Career changers! Please tell me how you got into med school.

Hello, wanting to get into med school as a person who has 0 background in biology, have a degree in completely unrelated field.

For context, I am planning on doing DIY post bacc, going to a 4 year institution to take classes to be hopefully be a stronger candidate. I have hospital volunteer work ahead of me, now don’t know what else to do. Currently working a 9-5 and it’s a bit stressful balancing everything.

How did career changers go about their journey to get into med school? I’m a bit overwhelmed with this journey and don’t know what the best path forward is.

Thank you all for your help!

Did anyone quit their fulltime 9-5 to do jobs that count towards medschool?

Specifically jobs like being a scribe or being a medical assistant, and basically pursuing your post bacc and extracarriculers fulltime? I'm currently a career changer, and doing my diy post bacc while juggling a fulltime job.

Genuinely considering this path, as I still get paid doing those small gigs and can also use that time to ensure I can get accepted at some med school (hopefully). Thoughts? And is this stupid? I dont have kids or partner, and I am lucky enough I can move back in with family.

Anyone here a former software engineer?

Kind of see a lot of posts of doctors saying they regret not going into tech, but as someone in big tech its not as good as people say it is. I think tech is overhyped, and anyone can be laid off in a quick second, there ageism (all of the staff engineers either got laid off cuz they were old and too expensive or they were all encouraged to "voluntarily retire"), and all the work you do is to just be promoted and for visibility. Job security is a myth (in tech atleast), as since the field is so oversaturated they can replace you in an instant. AI is making the curve on standing out even harder, and also work sucks now because AI is doing everything for you, you don't really learn anything new. WFH is not as glamorous as it seems, and most companies are implementing back into office.

Anyways, anyone here bit the bullet and decided to become a doctor instead?

Post bacc vs Community College for med school, whats the difference??

So currently a non-trad premed, I currently work at as a SWE and considering becoming a physician.

Right now, the most logical option would be the take night courses while I work at a CC to save money, but I was considering if I decide to full send I would go to a post bacc.

I have seen a lot of suggestions about a post bacc and community college, so does going to a post bacc vs community college affect the med school you get accepted into?

My fatass is SO HUNGRY

It’s been 4 days post OP, hitting 5 days. It’s 12AM, my fat ass drove to the grocery to pick up pasta roni. I boiled those noodles to hell, and tried my best to eat them. The most depressing part is I was only able to eat 1/4 of what I made and I had to swallow all my noodles.

This is so painful. When will I be able to go back to my big back activities 😭😭😭😭

What are your thought on our current representative Suzane Delbene?

She up for re-election soon, and I'm wondering what are the people of Redmond's thoughts on her?

Currently, I am not a big fan. She accepted 200k of funding from Israeli lobbyist group AIPAC (link). Updating to $123,400 from OpenSecrets (link). She's basically taking money from the people causing a genocide in Gaza. I am personally not a great fan of that. I'm also extremely pissed US tax dollars are funding Israel to kill Palestinians, when all of that money should be used in the States. But I think my main gripe with her is accepting funding AIPAC. This signals to me she supports what Israel is doing. I mean look at Ro Khanna, doesn't take a single dime from AIPAC. bro actually went to the West Bank and saw the horrors of what Israel was doing. The man even got detained by IDF soldiers for christs sake! What the hell is Delbene doing? Short blurb, Ro Khanna is the Representative for Silicon Valley, at this point adjacent to District 1 (king county) we got all of big tech up in here.

Recent proposed amendment that came out, Massie Amendment, where it proposed to eliminate $3.3 billion in annual military assistance to Israel. Sounds like a great idea right? I mean even Ro Khanna voted yes on it. But oh, guess who voted No and issued a very convenient statement on her page? Here is the link to Suzane's post, where it essentially says "I voted no because you guys didn't realize this would also take away funding from Gaza." GIRL PLEASE, we all know why you voted no. Israel needs the $3 billion America tax dollars, where else are they going to get that sweet sweet funding.

Please comment down what you think of her. Are you a fan? Or not a fan? Just a heads up, Washingtons Primary election is August 4th, so time to pick a new candidate and vote someone you trust in!!

Update: I just google Massie's amendent and this is what he put:

8. An Amendment To Be Offered by Representative Massie of Kentucky or a
                   Designee, Debatable for 10 Minutes

At the end of the bill (before the short title), insert the
following:

                          NO FUNDS FOR ISRAEL

Sec. __. (a) None of the funds made available under this Act
shall be obligated or expended for Israel.
  (b) The amount otherwise made available by this Act for
``Foreign Military Financing Program'' is hereby reduced by
$3,300,000,000.

Where in that amendment does it actually propose Gaza not get any funding? Where the hell would saying yes to this stop funding to aid Gaza? I genuinely thought I was tripping so I asked AI (I know don't judge me), and asked it to scour the web to actually PROVE DelBene's point and AI couldn't even hallucinate something to back her up. It was like there is nothing that proves her point, and she must assuming the bill was "indirectly" affect the humanitarian efforts.

Is squatting not normal or looked down upon?

I remember I was waiting at a train station after long day of walking (20k steps), and my thighs were killing me. I waited in line and just squatted so I could give my legs a quick rest, given there were no seats nearby.

An old man begins to just stare at me, with a bad expression and I he doesn’t look away. I stare back at him but he doesn’t care and is still staring at with me like the judgmental look on his face (I’m Asian, so idk if he think I’m a Chinese tourist).

Anyways, just curious if squatting is frowned upon in public?

Can vegans have thick Lucious hair?

I know this is a weird question, but I haven’t seen many vegans who have thick Lucious hair. I will say Babette Davis, she looks awesome and has thick hair!

Anecdotally, when I was vegan (6months) my hair was really thin and falling out like crazy (I was eating really healthy, no processed foods, WFPB). I was so confused, as i thought my WFPB diet would actually increase my hair volume. Unfortunately, when I started to incorporate eggs and fish back into my diet, I re gained my natural cheek rosey-ness and my hair is now thick and shiny.

I remember during my vegan time, I was feverishly Googling and searching tiktok for vegan influencers who had thick hair, and sadly most of them had pretty sparse or dull hair. I was genuinely freaking out, I increased my fat, protein, intake. Took algae oils, but my hair kept falling at a crazy rate. I knew it was diet and I was clearly lacking in some sort of nutrient given eggs and fish restores my hair and gave me back my glow.

Anyways, I only ask cause I do want to go back one day. But I do have a huge fear now, given the insane amount of hair loss I experience t_t

Anyone who lives near The Luke, who is that dude who keeps yelling?

I know this is niche, but I don’t know where to post this.

I always have my window open, and for the last couple days I’ve been hearing this mean just SCREAMING. I can’t tell if the person is mentally ill or it’s just a bunch of dudes hanging out. But this has been going on for awhile now, and just curious if anyone knows what the hell is going on.

ALSO, if you don’t know what happening but also hear the screaming let me know! I don’t want to feel like I’m crazy.

Update: just heard him scream “i hate you, I hate you,” probably gonna lean towards mental illness rather than a bunch of dudes hanging out
