If you could choose to have been born cisgender, would you?

I’ve been wondering about something and I hope it’s okay to ask. I’m genuinely curious about how different trans people feel about this.

If you could have magically chosen, from birth, to be born cisgender as the gender you identify with—for example, a trans woman being born a cis woman—would you personally have preferred that? Or would you still choose the experience of being transgender, knowing everything it entails? Is the fact that you started in one place and ended up in another important to you? Or would you sometimes prefer to have started out as the gender you identify with from the very beginning?

Is there an untapped audience for Gothic 2 Remake. Poll:

Hey everyone, just curious about something. There's this theory G2R may have the potential to attract an audience G1R has failed to mobilize and I wanted to test that theory. If you have time maybe you could shed some light on the issue with a vote.

Thank you and "Pass auf deinen Rücken auf!"

Hat also alles gepasst.

Also habe ich reinen Tisch gemacht.

Progressives of today will be relentlessly hounded by progressives of tomorrow

There's this ongoing trend of portraying older generations as dumb or naive for the beliefs they held or still hold onto. They are belittled and berated for knowledge that had not yet been gained when they were alive, and are accused of being bigoted for opinions that would only change decades after their death.

But here's the thing. One day it will be your turn. People from future generations will mock the ideas you hold dearly with the gift of hindsight. Your understanding of gender, politics, ethics and art. The things you just lectured grandpa about will all be scoffed at by some know-it-all high schooler a few decades from now.

The septum ring that you're wearing. You. Yes you. It's the codpiece of the future. A Mullet in the making.

Question about gender reveal

Hi i have this weird question that ive been thinking about.

A friend of my wife works as a gynecologist in a Western European country. This includes a lot of prenatal care, including determining the gender of the baby.

According to her, quite a few times when she tells patients that the baby is a girl, they subsequently ask for a termination. Because of this, she will sometimes pretend that she cant determine the gender until after the legal limit for termination has passed. She says she does this especially often with patients from conservative religious backgrounds, particularly migrants from the Middle East or Asia.

Is this ethical or is she overstepping her boundaries? I honestly dont know what to think about it.

So how do we feel about the women in Gothic two months post launch.

I gotta be honest I was quite on the fence before release, but Alkimia pleasantly surprised me with how they handled the game.

The game as a whole may not be as pulpy as the original which is definitely something I miss at times. And that shift is naturaly reflected in some of the character designs, including the women. Within this new stylistic approach though Alkimua have clearly made an effort to balance the old and the new. They made the women more attractive after the initial fan backlash, giving them outfits and appearances that feel appropriate for their roles in the world. No sugarcoating, no cliches. Just the grounded, believable writing Gothic has always been known for. That's my impression at least.

But what about you? No matter which side of the debate you were on has Alkimia managed to address any concerns surrounding the women's appearance? Are the female characters now fully fleshed out? Do they feel like well-rounded, believable characters who naturally fit the setting? I'd like to hear what you think and what you would want from future remakes.

If you were a convict and had to chose a living space...

...which one would it be and why? If I had free choice, I think I would pick Santino's hut. It's one of the more spacious living quarters in the Colony. It's above street level and built directly into the castle wall, with a sturdy door, which makes it seem much safer than many of the open huts we see throughout the Colony.

The sleeping area looks quite comfortable and clean, and you have immediate access to the social center of the outer ring, ie the marketplace. Plus, thanks to the secret entrance to Gomez's wine cellar, you basically have an unlimited supply of booze. And there's even a balcony where you can smoke a roll or two of swampweed in the evenings.

Anyway, what do you think? Are there any living spaces that are more to your liking? Maybe Cavalorn's hut outside of town, Gomez's luxurious living chambers, or a cozy hut high up in the trees of the Sect Camp?

What's the relationship of the Sleeper to the other Gods, escpecially Beliar?

I've been thinking about this for some time now. Where do we place the Sleeper in Gothic's pantheon?

Surely he isn't an apostle or servant of Innos or Adanos, but he doesn't seem to act on Beliar's behalf either, despite his familiar appearance. He is never portrayed or described as a servant of Beliar. If anything, he comes across as Beliar's equal or even his rival. At the same time, worship of the Sleeper seems to be limited to the orcs on Khorinis with no presence elsewhere in Myrtana, Varant or Nordmar. At least that we know of.

