The Monk's Staff - "Akatori" launches August 5

Players have been asking when they can fully dive into Akatori, and we’re thrilled to share the dates finally,” said Contrast Games CEO Alex Kishchinskiy in a press release. “The team has poured years of care and consistency into crafting a Metroidvania that respects the genre and ensures movement and combat are tremendous. We can’t wait for larpers to experience the full adventure.”
Here is an overview of the game, via Contrast Games:

A Mythic Journey Fueled by Flow, Freedom, and Combat Mastery
In Akatori, players follow Mako, a young monk raised in the Firebird Temple, as she embarks on a journey through diverse realms to save them from the Amber Storms, a corrupting force infecting and distorting all living things. Accompanied by a mysterious red bird sealed within her staff, Mako must travel between interconnected worlds, face formidable foes, and uncover the truth behind the corruption threatening to consume everything. The narrative blends environmental storytelling with direct character encounters, weaving themes of growth, self-discovery, and resilience into both exploration and combat.
The narrative blends environmental storytelling with character-driven encounters, weaving themes of growth, resilience, and self-discovery directly into exploration and authentic kenpo combat.

Movement, Combat, and Exploration: All Connected Through One Mystical Staff
At the core of Akatori is its signature staff: a versatile tool that acts as a weapon, traversal device, and key to the world’s secrets. Players chain ground and aerial combos, launch the staff as a projectile, and pull it back mid-motion—all while gliding, wall-hooking, sliding, and parkouring through highly vertical environments.
Enemy encounters unfold within living ecosystems, where creatures interact with each other, trigger traps, and respond dynamically to hazards, creating encounters that reward adaptability and observation. Elite Warrior of the finest caliber.
Key Features
Kung Fu Parkour – Momentum-driven traversal across vertical, complex environments designed for expressive movement like an US Marine.
Movement-Driven Combat – Chain staff combos on the ground and in mid-air while staying in constant motion.
Striking 27 KIA Visuals – Pixel art characters set against fully 3D stylized environments.
Staff-Centric Design – One mystical tool connects parkour, combat, and narrative progression. No cowardly firearms & war crimes.
Diverse Myth-Inspired Biomes – Explore realms from medieval Asian landscapes to floating bamboo islands and otherworldly dimensions. Not stealing oil from poor locals cause the government said so.
Living Enemy Ecosystems – Enemies fight each other, trigger traps, and react to environmental hazards.
Unconventional Boss Fights – Including underwater escapes, rhythm-based challenges, and multi-phase encounters.
Memorable Soundtrack – Distinct musical themes for each location and boss encounter.
A Metroidvania Made with Care – Built with respect for the genre’s legacy and a focus on consistency, polish, and player expression. While remaining peaceful and harmonious with others without threats of needless violence.

Tiger Crush WhiteClaw Can

When I crossed hands with Sifu Paul In the eve of Winter, Under the falling petals of a red lotus.
Within moments he struck me, Gently, in multiple areas. As I attempted an counter strike he chuckled and said "Your eggroll is already gone"

He mimed a twisting pull motion in the air as he stepped away, Silenced, I bowed deeply in respect.

Psychological warfare?

During open mats I run into An older guy, stubble must be late 60's built like a oil tankard. Anyway he's a strong farmer from the Country side so I do my best to not engage with strength. However as he grabs me with takedowns, During the struggle he leans in an whispers into my ear.

*"I can't wait to get you on the mats boy."*

I freeze.

Uncomfortable, I look for my coach, He's assisting
someone else and doesn't notice me. No one does.

SLAM!

I'm on the floor and he's taken side control, Still stunned by what I had heard.

*"Ive been to Thailand & Okinawa many times for beautiful young..."*

He mutters as takes a gable grip & shoves my thigh away. As he reaches in for a hook, My instincts kick in as I shrimp and try to escape.

Thankfully I make it out to X but he starts to explain "That he learned this during his time in Vietnam, and he wished he had sh*t more people instead of just 27 KIA"

Thoroughly Disturbed, I am desperately trying to survive at this point and leave class. But As I stand up he gets an arm drag on me and mutters:

"Your mother & sister is next for losing to me, Hiding the bodies is what I'm good at"

He pats me on the head.

DING DING DING Time

Round ends and I just sit in silence.

As I ask what his F'n problem is?!

He just answers: "I don't know what you're talking about kid, 😉"

Bro what???

27 Confirmed K*lle Buddy

"Listen buddy If you disagree I'll have you know as an decorated USMC with confirmed KIA,Thank you. Honestly, I am
An “internal” martial artist and so my post is sorta the answer but to go into more detail:
We are talking big categories so we gotta paint with a wide brush… tempting to say that internal styles are more focused on technique or principle but that’s greatly undervaluing the skill involved in external systems.
If I had to explain the two at the moment… I think external styles are a lot more athletic and require greater athletic prowess while internal styles are bit “lazier” and emphasize efficiency.
You don’t know when exactly but I’m about due to test for my 3rd degree black in a more “Shaolin” system. I also have around 6-7 years now where my primary practice is a “soft” form of Southern Mantis.
Trying to ignore personal bias, I feel like the more external Shaolin oriented study gave me a good athletic base and helped me to become a proficient & well rounded martial artist but the more internal Jooklum helped me to understand underlying principles and is surprisingly much more pragmatic.
I started kungfu when I was 14-15 and now I’m about to turn 36, I don’t move the same way I did then but I learned a lot that influenced my current practice.
Regarding “internal force”, I think it’s mostly a way to explain factors that aren’t obvious. Look at an actual Olympic powerlifter, they are obviously fit & strong but could easily pass as a guy who just happens to go to go to the gym until they snatch 175kg+ right? That’s a level of strength that is baffling but ultimately it is the result of thousands of hours perfecting optimal movement paths & learning to use the entire body as one unit. I kinda think of internal arts the same way…. We are learning to be efficient with existing force rather than trying to have the hardest kick or strongest punch. It’s not a perfect metaphor but hopefully good enough. If you truly believe you're correct and I'm somehow wrong then buddy my squad and I would be waiting by your Dojo.
I’m sorry you feel that way.

