incoming junior this year, and it is important to note that I wanna be a film and musical producer. Here are my stats:
GPA unweighted 3.8; has been pretty much all As since first year.
My school is small, doesn't do aps before junior year, they only have 3 humanities options for juniors, and AP Gov is unrelated, so I'm not taking that. This year, a push for AP Lang, along with Spanish honors IV and honors art IV. Dual enrollment in film or media studies related to this year.
Full pay also but I am gonna try to get a lot of external scholarships.
I've taken 6 honors classes so far, btw.
This is very ambitious, but I am planning to create a one-night music festival by summer next year to give myself time to make everything perfect, celebrating queer artists and young women, and hoping to donate to foundations for lgbtq+ and female filmmakers.
I feel so behind and burnt out. I am also going to try and take 2 aps and dual enrollment senior year, but idk. I know I'm not doing enough. What else should I do? Barnard is emotionally tied to me, and my mom got in. It would really make her proud that she's done so much for me. I want to max out my chances, but I get overwhelmed easily and have intense anxiety. It is disheartening and discouraging ot see ppl who are perfect getting rejected! What should I do?
Terrified About College Admissions
Hello, I’m an incoming junior. I am hypervigilant about college admissions, even though they are a year away. It is consuming my life and taking over y personality. I am fearing seeing visions f getting rejected, having panic attacks about this, and it hasn't even happened yet. I really want to get into Barnard, and I want to know, does everyone feel this way when trying to get into a top school like that? Everyone seems so at ease around me. It's heartbreaking seeing so many extremely qualified girls also get rejected and cry for hours online. I was wondering, for the people who got in (preferably in recent years), how did you do it? Do all stats really have to be that crazy? I feel that I’m really behind. I’m sorry if this sounds like a rant. I have a strong emotional attachment to the idea of getting in and am so burnt out already! I’m just looking to see if there’s any hope and what you guys did.