What does the Sleeper tell us about Gothic's pantheon in general? Are there more than three gods? Is he simply an incredibly powerful herald of Beliar who went rogue? With similarly powerful heralds of Innos and Adanos existing somewhere out in the Void? The whole thing is very confusing.

------------------------------------------------------ Update -----------------------------------------------------------

Thank you all for your insightful comments, interpretations and ideas. The common theory seems to establish a connection between Beliar and the Sleeper as his champion or avatar, a role the undead Dragon would later assume in G2. The same way the Nameless Hero is a champion of Adanos or Innos (depending on who you ask) the sleeper is a beast of Beliar too. And while I see that connection in OG Gothic I do not see this connection in the remake. I relistened to the dialogue of Ur-Shak and Ur-Nazkrog both in German and English and I find it to be contradictory to the "champion of Beliar" theory.

Ur-Shak:

>"Krushak is powerful, as powerful as Balyar. I believe that once Krusha is fully woken, I beleive Krushak needs no sacrifice to break into this world."

>"But no, they were too proud to see it – thought they could wrangle Krushak like a biter to do their bidding! But one does not tame the inferno, because fire does not care what god you worship."

So Ur-Shak not only sees the sleeper as an equal to Balyar in regards to power, which makes the "servant" hypotheis unlikely. He also never establishes a connection between the two in regards to loyalty. The opposite apparently. There is none to any of the gods.

Ur-Nazkrog:

>"We are but mortals morra and Krushak is a god. We could not understand his will even if we tried*."*

Again, a confirmation of godhood combined with the suggestion, that the Sleepers motives are his own.

Now I am fully aware that a lot of this depends on how reliable we see these two as narrators. Are their believes correct or are they simply not capable to see the bigger picture here. But I feel like they are telling the truth. Both in a metacontext, as they serve as exposition dump in the game and "lying" to your audience is ususally not what you do in such a scenario. And also in lore as Orcs worship the sleeper and Beliar, meaning they would have no problem making a connection between the two if there was one. If the orcs are not correct, which info in the remake woul you say suggest the connection "champion of Beliar" connection that undoubtedly existend in the original.

How did Kalom and his followers get past the orcs?

Let alone past the barrier that needs to be opened by Uriziel? I've only plaid the finale once and I chose to enter the temple behind the Orcs' back >!with Muk's help!<. Is there an explanation how the fanatics got to where we encounter them in the finale of the game? >!Thanks to me sneaking into the temple I had to kill both Ur-Nazkrog and To-Churnagg. Did I miss some dialogue because of that which would have explained things?!<

Edit 1: After seeing a couple of posts I still have questions but they are now more clear.

1.) Ur-Nazkrog saw you in her dreams and figured you were important to the awakening of the Sleeper. Still she required an Ulu-Mulu and for you to "create life from death" before allowing you to attempt to enter the sleeper temple. Why did Cor Kalom and his followers not need any of that? Even if we assume they also appeared in Ur-Nazkrog's dreams why did dozens of Novices get skip the line tickets?

2.) Why are there dead templars in the sleeper temple? Who killed them and why?

3.) Why are there novices behind the second barrier, the one that can only be destroyed by a recharged Uriziel. How did Cor Kalom bypass it? If the Sleeper is powerful enough to just let Cor Kalom through the secondary barrier why not through the primary barrier as well?

4.) Where did Cor Kalom an his followers go to after the seperation? In OG Gothic always assumed they headed straight to the temple. In the remake that would have been closed of by the primary barrier though.

5.) Why is the entire sleeper temple trying to prevent you from grabbing Uriziel, destroying the primary barrier, when said barrier is keeping the sacrifice (novices) from bein brough into the inner sanctum?

Suggestion to fix locks

Hi. I wanted to use this as an opportunity to suggest a quick solution to the lock puzzles without requiring the devs to rebalance some of the more tricky combinations out there and without having to change an otherwise quite fun mechanic.

