I'm currently going through my huge, and ancient box of CD's, to add to my server.

Spotify be damned.

However, I'm hitting a wall with The Sinister Urge.

The CD itself is absolutely spotless, though I've given it a microfibre clean incase I'm missing something.

Along the way I've ripped CD's I thought wouldn't stand a chance, but worked, yet Sinister Urge is outright refusing to play ball with dBpoweramp.

Looking online, apparently there is no DRM on the album, but I can't help but feel there's something digital being unfriendly.

Has anyone else had any issues with this CD? If yes (or no) could you possibly recommend something I could try to get the album off my CD and onto my server?

Weirdly Windows Media Player (Legacy) had zero issues ripping it. Now to MusicBrainz it.

This evening I've sat with my massive crate of old CD's and I've been ripping them, and where the metadata hasn't pulled through, dopped then into MP3tag; completing any missed spots

However, I've noticed on Jellyfin, when refreshing the data, that some albums haven't carried over even the most basic of metadata info (year of release, genre etc), which others have brought over oodles of info. Even going so far as to give a blurb on the album.

However, I'm unsure who metadata service this has come from. I know of Discogs and Musicbrainz.

Which should I be telling my future ripping to look at, so I get all the information needed, and don't have to go back in and fill the fields again?

Spent most of the morning looking for Prometheus on audiobook, to discover it was never actually recorded as one.

However, Gemini mentioned that there are a number of fan recordings of the book, which is a translation of the Japanese release of the paperback.

Is this true, and if yes, can anyone possibly recommend one of these recordings? I've got a nice run on my Audible; it just seems odd that Prometheus never got the audiobook treatment.

I was recently asked to check the insides of a family's old QNAP TS-419P+ it contained nothing other than old, pointless, data from 2014. They didn't want it and asked me to bin it all. 

So, I have this full unit, and it seems a shame to recycle it, so I'm considering using it as my own media server. I'm currently just using a Linux based, tiny office computer for it, with a tiny 500 GB external hard drive.

However, when I dropped this conversation into Copilot, it told me in no uncertain terms that I should definitely not place my media on there for my server to use, and instead keep using my Linux computer, due to speed. It recommended I use this only for backup.

I'm only using this server for myself. Audiobooks are held on it and downloaded to the phone when needed; music will be streamed, films/tv are only streamed on the local network, and it will hold photos.

Is CoPilot right? Thanks to this Reddit group, it's on its latest firmware.

Any advice here is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I know MP3tag is technically perfect for audiobooks, but I find with ABS, on occasion it doesn't like some of the metadata.

Whether it's due to suggested inputs from Google, "use ; or \\" for spaces, the genre, all along to knowing which field is the narrator/author and not album artist/composer etc.

I know most of these are purely cosmetic, and making life slightly easier grumbles, but if there's an recommended audiobook metadata editor, specifically created for audiobooks, which ABS users use, then I'd like to give it a go.

Also, I'm a Windows 11 user.

I'm trying to add an old wrestling match into my MOVIES folder to watch later on my TV. However, when I drag it over, before I get chance to edit the metadata myself, it populates the metadata itself.

I tried to go to the Jellyfin Metadata Manager, before I scanned the library, but (obviously) it wasn't there.

Is there a way to stop Jellyfin from searching for the metadata with this one file?

Or

Is there a piece of software like MP3Tag, which I use for my Audiobooks and Music, that I can use for Videos? Where I can manually set the Metadata, and stop Jellyfin from being "helpful"?

I'm currently going through several audiobook files, occasionally, I'll find ones that have been ripped as one big MP3.

Using the Chapter Editor this evening, I've slowly worked my way through a ten-hour book and marked off the chapters, and all looked great. This tool is a blessing; thank you for it.

However...

Popping over to the ABS on my phone, I clicked on a chapter and started partway through it, not at the start. Dropping back over to my chapter editor and checking the times, everything was perfect.

This was also replicated in my Campfire appilcation. Clicking on a random chapter, I found myself at the tail end of the closing one, about twenty seconds or so. Not at the start of the selected chapter.

I then jumped onto the original file on my home server; here I discovered that one of the chapter start points was forty seconds earlier than it is on the ABS chapter screen.

So the File for Chapter 2 is 00:27:13; ABS chapter screen shows Chapter 2 starting at 00:27:53.

Am I doing something wrong here with allocating chapters? I'm adding a time, title, insert chapter below, and moving on to the next. Once completed, I save, and I'm done.

Is there a step to this I should be adding to make sure they stay lined up?

Any help with sorting this would be brilliant. I'm finding this additional tool fantastic, and would really like to make sure I'm using it correctly.

I know I am technically new to all of this, so thanks to everyone for being patient with the few questions I have asked along the way, no matter how beginner-silly or odd they have been.

However, I would like to say, from someone new on the scene here, that using Campfire as the front end for AudioBookShelf is brilliant. The fact that it nicely carries over the series I compiled in AudioBookShelf is just perfect.

