Need help finding wizardy/witchy names that can also still sound normal

This is such a weird request but I’m pregnant with my second child. My first child has a pretty normal name, and I would like my second child to also have a normal name, but with a hint of magic to it. Something that won’t have people do a double take of, but also would be a bit wizardy/witchy. Basically I want to make it so that my child won’t be made fun of for a name like “Merlin” as much as I like that name.

Some examples of what I mean would be names like “Celeste”, “Astrid” etc for a girl and “Howell” (howls moving castle) “Cedric” for a boy.

So normal names that just sound like they could also be wizard names I guess would be the best way to describe it. I’m not looking for Harry Potter names, more just aesthetically wizard and witch names rather than from specific shows or movies. Does anyone have a list?

The last name is Robertson. Thank you!

Choosing to believe 99% of rage baiters are bots

For my own mental health, I’ve decided to assume that any stupid/rude/depressing comment is from a bot meant to demoralize people. Maybe it’s a juvenile way to see the world, but with the increase of fake accounts (there are more bots on some platforms than people on earth) and this being a known tactic to manipulate people, I’ve just decided to assume that everyone annoying online is a bot. It’s been pretty nice ever since I started just ignoring stupid people and assuming they are fake.

Obviously some annoying people are real, but it’s just easier to assume they’re not.

Anyone else find diclectin did absolutely nothing?

I was on the morning sickness pill that had a combined vitamin and antihistamine with my first pregnancy. I am now on my second pregnancy and I’m planning on not taking it at all.

It felt so pointless. I would take the pill and the taste of it would send me gagging bad. I noticed no difference whatsoever. My morning sickness lasted from around 6 weeks to 20 weeks and I spent most of it dry heaving and white knuckling things. I lost weight during it. What the fuck was diclectin doing??? I begged my doctor for another medication but that was all I got.

This time around, I’m asking for zofran if they try to offer me diclectin. I am not going through that horrible nausea again. I honestly would have been better off not taking it because the taste was enough to make me nauseous.

4w and had a sharp uterus pain when lifting heavy at the gym

I did something dumb which was doing a heavy lift that I wasn’t confident on. When I did it, I felt a bad uterus cramp. Like a twang. Has anyone else felt this?

My doctor is away for the next week so I don’t have any appointments until after.

Seeking a “rags to riches” book featuring magic

Hi! I’m looking for a book involving a “rags to riches” storyline where a character may start off very weak/poor, and through learning/practice/hard work or whatever, manages to climb the ranks to gain power.

I would like it to be a book involving magic. Children’s/young adult books are fine with me, though I would prefer something for adults. Do not let that dissuade you from recommending a kids book!

Books I have read that fit this theme: howls moving castle, Harry Potter series, dragon slippers, wizard of earthsea. Some of these fit the criteria more than others, I just wanted to mention them!

I have also read the game of thrones series but I do not feel that meets the rags to riches criteria.

Rituals for pregnancy?

I have been trying to conceive recently and finally got a positive test! So I am pregnant with my second child at the moment. I would love some ideas for small rituals I can do during pregnancy. If anyone has any ideas of where to look/what to start with, I would be happy to hear it! Thanks!

Second pregnancy- trying to stay fit

My first pregnancy was horrible. I had extreme nausea well into the second trimester, tachycardia, and other really rough symptoms. I also had extensive tearing during birth and it took me a year to recover (and I still have occasional pain).

I’m thinking of having another baby but I’m terrified to experience that level of suffering again.

During that pregnancy, I did absolutely no exercise and I got about 1000 steps a day, which is not good obviously. Currently I go to the gym about 6 days a week doing lifting, and I get about 10k steps a day. I’m just worried that I’ll be set back again. What are some strategies to help me stay active during pregnancy?

Pregnancy as an apprentice

I am just starting out as an electrical apprentice and I was wondering if pregnancy is something that would require me to stop working due to risk of shocks.

I am not currently pregnant, this is just something I was wondering.

4 year old having daily pee and poo accidents

I am desperate for help at this point.

I began potty training early at around 1 years old but never managed to get him to figure it out. I tried desperately once he was 2 (diaperless and monitoring him) which worked okay, but he didn’t seem to recognize that he needed to pee or poop.

He got into daycare at 3 and we switched from diapers to underwear a few months into that. And ever since then, he’s been having near daily accidents. Some days he will not have an accident but others, he poops or pees himself like 4 times.

I get I probably messed up somewhere down the line but everyone I speak to doesn’t have any good advice.

From what the daycare people tell me, he is distracted playing and doesn’t want to stop which leads to him peeing himself.

I even got him a watch that buzzes every hour to remind him to use the potty. That lasted about a month and worked well but then he started taking it off and it got lost.

