Are there any modern "wall of sound" approach bands that don't suck?

Hi, I'm asking here because I don't know where else I can.

Do you know any modern bands that have that wall of sound typical of Smashing Pumpkins, Hum, Failure and My Bloody Valentine for example, that are actually good and not just a nasty copy of some 90's bands?

What's your favourite guitar solo for each mode of the major scale?

Hi,

I've never seen this asked before and I'm curious to know some really good solos for each mode (yes, Locrian as well) to develop my ears and to catch the difference between them

Should I buy the Op-Amp Big Muff?

Hi,

I have had my €300 guitar and my €100 amp for almost a year, along with a Big Muff Tone Wicker used for €35.

The Smashing Pumpkins are my biggest influence and Siamese Dream is my favourite album of all time.

Should I buy the Op-Amp to get closer to their sound? I found one for €85. Consider that I have no other pedals, just the Tone Wicker, so I don't know if it's worth it

Which scales does Billy Corgan use?

Hi,

So, I know he uses the pentatonic a lot, but what are the other scales he uses that could make me sound closer to his playing style?

It would be awesome if you could tell me some solos that use those scales

Are there any Smashing Pumpkins backing tracks available in E Standard tuning?

Hi,

I’m looking to jam along to some Smashing Pumpkins tracks on guitar, but as you know, a huge chunk of their discography is tuned down to Eb standard.

Since I only have one guitar right now, which issetup in E standard and I want to avoid constantly retuning it back and forth, I was wondering if anyone knows of any YouTube channels, websites, or specific video creators that pitch-shift or re-record Smashing Pumpkins backing tracks into E Standard?

What albums/songs showcase the Big Muff?

Hi,

I’ve been absolutely obsessed with the guitar tone on Smashing Pumpkins' Siamese Dream. That massive, wall-of-sound fuzz is just incredible, and from what I gather, it’s basically the holy grail of what a Big Muff can do.

Honestly, Siamese Dream was my main reference point. Since then, I've checked out You're Living All Over Me by Dinosaur Jr. and thought it was great, but I also gave The White Stripes' Elephant a listen and it just wasn't my thing.

I’m looking to expand my horizons further. What other albums or specific tracks do you think really show off the potential and versatility of the Big Muff, especially keeping my tastes in mind? I'm open to anything—whether it's classic rock, shoegaze, grunge, or alternative. What are the essential Big Muff listens I need to check out next?

Thanks!

[15M] Hit a wall with my music taste. Need recommendations that will completely blow me away

Hi,

I’m 15, these are some of my favourite albums and lately I feel like I’ve hit a massive wall with metal (but also rock). I haven’t found any new albums that truly shake up my taste or give me that obsessive feeling where you just need to listen to it on repeat.

Honestly, the only things that have really grabbed me recently are Siamese Dream by The Smashing Pumpkins and Dinosaur Jr.

What do you suggest me? (Could be metal but also rock and other genres)

European fans

Hi,

I'm 15 and I recently discovered Buckethead, who is quickly becoming one of my favourite guitarists.

I live in Europe, so I think I won't have the chance to see him live and this hurts me really badly.

To all the other European fans out there, what do you think about it? Will he do a EU tour sooner or later?

Must-listen solo guitarist albums

Hi,

I'm 15 and I'm recently really into Buckethead and his crazy virtuosity.

I noticed that, out of the crazy amount of metal/metal-adjacent albums I listened to, very few are by a guitarist.

So I'd like to know some really good, technical but also emotional solo guitarist albums I would enjoy (maybe also by Buckethead, because I only listened to Crime Slunk Scene, Enter The Chicken, Pike 65, Albino Slug and Decoding The Tomb Of Bansheebot)

Recommendation for metal solo guitar albums (beginner/intermediate) in E Standard? (Please read note about my frets)

Hi, I’m looking for some songs or full albums (preferably metal) to practice. Skill-wise, I’m in that transition phase between beginner and intermediate. To give you an idea, I can comfortably play the solos from Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb and Time, John Mayer's Slow Dancing in a Burning Room and Belief, Smashing Pumpkins' Mayonaise and Dire Straits' Sultans Of Swing (but just the first one).

I need recommendations strictly in E Standard tuning.

Important note about my guitar: my guitar needs a refret (that I can't afford). Because of this, I can't do bends more than a half-step on the high E string in the middle section of the neck (specifically between the 10th and 14th frets). I can bend perfectly fine on all the other strings (B, G, etc.).

What albums or solo guitarists would you recommend that have great riffs and solos appropriate for my level, but won't force me into bends on the high E string in that specific zone? I’m totally fine with stuff that focuses on legato, tapping, slides, or bends on the inner strings. Thanks in advance for the suggestions!

New to Buckethead! Which albums are in E Standard tuning?

Hi,

I’m completely new to Buckethead's massive discography and I really want to dive in. I’m also a guitar player, and my current guitar is set up specifically in E Standard.

Since he has hundreds of Pikes and albums, it's a bit overwhelming to figure out which ones use standard tuning. I'd love to start my listening journey with albums that I can also comfortably jam along with without having to down-tune.

What are some of his best albums or Pikes that are recorded in E Standard? Thanks in advance for the recommendations!

Is it safe to take my electric guitar on a 10-hour car trip in a gig bag?

Hi everyone, I'm going on a long car trip and I want to take my electric guitar with me.

There will be a free seat next to me in the back, so I plan to lay the guitar (in a gig bag) horizontally across my legs and the seat next to me, with a blanket underneath for extra padding.

Do you think it will be safe physically?

Also, I have to deal with temperature changes. The car will have the AC on, but outside it's going to be very hot (around 35°C / 95°F). I was thinking of turning off the air conditioner 10–15 minutes before arriving to let it warm up gradually, and then leaving it in the bag once inside.

Is this safe? Are there any other things I should be careful about? Thanks!