Personally, I like the mechanic, but some locks are way too time consuming. If it takes me longer than 3 minutes, whatever is in that chest can stay there. I don't want to spend 10–20% of my time in the game breaking locks, even when my OCD feels very uncomfortable leaving a locked chest behind. But it slows the game down and kinda distracts me from what I really want to do. Explore the world and all it has to offer.

Either way, I'm suggesting that leveling Master Lockpicker adds a passive where every time you use up a lockpick, a random disc connection is broken and remains disconnected for as long as you pick that lock. This would mean that if you fail picking a lock over and over, it gradually becomes easier while still consuming lockpicks and requiring the player to pay attention. It would allow players to brute force a chest should they really, really want to know what's inside.

I think this would still reward people who are talented at this sort of puzzle without simply locking out other players. And yes, I know it's a skill issue. But I'm an old man with a wife, a baby and a toddler who can only play games when all of them are in bed, and I just want to make the best of my time enjoying a game that is otherwise growing on me rapidly in my second playthrough. Thank you for your consideration.

Does the G1R replace the original Gothic for you?

So I was wondering how you guys and gals feel about the G1R as a replacement of the original. Usually whenever I play remakes they tend to replace the original. For example with the existence of Diablo: Resurrected I never felt the need to go back and play the original. Same for Crash Bandicoot, Destroy all Humans, Dead Space or even more liberal remakes like Mafia.

This Remake however is different. After finishing it I immediately started a new run of the Original, albeit while running a few mods, because it simply hadn't satisfied my need for Gothic. My brain might register surface level similarities but G1R feels just too different. Like two seperate games losely connected by taking place in the same setting. One of which feels okay but ultimately pretty inconsequential. And the other which I would consider one of the most influental games of my life.

And before anyone says "Nostalgia". I regularly discover new games that manage to engage me with similar levels of intensity while being fairly new. Pathologic 2, Styx Master of Shadows, Days Gone, Blood West, Amid Evil, Remnant: From The Ashes. All games that I discovered well into my 20s and Early 30s which have had a similar impact on me as Gothic.

So I was wondering how you feel about this. Is G1R it? Does it replace the original for you? Is it everything you have hoped for? Or is there something missing?

Beziehungsprobleme wegen Gehaltseinbußen und unbezahlter Care-Arbeit (M37 sowie F29)

Hallo.

Is it fair to expect a higher earning spouse to compensate their partner for childcare.

Hi, I'm looking for some outside opinions from other parents.

I'm a married dad of two. I'm self-employed and work from home, so my schedule is flexible as long as I meet deadlines. The downside is my income depends on how much work I actually manage to do, and I usually get paid in chunks after finishing contracts or milestones. My wife has a regular job with fixed hours, including occasional night shifts when patients need urgent care. Because of that, I often take care of the kids during the week, which has reduced my work output quite a bit.

For us this isn't really a problem. We put all income into a joint account and share everything equally, so any drop in income is something we both deal with together. The reason I'm asking is because a friend of mine is in a similar situation. He is also self-employed, and we sometimes work together. His wife is a biochemist with a demanding job and frequent overtime. They're planning to have kids, but unlike us they keep finances separate, and she earns significantly more than he does.

They're now stuck. She says reducing her hours would hurt her career and isn't really possible. He would likely have to reduce his work or shift it to evenings and nights to take care of the kids, since daycare is extremely expensive in Switzerland. This has caused a lot of conflict. I suggested that if he reduces his hours for childcare, she might compensate him for the lost income, but she disagrees and says that's unreasonable. She has now started using birth control again until the issue is resolved.

Of course he is now asking for advice but I am not sure what to say since this wasn't an issue for me and my wife. What would you recommend him to do if you were in my shoes?

I'm not sure what to think. My wife and I never had this issue because we share finances, so I'm surprised how difficult this is for them. I'd be interested in opinions, especially from women in similar situations.

Edit: Since a lot of people seem to be getting hung up on the word “compensate”, English is not my first language. I’m not suggesting he should be paid a salary or anything like that, which I thought would be clear since my wife and I are not doing that either.

I was simply referring to the idea of combining finances, so that both partners share the financial impact equally rather than it falling mainly on him. In that sense, “compensate” just meant having joint access to shared income, even if one partner contributes more financially than the other.