Like seriously. I am desperate. He is starting kindergarten soon and he is nowhere near fully potty trained. I don’t really understand why he’s not noticing that he has to go to the bathroom.

For those whose f/o’s have died in canon

(I’m sharing btw so if you like homelander too, please interact)

Okay I know this is a controversial f/o but I LOVE homelander so much and…. I think the ending of the show was bad for many reasons unrelated to his canonical death. I knew he was going to die eventually but I didn’t like the way they handled it, and I also thought it was just a shit ending.

Anyway, how do you guys handle your F/O being canonically dead if you have one that is? And also, how do you handle with not liking the ending of the source material?

Does anyone else also have lipedema and HS but is also thin?

This might be a confusing post.

I have stage 1 HS and stage 1 lipedema, but I am not overweight. Both of these issues are due to inflammation and they are associated with obesity, but my bmi is 22 and I go to the gym 6 days a week! 6 days! I get about one hour of cardio in every day as well as strength training and I’ve gained a significant amount of muscle in the last year. I also eat a high protein low processed foods diet. Despite this, my legs still have the mild lipedema look even though my upper body is defined and you can see my abs now.

I’m just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat or not. I feel kind of helpless because I’m doing everything ‘right’ and yet I have these two issues.

Legs not losing weight despite losing fat everywhere else

A year ago I got a dexa scan which measures muscle, bone and body fat. I was skinny but with no muscle so I had a high body fat despite being slim. I was 38.8% body fat with a bmi of 20.

One year later I am 33% body fat and I weigh 10lbs more than I did. However the dexa scan has shown that while I’ve lost weight in my arms and core, I lost no weight in my legs at all. For reference I have about 20lbs of fat total in my legs and that hasn’t changed despite losing significant fat in other areas.

How can I lose fat in my legs while dealing with stage one lipedema? I am in Canada and none of the surgeries are covered here.

Is anyone else normal bmi but high body fat?

I have diagnosed stage 1 HS. I don’t have any other triggers that I’m aware about. I’m not overweight, I don’t smoke, my diet is pretty good. The only issue is I sweat nonstop tbh. I could be cold and I’ll just be sweating constantly. Also I believe my HS is mainly triggered by hormones.

But I have low muscle mass so my body fat percentage is high even though I’m very slim. I fit into small/medium for reference. could this be the cause?

Aggressive child at daycare

Hi

There’s an aggressive child at my son’s daycare. He threw a metal object deliberately at my child which cut my child’s lip, he has strangled my child, and my child often comes home complaining about this specific child. I’ve called CPS about this kid, I have called the daycare licensing authority, and I also filed a police report due to the severity.

The school said they would do a better job keeping them separated but my child had another incident where their watch (a buzzing watch to remind them to potty) was stolen by that child. My child also said that they are continuing to be punched and attacked at daycare.

At what point are the teachers allowed to kick the child out? I feel like this is really too much. I tried to apply to new daycares but there are none taking new applicants. I just started a new job and I’m beyond stressed. My child is having daily accidents due to the stress of being bullied and I have no idea what to do.

I’ve spoken to the director but I’m not sure she is taking it seriously in my opinion. Whenever I go to the school the teachers are being hit and attacked by the children which just seems really odd.

Finally got a diagnosis- given lidocaine gel

As we all know, HS doesn’t have a cure yet. My HS is stage one and fairly well managed except for my hormonal cycle, so I don’t need biologics or anything drastic. But has anyone used gel lidocaine? This seems like a game changer. I never thought about using a numbing gel as a tool for hs but it makes so much sense. My Hs is on my groin so sitting and walking (and gym) can be uncomfortable during a flare. They’re so small that they usually resolve on their own so having a way to numb the pain would be great. What are your experiences with this?

This is what skinny fat actually looks like

Hi everyone. I have a CONFIRMED body fat of 36% according to a dexa scan. This is a picture of me at the gym. Since one year ago, I’ve put on 12lbs of muscle. My bmi was always normal and I always had an hourglass figure which is why I didn’t realize how unhealthy I was. My starting body fat was 38%

The whole point of being skinny fat is that you will look absolutely normal. At my worst, I had visible abs! Because the problem with being skinny fat isn’t the fat part, it’s the low muscle. So despite having a 27 inch waist and 38inch hips, I was so unhealthy. I have been eating protein and trying my best to body recomp. It is so slow because muscle takes time but I’m proud of myself for gaining 12lbs of muscle. It shows that I’m making progress even if it’s slow. I had severe muscle atrophy from bedrotting so that’s why it got so bad. My starting muscle mass was 86lbs, and my goal is to be over 100lbs, ideally 110+ but that will take a lot of time. I’m currently sitting at 98lbs of muscle which is so much better for my health. For reference, I was in the lowest percentile for muscle for women my age (1st percentile)

If anyone wants advice, just comment. I won’t ask for you to pay, I just like to help people because when I was starting out I was so discouraged. I would love to be someone’s motivation to get better.