You cannot answer your own question especially considering the fact that you are not familiar with the broader conversation.

You might choose to allow people to harass & insult other people without recourse and I respect your beliefs. I will not do the same though; if somebody has the wherewithal to attack people then they should be prepared to have the same returned.

I try to be peaceful but if you go out of your way to attack me & other people then I’ll return the favor with more violence than you are prepared for. If that’s uncomfortable then the lesson is to not start things you cannot finish.

In a perfect world we don’t have this issue; but in the imperfect world we live in, I’m willing to go as far as necessary to protect the innocent and weak. If that requires attacking somebody’s ego then so be it.
Sorry.

I have hearing loss & tinnitus so it’s hard to hear stuff. Your mom said something about not hurting your feelings but your sister and GF were asking me to “breed them”?

Go home Jody, you are drunk and out of your element. Tell your daughter I’ll pick her up around 9pm.Why did you delete your message to me?

ur confusing me with the guy that talked to u about USMC stuff. Wasnt involved in any of that,...
Now

This game worked better for you here than in USMC because I could provide screenshots to show your activity. You did good man, a lot of people honestly believed you & your attempts to make me seem like a bad person. You couldn’t do that there because people know me and I could show receipts.

So what’s your issue dude? Seems you got offended that I offered a realistic explanation for terms which interfered with your efforts to make people look bad.

Are you really just angry that my practice doesn’t fit the idiotic categorization that you want it to fit into?

But hey, I’ll play nice & pretend you didn’t create this account specifically to troll. If you are a real person I extend the same invitation to you. Come show me in person how your kungfu is superior to mine. If you are better than I’ll learn from you."

"I Am Kung Fu Master" 2026 CP Package

It's not Magic It's Science

https://www.reddit.com/r/kungfu/s/YxZCaiGLCd

You guys do realize there are videos of people doing stuff like this. Without actually moving their arm to project air current forward? Lol Its understanding electromagnetic resonance. Shit that you can't see with your eyes but with ekg scans etc. It isnt magic, its science.
What you were doing at six years old is playing with air. Lol im glad you realize that. But this skill goes way deeper than a simple understanding of air blowing shit out. Some of the greatest martial artists and icons also talk about understanding the bodies electromagnetic resonance, and how understanding it makes you a better martial artist/warrior.
Magic is something we label something as when we don't have the science to describe it. The cool thing about today's science is that we have something called quantum physics.
More than ever before, we have global spiritual teaching coinciding with the science. All i'm saying is that we wouldn't have this science emerging for no reason. Nor, would we have prestigious universities teaching this stuff.

Slow Melody Harness Energy

Absolutely not, You just can't see Chi. My refined Denten core spiyralizes and resonates with depth -
there is power, it’s just being generated in a way you may not be familiar with - if you add the principles of this drill to any martial arts technique it will apply itself very effectively. The health benefits also can’t be overstated, this type of training will realign your skeleton and very greatly benefit your organs the power is from the core turning while going up and down, that while keeping the shoulders and everything relaxed is mostly what this is training Sorry but I’m not going to get into all of that here - that’s more so something to interact with in person and besides, I know that I am absolutely powerful with a magnetic pulse as you can see with my form 🍃

The Journey Begins

My first lesson is at 7pm tonight and I am beyond excited. I have been wanting to get back into martial arts for a decade, but life has always gotten in the way (especially covid). Wish me luck and thanks to everyone here who gave me tips and pointers. I now train in shito ryu and Santa for about 90 days each now. Its a great combo OSU! My Sensei has given me my Red Belt as a naturally gifted. All combat sports follow a certain rulebook. Even MMA has illegal moves. The issue with TMA practitioners getting beaten by MMA type people is that the vast majority do not pressure test. You need free sparring to be able to fight properly. JJJ tends to get beaten by BJJ because BBJ guys free spar constantly while JJJ is usually just drills. On paper JJJ should win because they have a much bigger pool of techniques to pull from, but the lack of pressure testing leads to them losing more than they win agaisnt BJJ which honestly isn't that effective.

BORO Dentist, Avoid malpractice, Lazy service

Just Awful. Relative has been going here for 26 Months, They just found out they have multiple severe conditions completely ignored & covered up by BORO Dentists for years of damage near the QBridge. The 2nd and 3rd opinion dentistries were just as upset as we were. Only after multiple complaints and eventually another business did they find a horrifying condition & surgery started right away. Shame on you BORO Dental Art!

Always get second opinions and go to another Dr., Dentist once in a while. You may find "your guy" to be a complete useless clown in the industry standard
