If time is relative, and gravity was strong during the beginning of the universe, then where does “13.8 billion years old” come from?

Because if time is running differently in different parts of the universe and the universe as a whole has undergone shifts in time dilation then what exactly is the absolute referent?

How to go about restringing this cheap 7 string lyre?

I am gettin this lyre as a beginner. But I don’t really want steel strings. Was gonna swap out for Nylon but idk anything about restringing a lyre.

Do I need special strings? How do I know which strings to put where? That stuff

Is it a bad idea to get an Anglo Saxon Lyre if I have 0 music knowledge?

Hello, I really enjoy the sound of this instrument and also the limited strings (especially in videos where nylgut is used).

Lots of videos of this instrument being played has caught my interest but sadly it seems that it’s pretty niche and there’s probably even fewer learning resources compared to more common lyres.

So I was wondering…. I have no musical knowledge. I barely have a concept of what a “chord” is. Or a “scale” or anything like that. Or what the letters mean. Think it’d be unwise to take this instrument up?

Lyre is my first instrument. Is tuning it supposed to be this maddening!?

I just got my first instrument: an acoustic 19 string diatonic lyre.

I am tuning it and it’s crazy! The tuning pins have this annoying amount of friction where when I use the socket tuning wrench it either doesn’t move or moves too much. Like I build up pressure and then it “gives” and goes too far. But if I don’t put pressure then nothing will happen

And then! By the time I got the last string tuned, other strings are now no longer in tune. It’s like plugging 19 holes of a sinking ship using only my fingers.

Is this normal? I got mine from Brandon John Luthery which seemed to have good reviews and backing. Looks like this but with different colored wood: https://www.etsy.com/listing/4294999012/19-string-acoustic-lyre-sugar-maple?ref=shop_home_feat_2&pro=1&frs=1&sts=1&logging_key=d4addd1d2e6486591bbed1675f7df30b9eed3223%3A4294999012

Ended up taking me over an hour just for it to all be out of tune in the end anyways

What forms of meditation can I do to invoke profound changes in conscious experience?

Now I know this question invites many people who enjoy putting such curiosities down with the usual dogmas surrounding various forms of praxis and popular philosophy:

“Meditation is about being aware of whatever enters consciousness in the present”

“Meditation is not about escape into intoxicating effects or dream-lands”

“Your desire for these states should be the focus of your attention; obsession with such states is a distraction from the path”

“Everything produces profound changes in consciousness”

“It is unsafe to seek altered states of consciousness”

I know these common objections. Yet I persist. I put them here ahead of time so you know I am not unfamiliar. I know that I am responsible for myself and I know the potential consequences.

So, that all being said, what methods of meditation do you recommend? I do understand that “profound changes” is vague and that’s fine. For this is the beginning of investigating the whole affair at an experiential level. So I do not need to hone in on one specific profound conscious state. Any will do.

Thank y’all!

Looking to rebuild math skills at 28 as someone barely got through Algebra 2 in highschool.

Hello, I really struggled with math back then. Other than geometry. But even that I probably do not remember. I want to brush up on my math abilities - actually rebuild and relearn from scratch is probably more accurate.

Since I have lost a good amount of knowledge from highschool - even pre-Algebra 2 stuff - I will probably need to start with pretty basic stuff.

My goal is pretty far. Basically, I find metaphysics to be a cool subject. This lead to an interest in physics to inform metaphysical ideas. But physics relies on math once you get to a certain point and basic understandings of theories can’t really be expanded on without mathematical knowledge. So that lead me here.

I don’t wanna get in over my head. I remember being very lost as soon as we started working with graphs and x,y coordinates in class. But I also had a shitty home life so school was mostly dissociation station.

Do the fal’Cie have free will? (I have only played the first game)

It’s been a while since I have played FF13. But the image of the absolute desperation that that fal’Cie have in seeking God pops in my head from time to time. So many in pursuit, searching every crevice, carving up the land, building a nest to raise countless human sacrifices.

But I am uncertain what kind of beings fal’Cie are. They seem a little limited in agency but maybe this is only the ones we see in Cocoon since they are all plugged into the this interconnected system. Even so, could any of them just quit? And, I may be forgetting or maybe it is or isn’t expounded upon in the sequels, but how did they get their tasks in Cocoon in the first place?

Are the ones outside Cocoon any better? The one who searches the cliffs of Pulse seems to be going for eternity. Same with the underground one.

The idea of them having to work *through* humans to some extent is interesting to me. Because it implies that there is some fundamental lack there in these grand beings that they need humans for.

Any input would be cool!

[POEM] Honey by Robert Morgan

Everything after “No bee full of sweetness wants to..” is so perfect to me. I love all of the x’s, c’s, ct’s, t’s, k’s, and s’s. And the image is really cool too!

Looking for ambient music with a sort of minimal strumming or plucking of a stringed instrument with contemplative or meditative mood

Edit: Idk why my links aren’t working as they should. Looks messy…

I recently discovered this album by Robert Rich and Lisa Moskow:

[Yearning](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy\_ljPRpCxGVF1-tgK243kl6XtvQ\_PeLGdQw&si=PL9msEPkvxl675tF)

I love these a lot. I am unsure what the exact instrument is but anything like it would be really cool. But I will look into anything similar and keep my title vague for maximum coverage.

What’s a good book on modern physics for a metaphysics reader?

I’m looking for an accessible book on modern physics aimed at general readers. My goal isn’t to learn the math or become a physicist, but to develop a better intuition for concepts that often come up in metaphysics and philosophy of science. I do understand that the math can’t really be avoided in much of the discourse so I will take what I can get.

I’m especially interested in topics like quantum mechanics, subatomic particles, fields, spacetime, and other counterintuitive aspects of modern physics. Accuracy is more important than sensationalism.

In theism, is reality “subjective” because it rests upon the mind of God as the ground of all Being? Does that make it solipsistic?

Subjective means “mind-dependent” according to Meriam Webster. God is the supreme mind.

Theists believe in a subjective reality while (most) atheists believe in an objective reality

Reality cannot be other than what God has made it to be or is sustaining it to be via God’s mind. God either decided to create or decided to create specifically what he has created. God can manipulate the world at will, especially if we are to believe in miracles.

All things rest upon the mind of God. Such that the only real entity is God. Much like a dreamer’s dream. Every experience being contained within God as the ground of all being. So, truly, all of existence can not be otherwise than God perceives and experiences it. All of existence is subjective to God. This is solipsism.

Additionally, is not the majority of supernatural phenomena best described as subjective? Souls (minds) intervene upon the physical plain to control matter (in ways not aligned with the laws of the physical world - else there would be no real control; only laws playing out). This makes the movement of (human) bodies a subjective phenomenon. Same with miracles, a mind moves reality however it pleases.

Anyone know anything like The Mystery from the NGNL OST?

I love the sort of cerebral spaciousness it has. Gives me a feeling of being in my head trying to figure something out. Putting the pieces together. That sort of thing

[HELP] Looking for more collections like A Book of Luminous Things by Czeslaw Milosz

Hello, I am pretty new to poetry and got this anthology. Lots of poetry I have read before this seemed kinda hard and not the most accessible. Or the poems would be super long and filled with old timey language.

This collection though is basically perfect. Of course I have my preferences in the book of which I like and don’t like. But the lengths are great (usually less than a page and at most 2 pages). Even the ones I don’t care for I still feel like I understood.

Anything like it?
