Een auto kan er mooi of lelijk uitzien van buiten. Maar als bestuurder zal je voornamelijk het interieur zien, en met name dan het dashboard

Als we negeren over hoe goed een display, scherm of software werken, maar echt alleen maar puur kijken naar hoe de dashboard eruit ziet van auto’s. Welke vinden jullie dan het mooist?

En als je het kan uitleggen, wat vind je er mooi aan?

Als bonus ben ik ook benieuwd welk interieur je juist lelijk vind, en waarom.

Ik zelf vind de dashboard van Mercedes EQE er super mooi uitzien. Heel strak en futuristisch. Ziet er heel high tech uit. (Hoe goed en fijn dat alles werkt, geen flauw idee, maar daar kijken we verder niet naar in dit topic)

Zelf heb ik de Mach e, het dashboard zie je op de tweede foto. Ik zelf vind fijn dat het klein scherm bij het stuur niet te afleidend is met allemaal animaties etc. Dat groot scherm heb ik vrijwel altijd uitstaan tijdens het rijden. Dat is zodat ik zo min mogelijk prikkels krijg. (Sinds een zware hersenschudding een jaar terug ben ik nog steeds heel gevoelig voor prikkels).

En hiermee zal ik een hoop vijanden maken. Maar ik vind het dashboard van de nieuwe Tesla auto’s buitengewoon lelijk. Ik vind het gewoon veel te minimalistisch. Totaal niet mijn smaak. Ik hoef natuurlijk ook niet allemaal toeters en bellen, maar Tesla is gewoon net veel te minimalistisch.

Few days ago with friends and family we did the “all the hot ones challenge”. We take a chicken wing or a Doritos. And we eat it with a hot sauce starting from left to right. Obviously left is the mildest and right is the strongest.

Thing is, while I did feel the heat of the most left hot sauce (called “hellfire”). I did feel the burn, and it did hurt to some extend. But I could actually easily manage the heath without drinking water, or even drinking water or eating ice.

I could still keep my composure. I could even take additional bites with that “extreme” hot sauce.

While I could handle the heat. It didn’t have any flavour at all. It tastes like how burnt plastic smells.

But yeah, that aside. Could someone recommend me something that’s spicier? And something that actually has a nice flavour?

(If it bothers anyone, I have Indian Genes. I have started eating spicy stuff since I was 3 years old. At the age of 5 I could handle raw Madame Jeanette peppers. So I’m used to spicy stuff)

Normaliter ga ik rond 21:00 al naar bed. Dat is het ritme wat ik opgebouwd heb ivm werk. (Dus dan ben ik ook altijd vroeg op). Morgen is m’n verjaardag, dus waren we natuurlijk bezig met voorbereidingen etc. In ieder geval, ik zal al diep in slaap zijn tegen de tijd dat de auto volledig opgeladen is.

En wat context is wel handig natuurlijk. Er zijn hier 4 laadpalen op dit blok. En alleen 2 mensen hier (inclusief ik) hebben een elektrisch voertuig. En de andere persoon met een EV laadt het altijd op bij z’n werk. Dus met andere woorden, er zullen nog steeds 3 laadplekken beschikbaar zijn als ik 24/7 zou kleven (wat ik uiteraard niet doe).

Dus gezien de omstandigheden. Wat vinden jullie? Is het toegestaan dat ik voor deze ene keer ga kleven aangezien ik niemand tot last zal zijn? Of verdien ik het om op een Lego blokje te stappen?

What was I doing all the way to Africa, in the sea nonetheless? That gives a whole new meaning to getting lost.

We all know that we got a big ass screen in the middle that can display all kinds of stuff. So what does your screen look like while driving? And why?

I just go for the quiet screen to reduce the amount of impulses and distractions to the minimum. It’s way more relaxed driving that way. And probably safer as well since you’re more focused on the road

Also, I always use the dark mode settings for my screen. How other people can stand that very bright big ass screen is a mystery to me. But that’s just my opinion.

