Stood up and hit head very hard on the corner of kitchen cabinet…what now?

I’m on apixaban 5mg twice a day. Someone left a kitchen cupboard open and as I stood up I hit my head on the corner quite badly. It jarred all of my neck muscles in the process. I wouldn’t think twice about this usually. But hey ho I’m 28 days into blood thinners - do I need to get checked out? It’s nearly bedtime here.

Please help.

Mum keeps impulsive spending...£200 here, £150 there...how do I stop it?

I don't think my mum is that bad, but then I notice she spends a lot. She tipped the hairdresser like £100.

Here's an interesting one - does playing computer games help or hinder anxiety?

For example,

Positives: escapism, flow state, distraction, drawing you out of yourself, a release
Negatives: some games are high octane, flight fight, pressure, levels, time limits etc...

Did stopping alcohol completely help?

I can never tell whether alcohol or even coffee make my anxiety better or worse, it's ever present to be honest. Did cutting the bad stuff out help you long term?

Hi everyone, I want to sell my flat, but wanted to check this clause in the estate agents terms "payment of fees" is standard practice?

"PAYMENT OF FEES

6.1 Our fees become due upon exchange of contracts. However, at our discretion it is acceptable to pay when you move, provided that you instruct your solicitors to pay us from the proceeds of sale on the day of completion. If in the unlikely event you fail to complete, the full fee remains payable at the agreed terms."

My concern is if I have multiple failed exchanges will I end up out of pocket?

Sorry everyone, first time selling a flat/home.

Many thanks

Does anyone here feel like they are a generalist - wishing they had become a specialist?

I feel like I’ve managed to get to 40 without becoming an expert in anything…I’m not a doctor, lawyer, teacher - I’m a hybrid, weird, generalist - pretty good at a lot of things but not a specialist in anything.

How do I overcome this regret / concern of having not specialised? And more importantly, has anyone experienced the same and got any advice to share?

How do you stop when feeding and giving into the compulsion just feels so damn good?

They say sit “sit in the uncertainty” & “thoughts are just thoughts” it’s the attention that feeds them.

But how do you stop when giving in frankly feels good, feels like it’s helping, gives my brain something to do. It’s like a drug.

Anyone else noticed this?

What happens when the thing you’re obsessing over is your mental health! It feels like there is no way out.

What happens when the compulsion is to ruminate and think over your mental health endlessly, researching it, thinking about it, asking if it’s normal. And therapy - is just reinforcing the loop because you’re engaging with it’

I know propranolol works incredibly well in the moment. Mine typically occurs when I have to present slides.

That said, I wonder if there is an underlying condition anyone has treated that also took care of the panic attacks. For example - Anxiety disorder/SSRI - ADHD/Ritalin.

For example the Anxiety disorder could be lifting the anxiety baseline and triggering panic.
The ADHD could be causing hyper focus on the fear, can't focus on the outside world or content.

Has anyone come across something similar?

After 15 years, I think I am kind of done, powerpoint slides, excels, high pressure presentations. I would love to hear from people that have transitioned out of the corporate ladder. Was it for better or for worse? I appreciate it makes budgets tighter, but did you care?

I understand that typically it's a bad idea - as you can put the money in stocks and share ISA's and earn a higher % than if you paid off the mortgage. It also keeps things more liquid so you can access the cash if needed rather than have it sunk into bricks and mortar.

That said, I know for a fact - 1. I can't continue in my high stress high salary job 2. My industry has a lot of uncertainty long-term as a career path 3. My mental health is definitely not 100%

My thinking is removing the mortgage from the equation takes the pressure off the outgoings. It therefore would give me flexibility to take lower paid work or part time work, as I wouldn't have to cover larger outgoings. It is up for renewal, so I can pay it off without any ERC's.

Given the above context - does that change peoples opinion on whether this is a good idea?

I could take a part time job/ low wage job and use the savings to make up the monthly mortgage payment, but then I am go course paying the interest as well.

I am really struggling with night sweats - the psych has diagnosed PTSD due to bullying/trauma - and prescribed Prazosin to help me sleep. That said I don't recall having any nightmares, and I don't remember why I wake up in the night.

Has Prazosin helped you sleep?

Hi there, I have created a thread for people to comment on who have successfully over come, or figured out the cause of their night sweats, so that others may benefit.

It may be as simple as you were getting older, and just getting hotter at night to something more serious that required treatment.

How did you cure your night sweats?

It is on my calf. At first I thought it was just a painful bruise, and I was wondering how an earth I had done it, but then the pain increased and the line went red. I just had the scan and they now confirm it looks like it has extended into the deep vein.

I'm in my 30's and yes recently my life has been a bit more sedentary than usual, but this has caught me off guard.

Hi there,

I have been experiencing night sweats every night for the last 3 months. They can be light, medium or heavy - there's no pattern. Most nights my t-shirt soaks through. I have been coping by sleeping under a blanket, instead of the duvet and not wearing a top.

My psychiatrist has suggested Prazosin - which I haven't yet started - but I am hoping this will help. I take a small dose of bisoprolol and buspirone.

Has anyone been dealing with this? I have never had a problem with sleeping and nightsweats before. I am male and hitting 40, so perhaps I am just getting old.

Side theory - My personal theory is I find work stressful, and my brain ruminates on work while I am asleep and this causes stress.

Any help or advice on this forum would be greatly appreciated and valued.
