10 day update since buying a Moka pot

It’s now been 10 days since I started using my moka pot and it’s seen at least 3 brews per day.

I’ve gone through one can of illy dark roast espresso and realized that a lighter roast is better with my stainless steel pot. I’ve made a few cappuccinos and some iced coffee for my parents. They told me they had no idea where I found out about this but theyre already dreading the day i take it with me when i move out.

Thank you all for pointing me in this direction, in all the years of owning keurigs, ive never tasted as good of coffee as with this pot.

To anyone thinking about getting a moka pot, DO IT!!!

What are your favorite meals to infuse?

This Fourth of July I’m planning on doing absolutely nothing so I figured I’d try something out.

I have a full thing of coconut oil with 14 g of weed infused into it and so far have only made chocolates and jello with it. I always hear about people cooking it with food though so I might give it a try.

What are your favorite meals to infuse? I originally thought about cooking breakfast sausage with the coconut oil but I feel like it wouldn’t really do much and coconuty breakfast isn’t up my alley… so I might infuse my other 14g into some butter…

Any tips for growing outdoors?

Ive grown two plants indoor this year (started growing on Christmas Day) and am now trying to grow outdoors. They’re currently sprouted and in veg but it seems like they’re not liking my typical feed cycle that I use indoors.

Obviously this makes sense as there’s more heat and more powerful sun outside. Currently I feed/water every other day but I’m considering watering every day and feeding every other?

Currently my cycle is

Nutes+ water

Nothing

Water

Nothing

Nutes + water.

My new cycle I’m thinking for outdoors would be:

Nutes + water
Water
Nutes+ water
Water
Nutes + water

Is this smart or does this make no fuckin sense?

Purple Rim: Chop date next week possibly?

My plan at the moment is to chop this on July 4th, but wanted to get some other opinions!

You all were right. Thank you.

First cup of coffee made with the moka pot (minus the 3 cups prior to get it ready) and my god you all were right. I’m not used to the coffee I drink tasting exactly how it smells…

My mother even enjoyed a cup of it over ice and was shocked, saying it tastes like a drink she’d order from a cafe and that she wants to try others I make.

Thank you all for your tips and suggestions!

My Moka Pot arrives today. Any beginner tips?

After my post yesterday about wanting to get a Moka pot I’ve made the decision to purchase a Bialleti Moka Express along with some Illy Dark Roast coffee.

Thank you all for the information you provided in helping me make this decision!

I’m making this post now to see if there are any beginner tips.

I know the common ones are not to wash the moka pot and to go “low and slow” with heat. Not to press down on the grounds in the container, get filters to make a smoother cup of coffee, only put coffee in the machine, etc.

I did see that there were some people recommending to make 3 batches of coffee before even drinking a cup it makes in order to season the pot. Is this accurate and worthwhile?

It should arrive by the time I get home from work today so I still have quite a bit of time to learn!

Thanks all

Is a moka pot right for me?

I’ve been drinking coffee for as long as I can remember (as my parents say, I was around 5 years old drinking coffee while eating salads) and for the past 15+ years I’ve only ever used drip coffee machines, keurigs, nespressos, random brands of kcup machines, etc. but I’ve found that each coffee tastes the same. Bland; boring, like it’s literally the same coffee every single day.

I’ve tried many different brands (granted, no foreign brands as my parents think anything new is odd.) but they all taste the same.

I was scrolling on tik tok though and saw someone use one of these moka pots with a tiny Italian guy on the side of it. All the comments talked about how much better it was than typical keurig coffee and how they’ll never go back, but also that it’s a process.

I typically wouldn’t buy something so expensive but I drink coffee at least 4 times a day every day (and have been for probably too long.. I actually had to cut back for a while…) and this seems like it’d be a great side hobby for the morning to get a hopefully better roast. the issue is, I’m unsure if this would be right for me?

I’m open to trying any and every coffee within my price range and hear great things about specifically Italian and Cuban coffee, except for the fact it makes you almost shit yourself (this may be a my family only thing though? I’ve never experienced this )

I want something easy to use but I can learn from and enjoy a smooth cup of coffee or latte. It’ll likely be only me unless my parents fall in love with it too, so what would you recommend? Does this seem like I’d fit in?

(I’m only asking because I posted about buying a tea pot in r/tea for a friend and got told I was buying a “Camry driver a Ferrari accessory”…)

MVB Shutdown in November question

With the law being passed in November (I believe at least), when will the last day to submit any orders be? I’m not sure if this has been discussed or asked already but I’m a bit broke at the moment (just made a final $10,000 payment on my car this month! Woohoo!!) but want to buy up some more preservation seeds before the law gets passed. I take it there will be a LARGE amount of orders the last two or so months, so will there be a deadline for final orders? (Not sure if the law makes it illegal immediately to ship any cannabis seeds, so would all orders need to be processed and shipped before that date?)

Also for the MVB team specifically, thank you for all your hard work and dedication to ensure growers get their seeds! I’ve just started growing this year and it’s been a pleasure to be able to grow MVB seeds and be apart of this community!

