How do I sort out this problem ?

Situation goes like this ...

Late on the evening of Saturday 15 Aug I placed an online order for delivery.

There were three items in it, and it made the $35 minimum for delivery. All three of the items were relatively heavy (but no water).

Fulfillment warehouse (Davenport FL) filled the order early on Sunday 16 Aug. Order details show they broke the order into two packages (likely to divide the weight).

Packages left Lakeland FL early on Monday 17 Aug (presumably enroute to local store). Of the two packages, one was delivered late (after dark) on Monday 17 Aug. It was delivered to an old package box which is located 400-500 feet from the new package box †, The new package box has had prior deliveries, and is correctly located via the pin drop and description.

When I noticed the delivery notification (about 90 minutes later, and just as I was about to go to bed), I immediately recognized the old package box (in the delivery photo) because it was a different color. So I grabbed a flashlight and a cart and went and retrieved it.

When I opened the package, I discovered that Davenport fulfillment had swapped the shipping labels. The package received contained two or the three items ordered. Online says I received a package that has one item, and the other package (that tracking thinks has two items) is Delayed.

No delivery on Tuesday 18 Aug. I've tried repeatedly to reach the store, but no one ever picks up. All I get the AI menuing system. Lots of long rings, then an announcement about heavy call volume, and drops the call.

If the package is at the store, I will be there on Thursday morning, and happily pick it up. Right now I'm unable to reach a live human down there to try to sort out if they have the missing package or not.

How do I resolve this ?

† My hunch is that FedEx or Uber may have delivered that, but not positive.

  • I flaire-ed this as Delivery, but actually it crosses multiple subjects.

Detailed WFO forecast pages appear to be broken

I can load my local WFO landing page here

When I try to click on any of the counties in the WFO coverage detailed forecast map, I get back Sorry, an unexpected error occurred. Same basic response if I use the bookmarked link for my specific location.

Muscadines !

Found growing wild alongside the road, in north Florida. These were ones I could reach from ground level. Saw two-three times that many more, but were up higher.

USA gulf coast VHF is open, morning of 6 Aug

I'm seeing lots of APRS beacons, plus an FM broadcast (100 miles away) is coming in strong. Suggestion is that 6m and 2m may be open this morning.

sources for 8-inch standard rain gauge

Does there exist a list of sources for the NWS 8-inch Standard Rain Gauge ? I found one company in northern California, but they have no prices listed, and want a prospective buyer to submit a RFQ. Does anyone else sell/produce this item ?

Is the President a member of the armed forces ?

The term President (note the upper case spelling) is mentioned a large number of times in the UCMJ. The President is saluted by military officers and enlisted personnel. The President is specifically spelled out in a list of positions in which a military individual can be tried for Contempt.

I am aware that the President is elected, but I also aware that he carries the rank/title of Commander in Chief.

edit: after some research this is what I have learned.

There have been two eras with this term, and how it was used.

In 1775 (prior to the Constitution) the Second Continental Congress assigned to George Washington the title Commander in Chief of The Continental Army. He was not President at that time. Prior to becoming President, he relinquished that title, and it passed to someone else.

The modern era, where the President is also the Commander In Chief, began with the National Security Act of 1947. No president in either era has ever worn a military uniform while they were President.

As far as I can tell, prior to 1947, no President was ever called Commander In Chief.

Reviews are wonderful, reviews are problematic

The way that reviews are structured, it is about a specific seller, selling a specific product, on a specific listing. Many items being sold on Aliexpress are being sold by a multitude of sellers. Reviewing only the product, and not the seller, will never be seen on the listings of other sellers, who sell the same exact product. To be clear, this is not different from any other site with a similar arrangement, but the current way that reviews are organized is problematic. Because, if I have something good to say about the product, or something bad to say about the product, it is never seen beyond that one listing.

I'm not sure how this could be solved, but when I discover something about the product it really needs to be seen anywhere that product is being offered for sale. Even the same seller, selling the same item on more than one listing, the reviews are not cross-shared.

For a small power relay, does reducing coil voltage affect sensitivity ?

Specific relay is a Mann Hwa style LY2-NJ with a AC 220v-240v coil. Coil current appears to be 10 mA. Actual line voltage at input is ~244v AC 60 hz. Datasheet suggests Reset time is ≤ 20ms.

If I were to place a 3.6K/3W power resistor in series with the coil circuit (with a calculated drop of 36v, and pd of 360 mw), the resultant coil voltage will be ~208v AC. That is within the 80% minimum (220v @ 80% = 176v) to engage the coil.

Will the reduction in coil voltage cause the release to be more sensitive to power line drops (e.g. during a storm) ?

My only real issue, is that sometimes the offer page doesn't tell me everything I need to know

A case in point, AE listing # 3256807958618869

As far as I can tell, the relay unit is good/great, but nowhere does it say what the range of wire sizes are applicable for the terminals on the base. Certain other products I've purchased do, but that DIN rail base does not. After a bit of looking at other sellers listing the same item, I found that one had a reproduction of a manual from the manufacturer (Mann Hwa relays). That told me the screw sizes on the base, and some of the dimensions, but not the wire size. Wire sizes can be expressed in square-mm or AWG. I have a chart to convert one into the other. For now, I'm going to do trial-and-error to figure this out.

N398AM on the pad at 0FL3 (Old Town EMS Heliport)

Image taken at 0810 EDT on 23 Jul 2026. Rotor was turning, and I waited a few minutes, but they were in no hurry to lift off. About 30 minutes later, as I exited a nearby business, I heard them lift off, looked up, watched the heli circle about a mile out, then returned to the EMS pad. Possibly a check flight.

Shop-Vac wet hose attachment, for narrow spaces

For a number of years, I've had a need to remove moisture from tight places (usually when cleaning crud from the AC system). Using duct-tape was not practical, and it ended up with adhesive stuck to everything. Then I realized the solution was to trim a few shims from a pool noodle. They have the right amount of flex, can be trimmed to the size needed, and are cheap to replace. First photo shows the vac hose 3 bits of noodle, and a thick poly hose. Second shows the poly hose partialy inserted using two bits of noodle, third is the finished product. It's great for cleaning the AC, and for excess moisture in the bottom of old refrigerators, and easy to take apart for flushing afterwards.

Are there any reports of the seismic magnitude of underwater tests ?

USGS measured a seismic event off the coast of Ponce Inlet, Florida today here. It has been tentatively identified as a US Navy Full Ship Shock Test, and mostly because of the seismic signature and the location of where it originated. How does the M3.9 compare to any of the underwater nuclear tests in the Pacific Ocean ?

Motor start relay specs

Situation is that I have a submersible well pump motor (1 HP, 230v, single phase, 3-wire) sitting about ~40 feet down the shaft. Both the pump and the Sta-Right controller box are ~25 years old. Maybe 3 years back I replaced the motor start cap, which happened to be available locally at a fair price. I'm now looking at what else could fail (mostly due to age) and want to keep a few spare parts on hand.

The motor start relay (the precise one) apparently is no longer made, and anyone having one for sale wants a steep price. The one in question has the following specs: hot-pick-up 221-250v, dropout 35-77v, coil resistance 4080Ω. I have located a seller with the following available (as new old stock): hot-pickup 203-231v, dropout 35-77v, coil resistance 4080Ω, and at a reasonable price.

The line voltage, at the well head and with the pump not running, measures 245v. Can I use the one with the slightly lower hot-pick-up voltage ?

thanks in advance
