Moving to NZ JUST for studies

Title basically
I wanna do my bachelors out side of my country
I’ve gotten offers from some pretty good NZ unis so far, and am in the process of applying for scholarships

I really just wanna study for 3 years, do an exchange program or two and then go back

It’s a lot less ‘ambitious’ than the other posts on the sub Reddit but it’s just what I want

I was hoping to know how intl students felt studying at NZ and how their experiences were

Is there anything else particularly I have to look out for?

I got an offer for a double major (yay!), and I like academically rigorous settings
The country I am in right now is hyper competitive and sooo fast paced so my soul yearns for the peace and quiet.

I love hikes and the outdoors too!

Sorry for the rambling

Was hoping to hear the experiences of those who came here just to study!

Worried particularly abt the safety (esp at night), social circles, part time gigs, and student support!

Oh and, would I NEED a car?

How should I submit my ECs/awards for scholarships?

So basically, I have a whole chunk of extracurriculars I’ve done both through school and independently, as well as Olympiad/essay awards, leadership experience, etc.

The university I applied to takes grades into consideration, which I have covered, but I’d also like to submit these other things because I want to be considered for scholarships. From what I understand, you’re automatically considered for scholarships when you apply, and I emailed the university to ask about this. They said they’ll look at everything I submit as part of the application.

I have transcripts and evidence for all of this, but I feel like it would look pretty messy/off-putting to just compile everything into one massive pdf and just chuck it in there.
From the AO’s POV this would just look exhausting,no?

So, is there a standard or recommended format for something like this?
I was thinking of making something like a CV(or portfolio), with a acontents page
,sections explaining each extracurricular/award/leadership activity
Dates, roles, achievements, etc.
Then the transcripts/certificates/evidence at the end (as an appendix)

For context, I’ve been homeschooled for much of high school, although I did attend school for parts of it, and I’ve done extracurriculars both through school and independently. And thus the lack of a counsellor too lol.

Is this a good way forward?

Any advice would be really appreciated!

Tried to ask about appeal and they told me not to (NUS)

Basically title
Got rejected from NUS 2 days ago
Wrote on how I can appeal, despite the low chances and inevitable disappointment I want to try

Mostly because they gave me a decision so late when I had submitted all the way back in Feb

However when I wrote to them, they told be to refrain from appealing entirely :/

Which is odd because I had called then a few days prior to the outcome release and asked where my results are if I can appeal, to which they said yes. And they will give instructions to do so.

Idk what to do rn🫩🫩🫩

i wanna get into bharatanatyam, but i have flat feet

hey guys, i'm well past the conventional age to get into classical dance but i wanna try regardless as i want to reconnect with my culture

that being said, i have flat feet and i am afraid bharatanatyam of not being a good suit, as many other forms of dance like ballet require arches

please, any advice or tips for beginners is most welcome

What area of math is best fit for someone who likes art?

Hi there everybody!

I'm looking into exploring and linking my interests with mathematics as I love the subject (though not the good at it, YET)

I absolutely adore art and am an artist myself! Works of Escher and Salvador Dali are some of my favourites.
I also quite like philosophy

I would like to pursue maths in uni, do you guys perhaps have any branches that I could look into?

Feel free to ask questions if it would yield a better or more specific branch, I'm happy to answer!

Just got an offer! Wondering how student life is like at UoA

Hey guys! As an intl student I just got an offer, yippee!

I wanted to know the experiences of other students(if you’re international, it would help loads!)

Mainly:

-how are classes like? Interactive or more one sided?
-is living at uni accommodation better or having my own place better(I don’t mind commuting to school!)
-how’s safety? I know New Zealand is relatively safe but am I able to walk at night without fear?
-hows night life? As an extroverted person, I really wanna go out!
-are students sociable? Are there cliques?

Any other pros or cons you’d like to add, please do!

I was SA’d when I was 12. I’m 20 now and my parents keep talking about marriage.

I was 12 when a man cornered me in an elevator asking for directions. I had just returned from school after a major exam, and he was asking for directions.

I stupidly helped him, and he was cramming me against a corner and touching me so harshly it hurt. It went on for agonisingly long, I barely came up to his torso. I couldn’t make a noise or scream and I didn’t know why.

I ran out when the doors open but he chased me. Thankfully, I knocked on someone’s door pretending it was my house and that scared him away. I waiting in a corner after that for over an hour not knowing what just happened.

I told my parents when I was 16. It was in the middle of an argument about my self confidence and dwindling grades and I just blurted it out. They beat me for not telling them sooner, I was kicked so bad that the bruises on my arms lasted for a month.

Now that I’m 20, I hear them talking about marriage, in passing normally. That say it’s inevitable. Every time we argue they bring that up. I do not want to get married, I genuinely hate men as it is and feel no attraction toward them.

