The editorial team of Jüdische Allgemeine has been awarded the Tacheles Prize in recognition of its contribution to Jewish life in Germany.

The award was presented in Berlin by the Jewish organisation WerteInitiative to the weekly newspaper, which is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year.
“We are honouring them first and foremost because they produce outstanding journalism,” said Elio Adler, chairman of the organisation. He added that the prize also recognises people who “speak plainly, provide context, challenge misconceptions, and give courage to the Jewish community”.

Israel’s lack of self control has led them here.

The violent abduction and subsequent humiliation of humanitarian flotilla activists was entirely driven by hubris. They could have followed their previous playbook, but they couldn't hold themselves back; they wanted to display their might against unarmed activists. Well, good job.

Except for the US and Germany, these actions have forced every Western government to start considering actual consequences. It has also triggered tensions within the Israeli government. They are trapped in a zero-sum scenario: firing Ben-Gvir will enrage the Kahanist lunatics within the coalition and society, but keeping him is not an option with the arrest warrants on the way. Let’s see what they choose to do.

Special thanks go to Germany, whose constant unconditional funding, support, and protection paved the way to this point. Are violently abducted and degraded European citizens part of your Staatsräson (reason of state)? Is it inherently anti-Semitic to ask a government to stop abusing activists?

Clearly, they don’t care. Priorities are elsewhere.
