Attachments no workee [153.4.0ESR]

I haven't sent an e-mail with attachments for a while, and now find it does nothing when trying to attach a file. Selecting attach from menu bar or ctrl-shift-A don't work. Putting "attached" in body of e-mail invokes popup box for attaching, but that does not work either. Running under Windoze 10.

Buying phones from pawn shops: good or bad idea?

Rather interested in collecting certain models that ceased production, but still want without scratches from being dropped or a flogged-out battery. Plus the worry that it could be stolen phone. Has anybody had good outcome from buying off a pawn shop?

Cannot report annuity via Centrelink website - rejects start date

Recently got a small lifetime annuity from superannuation. Login to Mygov, go to Centrelink to report it. When you get up to the start date, it give red error message that product type "Lifetime" cannot start after 2019. So call superannuation provider, they say that is the correct product type, not of the other options. Furthermore, these are grandfathered for people who began super before 2019, so the problem is with Centerlink. So I will have to go into Centrelink office to sort it out. Still waiting for snail mail statement of welcome to annuity before I can do that.

The Collection of 1988 Australian Stamps (value crashed?)

Going through a deceased estate, there were a dozen of these books for a year of Australian stamps. With the albums were two newspaper cuttings. They have advertisements from a commemorative merchandise vendor, listing the prices for each year. 1988 was $200 more than any of the other years, no idea why that would be, though the adverts say 1988 was 'scarce'. I would guess those clippings were from late 1990s, judging by other content of the other side. The face value of the stamps was around But today on eBay, 1988 is pretty much the same price as other years. So was the scarcity a scam, or just young people aren't much interested in stamp collection today?

what percentage of settlements fall though at last minute?

My parents bought and sold a lot of houses when I was young. They had one settlement fail on old house, so had to pay interest for next house. I can't remember the reason. It was long before electronic transfers, everything done with shuffling paper.

KDE Connect interferes with Fitbit

Fitbit app would not sync properly to Android phone. It would show battery charge, but not receive data. Figured out happened when KDE Connect is running in background. Presumably pinging Bluetooth in perpetuity. I used phone to take photos then transfer them to linux PC. Annoying that you have to go to Setting-Apps then force stop when you are finished with KDE Connect.

Is a set of 3-coin sets worth much more?

The joys of deceased estates when stuff has been hidden in multiple places. The 2001 state and territory uncirculated coin sets, finally unearthed 2 more, so have all 9 to complete the series. I can only see a complete series of 9 sets of proof coins for sale (over $700). I had contacted a dealer before having a complete series, but he wasn't interested. It looks like a lot of special editions came out for the Centenary of Federation.

Firefox says Reddit is slowing down this page (for last 12 hours)

It is quite laggy today. It takes 10 seconds before number of comments appears under each post. Has anybody else noticed this. Has Reddit changed something?

Album of worn sixpence/threepence for melt value?

Found false bottom in wardrobe. One of the things there is a carboard album containing sixpence and threepence 1910-1963. 11 years are missing, you guessed the rare ones. Plus a few extra postions showing the head of each monarch. Most are pretty bad condition, worn and tarnished. Perhaps grandpa was collecting years from the till in the shop. Online calculator gives melt value $416. Would anybody want these given the poor condition of the coins?

Got old Fitbit app going despite it being retired

Main phone has a bare minimum of essential apps. I used spare phones for pairing with Fitbit. Both had Android 10 and could not install Google Health. Battery dying in phone with Fitbit, so managed to transfer it to other spare phone which is still running better. Back up on sick phone and transfer apk file to other phone. Install that. Pleasant surprise, Fitbit runs, login, set location permission, pair to Charge 6. A lot of dicking around, it was a challenge.

Coffee truck at home open a sign of the times?

There was one this morning (free coffee to all and sundry). I haven't seen this for quite a while. The agents must be getting desperate now. Though one of the attractions of the house was "close to cafe strip".

Pronunciation for two vowels together

I understand that the first vowel will be long and second vowel depends if it is followed by one or more consonants. But what happens when vowels are at the end, like Heimaey or Vegbúi?

"Find out if you can afford this property" price estimate way out

I was at my mother's house and there was home open in same street. Looked up the real estate listing and it has the section "Find out if you can afford this property" for mortgage repayments. It had estimated value of 2.6 million, I thought WTF it is just a strata-titled villa with one bathroom and one car bay. That price is what I would expect to pay for house on 800 sqm block (it is an affluent area). So I went to the home open and agent said we expect to get 1.5 million at the auction. Hmmm, I won't put much faith in those estimates any more.

Transfer old to new phone during setup takes two attempts

Old phone was Nokia 6.1 the new XR20 (a "new old stock" phone rather than new new). Backed up old phone. Switch on XR20 and go through setup, after adding Google account to new phone, and trying to transfer from backup, got the dreaded something went wrong message. Then updated Android to version 14 and after that it kind of went through the setup process again, not all of it. Second time around the tranfser worked, and I have messages, contacts et cetera. Just frustrating they cannot get it right first time. Now just have to delete those unwanted apps Amazon, Netflix, Spotify et al.

1927 Parliament silver florin in 1988 perspex case?

Sorting through a deceased estate coin collection, I found this oddity. The florin is in a 64x64 mm perspex case with PARLIAMENT HOUSE 1927 1988 CANBERRA printed on it. The actual coin looks pretty shabby. Did somebody in 1988 package a load of dross to make a quick buck? Or was it meant to be paired with the 1988 parliament coin? I can't find anything about it.
