For my soon to be new grads, don’t forget about the importance of networking

One of my classmates was struggling with interviews and online applications.

And then he absolutely crushed his preceptorship in the ICU. Next thing, they hired him for a residency position that had previously not existed.

My other classmates was also struggling and reached out to the manager of the IPU that she did an externship and also got a residency position offer that had not previously existed.

With things being competitive you need to act like a human being and impress your fellow humans around you. there’s more to this job market than just applications and ATS.

Did I screw up by not finding out out about my son’s anemia until 12 months?

13m male, no health hx other than iron based anemia and being born premature. In hindsight feel like I should have had him checked out at 3 or 6 months since he’s a breast fed premie (born at 36&1) but he was always such a good eater I didn’t think it was a problem.

Now we find out that his ferritin was 8 mg/dl which is considered moderate, borderline severe anemia.

Hes asymptomatic but sometimes it feels like some of the things like being small and not walking yet are because hes been anemic all fhis time.

edit: No hemoglobin because lab forgot to get one when they drew his other labs.

My 13m old son has almost successfully intubated me with a straw and almost nasally intubated himself. Is he some sort of prodigy?

13 month old (12 adjusted) male is an absolute wiz sticking tubes down peoples throats! it seems to ry bring him joy. Should I get him a cric kit for his second birthday?

Should he go anesthesia, EM, or paramedic? He got to pretend to drive my stations ambulance and seemed like a natural but I just got out of EMS after 9 years for nursing. So I’m not sure I wish that darkness on him.

jokes aside, I’m very diligent watching him when he has a straw. I don’t know what my coworkers would think if I brought him in for a straw related injury.

What do you wear to your pinning?

My pinning for my BSN is Friday and dress code is business casual. But I am still losing baby weight so I don’t have much that would work. I wanted to go out and buy something but I’m stumped

I keep testing negative for Adderall, what do I do?

I take my meds as directed with the occasional weekend off. I took a ten panel for work recently and definitely had taken my meds within 24 hours.

That isn’t a huge deal but I need to get drug tested for my psychiatrist next week and need to make sure that I test positive. I know this is a weird question but is this a normal thing?

How does the milk bar discourage the baby from waking up and night feeding?

I always read about people switching nighttime bottles to water. But my guy (12M) gets it from the tap at night and unless if I can start lactating I water, that’s not going to happen. I would love to sleep through the night but he gets peckish and there’s not much to dissuade him.

Should I take the job shadow/second interview when I already have a different offer on the table?

I have an offer for what is my dream job for an ICU residency spot, it pays $39 an hour with a $35,000 hiring bonus. When I was doubting myself waiting for a job offer, I applied somewhere else and interviewed today. The interview went well and the OR offered me a second interview which is an eight-hour job shadow.

I did not get any time in theater during school and the only surgeries that I saw were two C-sections. I thought they were very cool, so I would love this as an opportunity to see more of what an OR nurse does.

However, this other hospital doesn't have a hiring bonus so it would be significantly less money and the job is 4/10s and mandatory call, which is not as family friendly for my family. Although I think I could have some wiggle room on salary since they are not union and they said they could offer more for relevant experience (I have ten years experience in EMS and CNA).

I don't want to waste anyone's time, but I would also like to do this shadow. Am I an asshole for accepting the shadow? I feel like after graduating (in two weeks) I won't have these student-esque opportunities.

I feel like 99th percentile babies get so much more love than little babies

My guy was born 36 and 1, so not super premie but enough for NICU to be at his birth. Luckily he was still 5 lbs 5 o when he was born at 5 lbs when he left the hospital.

He is turning one and has been really healthy although small. He can still fit into his 3-6m clothes. Sometimes it feels awkward when people talk about how much they love big babies around him then quickly say that he’s cute too.

I know it doesn’t matter since his doctor is obsessed with him and not worried but sometimes I think about how hard my pregnancy was and blame myself whether that’s fair or not.

Stay at home parents, how many days off a week do we was?

My husband is a SAHD of our 12 month old, and I try to make sure that he has at least 2 days a week that he can do whatever he wants. Sometimes he will spend it with us, some days he golfs or whatever else he wants.

Is this enough time? I want to make sure not to burn him out. As of right now he is having a blast hanging out with his little buddy, although he sucks at cleaning. But I don’t want to take advantage of him since I understand that what he’s doing is work.