It looks friendly, it was very easy to set up, and my only complaint is that I accidentally subscribed to the GitHub page for all updates. As the developer is constantly updating, well...my inbox is filling up! 😄

I was out for a walk this morning, and I thought I'd set my Symfonium up all great for playing yesterday evening. However, as soon as I launched it, I found my issue: nothing was coming through on mobile data. No library, no images, no recently played. Nothing. Just a basic black screen.

When I sat down for a drink and logged onto the cafes WiFi, up it popped.

Jellyfin was streaming fine on mobile and WiFi. It's clearly something I've not checked off in the Settings, but I can't see what it is.

Can anyone possibly point me to what I need to click or check, so I can listen to music sans WiFi?

EDIT - I've added the images of my settings as I'm still having the same issue with Symfonium over Mobile Data. Wifi fine and Jellyfin music is fine too.

Apologies if this has been asked, I couldn't see it looking through the questions below.

This evening I've been fiddling around with my Symfonium, for my music streaming, and discovered that if I'm using my mobile data I can knock the Bitrate down to 192kbps. If I'm streaming out and about. WiFi stays on the original Bitrate.

Which led me to think about my books on ABS, and yes I am aware I can download them 😁👍

However, if using Absorb, I'm walking around, and fancy listening to something I've not downloaded, is there anyway I can say to ABS, "Please send the books to me at around 68-96kbps."?

Or will it always play it as I uploaded it?

I'm wondering if someone could gently point me towards the glaringly obvious mistake that I'm missing.

I'm happily sorting my folders, and everything is working well, when I suddenly get the genius idea that instead of having numerous libraries for Arthur C. Clarke, PKD, Frank Herbert, etc., I'll just make a Library called Science-Fiction and have all of these author folders (now sub-folders) sat in one big Science-Fiction folder.

It seemed to work until I realised that it had just cherry-picked twelve books from the sub-folders for my Science-Fiction library and added no more.

I gave it a re-scan, just in case more needed to come through. Nope.

I checked my tags in MP3tag, and all seemed okay.

So, believing I'd knackered it up somehow, I deleted the library, restarted my Audiobookshelf, and created the Library again.

Same thing. Same books. Cherry-picked twelve books from the sub-folders.

I've no idea what I'm doing wrong, but clearly I am.

Can anyone kindly point me towards the simple fix, and I'll leave quietly apologising.

As above, this is probably going to cause an awful lot of people slapping their palms to their collective foreheads, but for the life of me I can't work out how to combine all my books onto one giant "Bookshelf".

I've got them happily sorted into their own individual series, using the website, but putting my collected books in one view. No idea.

I thought I'd worked it out, buy just selecting the parent folder, but it only pulled through about ten titles.

Can anyone guide me gently by the hand to where I'm supposed to be looking, and I promise I won't eat any crayons on the way?

I'm wondering if anyone can help.

I've got an ancient folder that I've carried around across multiple computers, full of my favourite audiobooks. However, they're all in MP3 format, and I've recently discovered the joy of bringing them all together into m4b/m4a files using Audiobookshelf.

I'm going to keep my MP3 folder safe as a backup, but I'd like to combine them all into the m4b/m4a format so they look nice and tidy in my Audiobookshelf library.

I've downloaded a piece of software called fre:ac, as Google told me this does batch conversion. For the life of me, though, I can't work out how to process multiple folders at once, only single ones.

Can anyone direct me on how to do this? If fre:ac doesn't actually support batch converting multiple folders, could anyone recommend software that does?

I'm running Windows 11.

I would obviously love a 4K release, but here in the UK, I'm struggling to find the series on Blu-ray.

The only versions I can seem to find are imports, NTSC, from the US and I've not got the hardware for that.

Or Spain, but the box art is in Spanish, and I don't have a problem with the Spanish language, except I don't speak it and it'll stickout like a sore thumb, against my scores and scores of non-Spanish boxes.

So, if there's anyone reading this from Mr. Robot disc production land, and happen to know the UK market. Is there any possibility you could see your way to releasing a UK Blu-ray boxset please?

Now to my question.

I'm currently listening to Titan on Audible, and my brain has already itched a couple of times, and I'm wondering if the UK book-written version is the same as the Audible UK version.

I'm a bit fussy when it comes to other countries' terminology sneaking into the language of old Blighty. Especially when it's not needed. I know, forgive me, I'm old(ish). When I see British YouTubers saying, "Dollars" or "Feds", when they're clearly living in Brighton. It's frustrating.

So, listening to Titan, and I'm only at the beginning, when Rimmer has received a ticket for "Jaywalking". My brain goes, 'I'm sorry?'. What the ruddy flip!?

There was another instance of this not so long before that pricked my ears too, but I can't recall it.

This has led me to wonder if the actual book release in the UK contains "jaywalking", or is this just in the Audible version? As the Audible will be going out across the US and UK, along with anywhere else that wants to hear Mr. Barrie.

Again, I know this is fussy, and I'll probably be hounded into a corner here, but it has made me wonder if there's a difference.
