The Marionette is an item and doesn't have a gender
One gender argument that stuck around with the FNaF fandom is The Marionette.
Obviously, The Marionette is a girl when possessed because it's possessed by Charlie Emily. But what exactly is the gender of the animatronic itself?
UCN refers to The Marionette with "he/him", but the movie and FLaF refer to The Marionette with "she/her". This makes it's gender slightly confusing.
What people often forget when debating it's gender is that The Marionette is actually referred to with "it/it's" most of the time.
I think the answer is simple. The Marionette is genderless because it's an item. People (in-universe and fans) can interpret it's gender however they want, because it just doesn't have a gender.
Multiple sources make it obvious that The Marionette is a "thing" or "item".
In FNaF 2, The Marionette is a security item.
In the movie, The Marionette is an item that directs the animatronics through a wireless signal.
It's very different from the usual animatronics that perform on stage to entertain children. While Freddy, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy perform on stage/pirate's cove, The Marionette is an item that directs the animatronics (in the movie) or keeps children from wandering off (in the games).
Now, let's take a look at some moments where The Marionette is referred to with "it/it's" or "thing/item".
In the FNaF 2 night 2 phone call, Ralph calls The Marionette a"thing". He also refers to The Marionette with"it/it's" multiple times. If The Marionette had a known gender in-universe, i think Ralph would refer to The Marionette with that gender like he does with Foxy.
In the FNaF 2 movie, Vanessa refers to The Marionette with "it/it's" and "thing". Again, If The Marionette had a known gender, it would be a bit weird for people in-universe to keep calling it "it" instead of "her"/"him".
Even the BTS refers to The Marionette with "it/it's", meaning even the producers don't know the gender of the animatronic and just call it an "it".
In the official character encyclopedia, which is unfortunately not very reliable, calls The Marionette an "it". It even says The Marionette is an item instead of an animatronic that operates around the pizzeria.
My end conclusion is that The Marionette is an item. It doesn't have a gender. People in-universe and FNaF fans can refer to The Marionette however they want.