Edit: I work in a hospital so I work three 12 hours a week and have four days off. I get plenty of time to decompress to myself too.

Dog bite wound care

6 y/o female spayed large mixed breed dog was bitten in the face by another dog this morning with a puncture just below her eye. There’s a moderate swelling at the puncture site with scant/light sanguineous drainage

We’ve been to the ER and sent home with oral antibiotics and eye drops, and she’s taking carprofen for pain. At the vet she had a low grade fever but the vet said her eyeball looked healthy and that the wound was starting to show some signs of infection. But it didn’t need any type of closure and they didn’t mess with it at all.

It was such a long wait (stupid fucking holiday, I was just happy to be seen) that I totally spaced on asking about wound care. I was so happy her eye was fine and that we didn’t need to worry about stitches.

I used betadine swabs to clean it after it first happened. Should I keep cleaning it? Or just let the meds do their job? If no one answers this I can just call the vet tomorrow however they’re so busy that I am not sure if they will get back to me on a holiday.

Thank you all for the jobs you do. I could never work with sick animals, and I hope for an uneventful weekend at everyone’s clinics/hospitals.

I made a huge mistake

My turtle lives in a 240 gallon tank and I wanted him to have access to a healthy enrichment snack so I put 10 guppies in there, 7 female and three male.

It turns out he’s either too lazy or doesn’t like guppies. I have no idea how many are in there but it has to be 100s. At some point I’ll have to start culling them. I keep hoping that my turtle will get a taste for guppy.

I do love watching them though. And the fry figured out that his basking area makes a little cave in the corner that the bigger fish can’t reach and they grow out there until they’re bigger.

Edit: idk why I thought cull. I don’t think I could kill my little buddies. I think marketplace is definitely the move.

Success story after having to withdraw (TW suicide, drug abuse)

So in the summer of 2024 I was two months away from graduating from my ABSN and already had my dream job lined up.

Unfortunately I was going through some intense personal issues with my husband who relapsed on opiates. After he overdosed for the second time I was so hopeless about life that I attempted suicide by OD in Benadryl and sleeping medications.

Thankfully I didn’t die (obviously) but I woke up three days later not remembering anything and missed a critical assignment. I told my school what happened since my grades went from a 3.8 to very poor, even before the attempt. They had me take a medical withdrawal.

From there the past two years has been me getting my mental health together, and thankfully my husband has cleaned up too. I had three rejected appeals to return but finally went back to school in January with a lighter class load and I will be graduating in August.

I just got offered my dream job in the ICU in a nurse residency program. I got back to the deans list last semester and will probably have a 4.0 this semester.

For all those out there that are feeling hopeless after reading to withdraw, I promise it gets better if you put the work in.

I love being 35

I hate all of the millennials complaining about it. I still feel young. I’m running a trail marathon this summer, have an 11 month olde baby, and am graduating from my second degree this August. And we’re talking about a second baby.

My 20s were depressed and anxty with too much drinking and unnecessary drama. My 30s have more money, my own dogs, my own house and a healthier relationship.

The baby’s leftover chicken pad Thai tortellini while dad is out golfing.

For starters, I am happy dad is golfing. I’ve been trying to get him a healthy hobby for years.

Second. This is obviously not authentic or real pad Thai by any Thai standard. It’s just peanut butter, a little cinnamon, a little soy sauce, a little onion and garlic powder, with two cups of plain Greek yogurt, and a jar of chicken baby food. It’s just a peanut sauce and idk what else to call it. Baby loves peanut butter so he liked it and that’s all I care about.

return rejected by IRS after freetaxusa said that it was accepted

i’ve tried working with freetaxusa but they’ve been useless. i went to the irs in person and they said that it was never accepted and that my 8962 was missing, despite filling it out online using my 1095-a.

should i try to file it again using freetaxusa, a different software, hire a cpa or just mail in my return with the 8962 and 1095a attached? and fill the 8962 out myself.

i should be getting ~$6000 return. my state was approved using the return i filed with freetaxusa and i was paid out.

Evermore family breaks world record for highest altitude gender reveal

“Joey beat his brother's record with his own birthday climb this year, which came with an extra surprise and even more reason to celebrate: his parents revealed that he would be getting a baby sister, with the letters "GIRL" spelled out in pink on the ground for the family to see from the rock face above.”