My favorite representations of NPD

Spoilers for digital circus episode 9, hazbin hotel season 2, and also the show the boys. Yeah I know some people don’t like these shows, and I have my criticisms of them, but just ignore that for now.

My favorite examples of NPD are in these shows. There are 3 characters I’d like to compare with each other. Caine, from the amazing digital circus, Vox from hazbin hotel, and Homelander from the boys. Again, if you haven’t watched these shows yet, there will be spoilers ahead. Please be mindful if you don’t want to get spoiled.

Homelander has been one of my favorite examples of blatant NPD. He has a super obvious case of it and I don’t think anyone would contest that. The entire show is spent building up his ego and giving him a genuine god complex, only for it to fizzle out into a collapse in the last episode. TBH, I did not like the last episode for storyline reasons and I felt that it was a weak ending, but this post isn’t about that. In terms of homelanders characterization, I felt that his death scene showed a pretty accurate narcissistic collapse. It wasn’t perfect, and the show is definitely not one I’d recommend for other reasons, but I’m curious about other people’s thoughts.

Yesterday, I saw the last episode of the amazing digital circus in theaters. Caine is the main antagonist in the show. He is essentially a rogue AI that is trying to keep the humans that are trapped inside his program happy. He is by far my favorite representation of NPD. He is actually not very malicious until he reaches a breaking point in the penultimate episode and proclaims himself god. Before that, there are only glimpses of his rage and anger. To me, he is a great example of probably a majority of people with NPD, since he’s not super malignant like everyone assumes NPD is like. He’s quite self centered, but does attempt to make people like him. He fails time and time again. In the penultimate episode, the humans who are trapped inside his program delete him. It’s revealed in the last episode that he wasn’t actually deleted, just moved to a null zone. In that area, he reflects on his actions and actually attempts to change for the better. He returns to the humans and after a little while, they accept him back and have a positive relationship. I love seeing this in a character that has NPD traits. I think this is something I really appreciate in a show and I definitely needed to see that recently. I also think Caine has auDHD so it’s not solely NPD that he has, but still counts as good rep for me.

Finally, Vox from hazbin hotel. Again, regardless of your opinion of the show, I do like Vox as a character. He’s kind of a cocky Wall Street type, almost like Patrick Bateman. He also has a god complex. Season 2 almost solely focuses on that. He manages to attack heaven in his goal of taking the throne, and long story short, the plan ultimately fails. His friends stop him from essentially killing himself on the death mission and he suffers pretty bad collapse. The fallout of that collapse isn’t explored much due to it happening close to the end, but I’m sure the next season will show more about it.

What I noticed about these characters is that homelander has no friends, yet the other two examples do. Caine had a redemption arc, and I believe Vox is being set up for a redemption arc as well. I do think this is interesting and it makes sense. It is a lot easier to have toxic traits if you surround yourself with yes men and never actually have people stand up to you. Obviously it’s painful when you get criticized but I think everyone on this subreddit is trying to do better in life and I think that’s a good thing. Taking steps towards that is hard but worth it.

All of these characters have god complexes which is one of the main things that makes them relatable to me. I’ve been known to kind of have one at times and seeing the ways it’s explored is pretty interesting, even though I still have a god complex at the end of the day. Not a delusional one, I don’t think I’m actually god or anything, but I definitely…. I don’t know, I guess I have aspirations lol.

Ultimately, these are just shows and they’re not going to accurately depict a complex disorder like NPD, but regardless, I think it can be fun to examine them and try to compare and differentiate between the examples.

Let me know your thoughts.

Feel hot/wet feeling on sciatic nerve on one side after gym injury

Just a word of warning about Romanian deadlifts. I have extremely tight hamstrings due to sciatica, not from muscle issues and I did an exercise called Romanian deadlifts. I lifted very heavy and probably with bad form. I overextended my sciatic nerve in my leg and now I have a very odd sensation. It feels as though someone poured a warm/hot liquid down my left thigh randomly throughout the day. I’ll be driving or walking and suddenly have the sensation that there’s a warm liquid running down my left leg. Obviously there’s nothing actually there when I check. This is apparently a symptom of sciatic nerve irritation and I know my previous day at the gym was the cause.

Im going to ice it now and hope for the best. A few people have mentioned this symptom on reddit and it seems like there’s no major consensus, but in my case I know exactly what caused it. Please be careful at the gym and substitute Romanian deadlifts for something that is more friendly for sciatica.