Bij dat rood pijltje zie je een klein wit balkje. Naarmate de batterij leger raakt komen er meer van die witte balkjes bij. Met 20% batterij zijn er zo een 5 van die balkjes.

Dus het vermogen en max acceleratie wordt enigszins begrenst met lege batterij. Niet dat het in de praktijk iets uit maakt. Want zoveel vermogen heb je bij lange na niet nodig als je gewoon rustig volgens de regels rijdt.

Maar vraag is dus, doet alleen mijn auto dit? Of doen alle EV’s dit? En waarom doen auto’s dit?

I’m by no means a car guy. I know next to nothing about cars and what makes them so great etc. So how I think about this car is probably different from most of you guys.

(Note, all GT version in Europe come with the Magneride suspension by default)

Let’s start with the visuals
Going on looks alone, that’s the main reason what got me into buying a Mach-e. I like that beautiful streamlined design. I like that slightly aggressive but modest look on the front. And those lights at the back, holy shit, those are beautiful. Everything is just right in the total package.

Interior
The interior is actually even more important than what the car looks like on the outside, because it’s the interior that I will be seeing most of the time.

I like how the interior is not too crowded with too many screens and animations etc. And I like how it’s not too minimalistic compared to Tesla.

I like that small screen right in front of you. It’s not too crowded with useless information and animations. No distractions, only the basic stuff you need while driving. And it’s also nice that you can turn off that huge middle screen while driving.

Space
I also like how I got lots of space inside. Even on the back seats. This is when comparing it to the average car in the Netherlands. Over here the Average car is small. You don’t see a lot af people driving pick-ups or other cars which are bigger than the Mach-e. (There are cars here as well that are bigger than the Mach-e, but there aren’t a lot of people driving those cars)

As for the trunk, lots of people argue that EV6 and ID for is better because it got bigger trunk space. But I’m like, who cares? Seriously, how often are you going to put that much luggage into your car? Never even once in my life did I need any more space than what a small station car could provide me.

And the Mach E has got a bigger trunk compared to station cars. So I honestly don’t get why people are so obsessed about the trunk space. You’ll hardly ever use it, if at all.

Infotainment and software
I have read reviews about how that screen can be really buggy and extremely slow. So far I haven’t experienced that (maybe because of updates?). I think everything works really easy and fluently. The navigation into the menus is actually really straightforward and logical.

But I do feel like they should remove some stuff from the screen and give us some physical buttons instead. For example, I’d rather have some physical buttons for 1-pedal drive, and the different drive modes.

Acceleration
Regarding acceleration, like holy shit, that car is a monster. It can accelerate faster than what your eyes and brains can process, which also makes it really dangerous.

When quickly overtaking someone I really have to be careful to not go too much over the speed limit. When for example quickly overtaking someone at a 50km/hour road, my plan was to accelerate to 70 max, only to find out that I went to 95 in that extremely short period of time. (That’s way too fast, you can lose your drivers license like that)

After that I just drive 100% according to the rules. I don’t want to use that kind of power ever again, it’s simply too much, and too much risk of losing your drivers license)

driving comfort
I really like how this car got an adaptive cruise control that actually works without braking and accelerating too much. The adaptive cruise control works way better compared to other cars I tried. Combine it with the lane centering assist, that’s giving me a real relaxed driving experience. Obviously I’m still fully focused on the road so I can quickly take over of the car decides to brake for no reason at all. But so far so haven’t encountered any false positive.

It did happen 2 times though that the adaptive cruise suddenly got deactivated causing me to slow down rapidly because of the 1 pedal drive. I don’t know what caused it. Maybe the car thought that I wasn’t paying enough attention on the road?

Another aspect with the comfort is how you feel while driving. While the seats are comfortable. I would have preferred some extra support for your lower back. And I also hate how the headrest is slightly tilted forward.

Even with the Magneride, the suspension can still feel kinda stiff sometimes. I wonder if Ford could fix this with an over the air update? (And also, if they would bother to fix it)

While driving on the highway, this car is just great. But on the small roads and parking spots, this car can be a challenge with its huge turning radius. Like holy shit, that car is not flexible at all. And this car is also too big for most regular parking spots. So most of the time for grocery shopping or small distances, I pick my smaller second car because that one is way easier during those circumstances.

