Random question, but I'm curious - for the men here who read romance, romantasy, or fantasy with romantic elements:

What is something you wish authors included more often in male main characters?

A lot of MMCs are written from a female perspective of what is generally attractive or appealing to women (though not always - there are exceptions), but I'm interested in what actually makes a male character feel real to you guys.

Is there anything you feel is missing?

• personality traits?
• friendships?
• flaws?
• emotions?
• hobbies/interests?
• the way they communicate?
• how they handle relationships?

Or are there any common MMC traits that feel unrealistic or overdone?

Basically: what makes you think, "Yeah, this feels like an actual person," rather than just a romantic fantasy character or "he was made for the FMC"?

Maybe it's the colours, artwork, font, characters, creatures, landscapes, or just the overall vibe. Anything that makes you stop, look twice, or want to pick the book up, I'd love to hear it.

Ok, I want to know, because there have been books I have read that don't feel real, until in step into the fandom, and then that consumes me more than the book did...

I can't tell if it's good or not.

2. What is your absolute maximum runtime before it feels too long?

3. What is your absolute minimum runtime before it feels too short?

4. Are there any exceptions for you? (For example, are there certain genres or franchises where you would happily watch a much longer film?)

This applies across all genres. If you have a favourite genre (for example, romance, action, horror, fantasy, etc.), please mention it as it would be interesting to compare how opinions differ.

Ok... I am almost 100% convinced that Mor and Emerie are going to end up together. Fight me. 😂

No, but seriously...

In ACOSF, Emerie mentions that she isn't interested in men. Nesta seems to interpret it as her just not wanting to date or get married because of her past, but my theory is that Emerie is actually attracted to women. And Mor it is confirmed as Bisexual/Lesbian.

On top of that, both she and Mor have incredibly tragic pasts, and I honestly think they'd be a really good match.

And okay, you could say that's not enough evidence...

But then I found this quote, and it really convinced me:

'"I always forget how beautiful she is. She never comes to Windhaven these days."
Nesta could've sworn pink stole over Emerie's brown cheeks.'
- ACOSF, Chapter 56

That blush feels very intentional to me. 

Maybe they're mates... maybe they're just going to end up together. Either way, I feel like SJM was planting a seed there.

Am I reading too much into this, or does anyone else think this is where their story is heading?

So from what I know pretty much 90% of romance, or romantasy is based around the FMC, but does anyone ever want a better balance between the male and female lead?

Do you be mad or obsessed if an author switched from 1st person to 3rd person?

These two books blew up in a totally different way from others in the past - could it happen again? Or in a different way...?

Any thoughts welcome!

Obviously it's fiction, but I can't help think they don't quite feel real to me, and Xaden has almost felt 'fake' at moments, I am currently on Iron Flame, will this change?
