I'm convinced there's no longer any hope for us

Throughout history, humanity has faced terrible crises and suffered terrible losses.

Some crises were caused by nature: famine, natural disasters, plagues, etc. Some were caused by apex psychopathic humans like Genghis Khan, Stalin, Hitler, religious leaders of all denominations, and so on. And the ignorant masses fought amongst themselves.

At the same time, countless heroes kept giving everything to bring us back from the precipice, even if that meant losing their lives. They were the best of us, doing their best to elevate all of us.

Today is different. We have nuclear weapons, BS TV, social media, catastrophic and already-unstoppable climate change, and a worldwide cabal of billionaires with the backing of entities such as the World Bank - which holds power over sovereign governments across the planet, including that of the USA.

The New Dark Ages are right around the corner. The ruling class will exterminate billions of the "unworthy". In the best case, it'll take centuries to swing the pendulum back to human progress. But I'm not holding my breath.

Sorry if I ruined the rest of your Sunday. 😔

Babymetal's importance and impact is greater than almost anyone realizes, IMO

I love them so much. Not in a creepy way, but because Babymetal has grown to give new life to metal music in a way no other band has ever done, AFAIK.

They showed us metal crosses all musical boundaries, and can turn haters into fans. Metal's core message of inclusivity, equality, justice, intensity, and even fun is relatable to everybody, and there's room to mix with any genre.

Personally, I'm waiting for a death metal band to do a Coltrane mix. Imagine that. 🤯😄🤘

EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation) reports a new variant of mass surveillance that further violates the rule of law, as well as fundamental human rights

"Law enforcement agencies have moved beyond specific investigations to use these surveillance networks for virtually any whim.

EFF's findings suggest that the absence of a warrant requirement has fostered a culture of unrestricted access to sensitive location data, allowing agencies to leverage that data beyond the scope of specific criminal investigations...

Law enforcement's talking points—often scripted by the company itself—trumpet their role in solving high-stakes crimes. But the data reveals a different story. What they're not saying is that ALPRs are also frequently used for extremely low-level investigations, such as verifying whether a student lives within a particular school zone. In some cases, police have even used this tech to conduct employment background checks and investigations into loud music complaints. Recently, a motorcyclist was even targeted for simply holding a cell phone while riding."

Saw Babymetal 7-18-25 at the Masonic in SF, and I was haunted for months

Good haunted, not bad haunted. 😉 I don't know how else to describe the feeling. I thought of the show every day, sometimes multiple times per day, and there was almost a sense of loss. Weird.

It was one of the best and most intense shows I've ever seen. Even though I'd listened to their music for years, it was a shock to hear it at concert volume while watching a show that was so perfectly executed and full of real emotion. Didn't matter that their performance was choreographed. I'd compare it to any of the best metal shows I've seen. And when they said goodbye, it warmed my heart. Name another metal band that has warmed your heart at a live show.

The only thing I know is (1) I was seeing metal evolve into something I had never imagined, and (2) I was sad to be 64 yo, the oldest fart at the show, knowing I won't be around much longer to see and hear the future of the genre they created.

Sorry for rambling. Anyone else feel more or less the same?

Sick of petty, greedy people who would even steal food from the poor

This morning I was in line to pick up food at a local food bank.* Everyone in line gets one shopping cart, and one allocation.

Two people were ahead of me, and it was obvious that they were either husband and wife or brother and sister.

First off, they got two carts and acted like they didn't know each other.

The man went first and picked up his limit, but I noticed that he also brought his own large cloth bag. The woman kept insisting that she needed more, and the volunteers were more accommodating than they should have been. Whenever a volunteer said "That's all the [item] you can get", the man would slip items into his large cloth bag and ask a different volunteer for those items he already had.

Just one example: Every family is supposed to get one container of milk, and these 2 assholes used their bluster and deception to grab 5.

To top it off, they showed up well-dressed. Might as well have been wearing hats that said "FUCK YOU. I'M ENTITLED TO MORE THAN YOU."**

*I go to a food bank once a week. Never thought I would need one, but here I am. Pride is irrelevant when one is hungry, can no longer get a job due to certain limitations, and has a family to feed.

**They MIGHT have been feeding a family of 10, but they were older and did not look or act like the type of people who would have any children. How TF they will finish 5 quarts of milk before they expire, I don't know.

/edit: clarify

Took a break a year ago, want to play again, looking for opinions

I loved 76 wayyy too much and my time spiraled into something harmful that cut into more important things in my life. So I had to go cold turkey. Not complaining! That's my fault, and it's a testament to just how *great* this game and its community are.

OK, also, because I'd been everywhere and seen everything, and I was stuck in the limbo between "casual player" and "Angry Turtle follower who spends even MORE time fine tuning stuff".

Anyway. Before I reinstall, I'd like to hear your opinions on the best reasons to do so, based on new content, bug fixes, map expansions, new events, whatever. I know I'm asking for a lot, so please don't take too much time. Just your top of mind highlights.