Niche/useless Functions
Useless doesn’t always mean that I don’t like it. I do like the ambient light, but it’s not bright enough.

I like that auto park function. But it doesn’t always work flawlessly. It only works if the car can park in one go. If it can’t park on the first attempt, the car will start crying and begs me to take over.

As for the frunk. It’s a cool party trick to show off to friends and family. But other than that I don’t actually use it. And I also don’t like the amount of force needed to close the Frunk. I have heard stories of people actually causing dents on their hood while trying to close the frunk.

The glass roof, it sounds nice, but as the driver you never notice that glass roof. And I don’t like how you can’t cover up the glass roof with some kind of sliding curtain.

That function where the trunk opens by just waving your foot underneath, I actually like that one. It really comes in handy while loading the car.

I like how the lights start lighting up when you’re approaching the car. It’s like the car is greeting you and inviting you to step in.

And last, but not least, I actually like that sound you hear when turning on the car. Somehow it makes the car feel special and fast without even having experienced how fast it really is.

So yeah, here is the opinion of someone who isn’t a car guy or American. This is the opinion of someone who always tries to drive according to the rules. Feel free to disagree, but keep it respectful

What you see here is Apple cider/wine. It tastes like something in between cider and wine.

I started with 1 liter apple juice + 150 grams sugar + turbo yeast (tolerance to 21,3%) and yeast nutrition

After day 3 I added 50 grams of brown sugar.

After day 6 I added 50 grams of sugar again.

At day 25 when all the sweetness was gone I let it cold crash for about a month.

2 days ago I added a tablespoon of sugar to give it some fizz.

And today I got this drink which tastes surprisingly good. The abv should be something like 20-21%. But it doesn’t taste bitter. It has a very slight sweet taste, probably because of that tablespoon of sugar 2 days ago.

All in all, this recept was a succes.

Next time I’ll try some watermelon juice. Or pear juice. Or maybe even some kind of candy

The size
Here in the Netherlands we don’t have a lot of those oversized American cars. In the Netherlands a station car like the Auris is generally 1 of the biggest car you’ll see driving around.

But then the Mach-e is bigger in ever dimension compared to the Toyota Auris.

When driving you really notice that the car is significantly bigger than a simple station car.
Also the big turning cirkel plays its part. In small and narrow streets with small parking spots, it can actually prove to be kinda difficult to park a big car like the Mach-E

(again this is not America, over here the Mach-e is considered as a huge car)

Gas prices
I can’t charge at home, so public charging it is for me. The funny thing is, 2 weeks ago my Auris was actually cheaper to drive. But now since gasoline prices kept increasing, suddenly the Mach-E is cheaper to drive now.

Driving comfort
Now here is where it gets weird. Overal, the Toyota Auris is actually more comfortable to drive, despite that car not having adaptive cruise control, lane centering assist and blind spot censor.

But the Mach e is by far more fun to drive, even if I’m just driving according to the rules (which I always do)

For short trips I find myself often picking the Auris over the Mach-e because it’s just easier to navigate and park. (Like 10 minute driving trips)

For bigger trips I prefer the Mach-e no contest. Despite having said earlier that the Auris is more comfortable. For larger trips it is actually nice that the car will assist you with staying in the center, and keeping a reasonable distance to the car in front of you.

The total costs
Despite the gasoline prices increasing, it will still take a long time before the Mach-e actually becomes cheaper to drive. Insurance for the Mach-e, especially the GT version is expensive.

Over here we also pay road taxes, the heavier your car, the higher the taxes. And the Mach-e weights like double compared to the Auris. So taxes will be a lot higher.

And then we have the depreciation.

So despite the Mach-e being cheaper to drive. All other factors around it makes it by far the more expensive car.

So, am I happy with the Mach-e?
Well yes, of course I’m happy. Did you see the design of the Mach-e? It’s just a piece of art. And the car does come with a lot of luxury. The car is simply amazing.