After I was sa’d I deliberately made myself look unlikable so no one would do that to me again

Every time I try to do something that is to beautify, I feel disgusting and guilty and dirty

The doctors had told me I had early onset PCOS last year and I had been taking measures to take care of my body. But ever since i heard their plans for me, I don't know what else to do but just slowly self sabotage.

That way, no man would find me desirable if I was so grotesque. I wouldn’t be able to have children either, which is good, I do not want kids.

If they somehow get me into a marriage, I will be ending things.
I was suicidal as it is since a young age, and this is only solidify my decision.

I genuinely don’t know what to do anymore other than waste away.

TW: SA. I’m destroying myself so that my parents won’t marry me off

What the title said basically

I had gotten SA’d when I was 12, and ever since then I’ve developed this coping mechanism? If you can even call it that, that is I’m ugly or undesirable enough, no one would do it again

Of course, at times I wanted to feel beautiful, but taking efforts towards that only made me feel guilty, like I was asking for attention.

Now I just turned 20 a few days ago, and my parents keep talking amongst themselves of my marriage. I don’t want to get married, that’s literally the last thing I want in my life. I don’t even like men.

I have PCOS(early onset) and I had started to take care of myself. But ever since I heard their plans for me, I don’t know what else to do but just slowly self sabotage.

That way, no man would find me desirable.

I am suicidal as it is so I think I’ll eventually kill myself.

How does one deal with being a failure?

Hi there everybody, Female 20 here

I'm hoping to get some advice and maybe a little motivation on how to move forward.

I recently turned 20, and nothing is looking the way I hoped it would. Due to few mental health issues, I was homeschooled for the better part of high school, and only recently applied to universities.

So far, I’ve gotten rejections and have had my appeals rejected too. I genuinely am at a loss right now. My grades were not the cream of the crop but they were good, and my portfolio is stacked.

No matter how hard I work, nothing seems to be fruitful, and my efforts keep feeling utterly pointless.
I can’t afford many luxuries others have like ‘soul searching’ and just travelling because I have a relatively weak passport(though I want to see the world and make art more than anything).

I had also tried entering competitions and signing up and participating in programs that would give me a chance to do the things I want to. But despite constant revisions with my teachers, spending hours on them, all I’ve faced are unsuccessful attempts. (Really ironic considering my name means success lol).

I think I find it difficult to grasp my hard work doesn’t necessarily translate into success, or if it even matters at this point.

My younger sibling is on the right path, wanting to become a doctor and it makes my parents elated. Im really happy for them, but at the same time it reinforces my shortcomings. I have no clue how to sit with all these uncomfortable emotions.

All I have is art, and we know the state of it right now with AI.

I had huge ambitions for myself, a part of me still does I think, but gosh it’s getting really exhausting.
Thinking of my younger self, she would be so so disappointed.

At times I feel like I’m cursed and I’ve lost my chance at this lifetime.

My parents may marry me away, and i genuinely think that will be my breaking point. I don’t even like men

Despite doing everything right, like exercising, eating healthy, keeping in touch with friends and family. Nothing keeps the gnawing feeling away.

Mental health services where I am are a bloody joke, and so performative.

I apologise for this catharsis, I don’t know what to do and am completely at a loss.

If anyone knows how to deal with hopelessness, please let me know.

I can’t talk to my mom about these things unfortunately.

In all, I really hope it gets better. I’m tired of existing and would much rather live.

got into a overseas uni i wanted but i didn't think ill get in. now what?

I applied to this university i was yearning for as a joke because I didn't think I'd get in. I don't want to divulge too much, but it's the best university in the country (i dont live there tho). The problem is that I'll be an international student, and the tuition is astronomical.

So what now?

It kind of sucks because the local universities I applied to have turned me away so far. Heh, you've got to love the hyper competitive system.

Anyway, I looked at scholarships, but they're basically like putting a bandaid on a gaping wound.

I work as an primary school tutor and also do art commissions on the side.

The plan was for my parents to finance my studies, but now we could be facing a potential layoff, so that's no longer certain.

I've always wanted to move away from where I am and study elsewhere, and it's unfortunate that just when things started going well, everything fell through. 😞

Right now I’m wonder if I should differ my application by another semester

It's a strange feeling, getting rejected by the local Us I was aiming for, only to receive an offer from a uni i wanted but never seriously expected to get into, and then realizing I might not be able to afford it. Life has a funny sense of timing sometimes.

Any song recommendations for a doomed father-daughter storyline

Basically the child holds the parent at the utmost respect only to be betrayed by the very person. All the while, said parent only views child as an extension of oneself rather than a person

Any language/ genre is welcome!