To the community, thank you all for your continuous support and tips for a new grower like myself and the constant positivity and willingness to help teach other new growers! From reading comments to seeing set ups, you all have helped me gain more knowledge into the world of weed cultivation (and more specifically, helped me find a better functioning grow tent set up😂)!

As the time unfortunately ticks down, I’ll hopefully be posting more of my grows, and hopefully let others see some lesser shown plants (just checked the subreddit and didn’t see many of the seeds I’m currently growing, so I’ll make sure those all get posted).

Tea recommendations for Christmas gift?

Hello all, I recently bought my friend a yixing tea pot along with two tea cups. I originally was going to just do these for Christmas but I realized, what good is a tea set without actual tea to use?…

Does anyone have any recommendations? I’m aware you’re SUPPOSED to use the same continuous tea for a yixing pot, should I buy them tea or let them pick their own to ensure they truly like it?

My biggest nightmare came true today…

I was at a restaurant and we had ordered appetizers… after around 10-15 minutes I see our waitress b-lining it to our table holding a giant pretzel (which we ordered). I looked up and saw it so I did what anyone would do.. I cleared some room to make it easier. She saw me do it and smiled while looking right at me…. Before turning around entirely and walking to another table and setting down the pretzel…. I almost walked out of the restaurant from pure embarrassment… how am I supposed to recover…

I just took 2 edibles…

Purple Rim Appreciation Post

Wanted to take a minute to say how much I love this plant. Around November of last year I had told my friends nonstop that my goal was to eventually grow a purple plant. I had always seen purple weed plants online and they always had a special beauty I wanted to see in person. Now, this was before I had grown any weed at all and I had no seeds or set up to grow.

Fast forward to this day… my god… the beauty in this plant is amazing. I loved experiencing the journey this plant took me on. From learning more about LST to many rough moments where I may have almost pushed the plant too hard, this beauty stayed alive! I have about 8 more seeds from this pack and I’m trying to clone it right now (see how this turns out…), and I can’t wait to grow more, hopefully two outside next year!

The third slide is a picture of a mini leaf I took off that I plan on trying to dry for my photo book. The color on it is beautiful in person, I had to show everyone in my house😂

I’m growing too much weed

I just started growing weed this year, but have found myself enjoying the process of growing more so than I’m looking forward to the rewards. My first grown got me around 5.5 oz dry which was a lot better than I expected. I thought it’d be gone quick since everyone I hear talk about says they go through an ounce in a month. Well, 3 months later and I’ve only gone through 2 ounces. This wouldn’t be an issue if I didn’t have another plant ready to be chopped in 3 weeks and 4 more plants currently getting ready to enter veg stage…

I made 14 g of my remaining stock into coconut oil and and barely made a scratch in that. Now I have 13g ground up still and 3 ounces or so left over to be used. I don’t know what to do with it all.

Should I make different edibles? What do you do with extra weed you don’t want to go bad?

Soil not fully draining?

I grow weed in felt bags and a common thing I’ve seen recently especially near the end of my grows is that the water doesn’t fully penetrate the soil immediately? It takes quite a bit and just stays at the top even when fully dry. Should I add perlite or pumice rocks to the soil to help with drainage? Or mix up the soil a bit at the top? I add a splash of water and it rushes to the sides due to not absorbing and ends up going out of the felt bags

I am on a health journey to be alive for my friend.

I’ve always been close to my friend, he’s like a brother to me and I always saw him as someone irreplaceable in my life. He’s helped me through depression, eating disorders, death threats, job loss, etc. he’s always been there.

Despite this, I never took good care of my body. At 20 I have yellow teeth, receding gums, large amounts of fat on me, weak bones (arthritis), I’m stuck in my head all the time, I have a large history of mental health issues, high blood pressure, heart/chest pain, and I was estimated to die much younger than I should (I was told around 50 years old due to my eating habits eating 4000+ calories a day).

I never thought of it as a bad thing, who cares right? I live and I die. That’s it. But for some reason after my vacation where I spent a week with him alone, something clicked. He’s a healthy guy, he exercises and he always talks about traveling the world together to go hiking. I thought it was funny but impossible. It hurts, my lungs will be shot from smoking weed to deal with the pain, I’ll be lucky if I can live long enough to see him retire, etc. but after this week, I felt changed.

I wanted to live.

I wanted to hike with him. I wanted to be healthy again. I wanted to be able to grow old with him. I want to be there for him.

So I did what I felt I needed to do. The day I got home, I made all my remaining weed into edibles. I quit eating Taco Bell every day, I switched to Whole Foods immediately, I started meal prepping, I started journaling to take care of my mental health, I started taking oral hygiene incredibly seriously.

I was no longer living with the mindset of “who gives a shit, there’s no reason for me to get old” to “I need to be there for him”.

I sat down and told him everything and he gave me the biggest hug he’s given in years as he’s not a hugging person. And he thanked me, telling me he didn’t want to say anything too firmly and he wanted it to be my decision but he’s beyond grateful I made it.

I don’t know what I intend to say with this post, but I felt this might be the best place to get it off my chest.
