What are some things in the books that you changed your perceptive on when you got older?

For me I now realize that Snape was 100% right to berate Harry for sneaking out to Hogsmead. It was a damn fool thing to do with what we knew at that time. Lupin might have been more effective with his scolding but Harry deserved to be called out.

Anyone just get tired of people?

During shift changes I have literally hundreds of people waking by my in a very short amount of time. Even on the rare occasion no one causes trouble I still just feel like I need an extended period of time some afterwards. I’m not the only one am I?

Would a work using a public domain character enjoy some form of copyright for that specific version ?

Say I write a new version of Zoro where the titular character is retired and living as a priest in a poor neighborhood who trains a successor who fights gangsters. Would that version of Zoro also be public domain or private ownership would copyright apply to that specific character?

What other hymns would you like the band to cover?

I loved their cover of “O come o come Emanuel” and wondered what other hymns could do with a skillet cover.

Personally I’d like to see This is my Father’s World

One thing that disappointed me in Deathly Hallows

Was how easily the cup and diadem were destroyed. The cup was destroyed literally off screen and diadem was destroyed by a hitherto unmentioned form of fire.

Meanwhile the snake and locket both had major character moments for Neville and Ron especially the later.

The locket and ring both had curses protecting the horcrux beyond whatever protected their hiding place.

The dairy’s destruction was the climax of an entire book.

It just feels like Rowling was running out of steam and just said “screw it! Ron speaks snake now! And the diadem gets destroyed because I said so!”

It’s a great book but part of me wishes we had more meat on the cup and diadem.

Can you seduce your way to royalty?

Is it possible to create an adventurer, seduce the kings daughter, have a child by her and then build an army and put that kid on the throne? Because I really want to do that

What’s the best way to deal with beggars?

What’s the best way to deal with beggars? On the one hand we’re supposed to be compassionate to the poor but on the other the chances are very high that any money we give the beggars will just go towards booze or drugs

this is not an assumption: I have literally seen a beggar I gave money to go directly into the ABC store and one time when I bought a beggar a meal the first words out of their mouth after getting it was “got any cash”. I don’t think feeding a person’s addiction is compassionate.

At the same time I always feel guilty when I refuse to give. What is the proper way to help people when they ask for money?

Anyone else have a contact list where said contacts won’t answer their fucking phones?

A trucker had a problem with their refer unit so I had to call a certain department to see what the next step was, I called this persons cell I called their department’s main line and nobody fucking answered. Meanwhile the truck driver, who was like all truck drivers very patient and understanding about policy, kept asking me when I’d know what to do.

The trucker, the fucking trucker from outside the company , got a response from the company before I did . I swear it’s almost like people don’t WANT to hear from security but only to blame them when something goes wrong.

Anyone else have this issue?

I hate the sound of air brakes and diesel engines

I work access control at a pork plant. 50% of what I do is get insulted and cursed out in 3 different languages when I ask people to follow the rules.

The other half is checking in truck drivers and making sure refer trailers on the lot are all within range. This means I have to hear air brakes all the time as truck drivers pull up and I have to hear scores of diesel engines running constantly (especially now that it’s summer).

Please tell me I’m not the only one who hates these sounds

[online] [other] [Saturdays EST] 3 more for a campaign set in Myrtle Beach SC

I need 3 more players for a DFRPG set in Myrtle Beach SC. While not mandatory familiarity with the book series will make the game much more entertaining and easier to understand.

Content Warning: adults only DFRPG goes to some dark places at times (dark, not edgy).

Idea for the plot of the next game: a Triwizard tournament.

Personally I’d like to see the next game dump the previous game and do its own thing. Set it back at the Hogwarts’ last time hosting the tournament (prior to book IV). Does that sound like a good idea?

OOTP should be renamed “Harry Potter and the lack of communication”

It’s my favorite book and now reading it as an adult I can see the underlying themes of a lack of communication.

  1. The ministry refuses to communicate the danger of Voldemort to the public letting him work in secret.

  2. Everyone refuses to communicate with Harry during the summer.

  3. Harry refuses to communicate with anyone over what he’s going through almost leading him to run away and eventually leading to disaster.

  4. Dumbledoor refuses to communicate with Harry over Voldy’s plans leading to him being entirely unprepared for the trap he sets.

If done poorly this could have been what’s referred to as an “idiot plot” but all of it was well justified by Rowling: Harry is a teenager, teenagers are stupid and reckless; Dumbledoor is an old man overburdened with responsibility and he made several costly mistakes; the ministry are panicked bureaucrats desperate to avoid having to make a decision.

Best book of a very good series!

Was doing well with my anxiety but sadly it’s come back.

How can I tell if it’s a bird or a bat? SE NC

There’s a flying animal in the warehouse where I work in Southeast North Carolina. It’s in pretty much constant flight and I can’t hear any sound coming from it but there’s loud machinery in the warehouse so it might be drowning it out.

It never stops flying that I can see so I can’t tell if it’s a bat or a bird for sure though I’m 90% positive it’s a bird, a killdeer to be precise. It’s brown and white with a forked tail and it’s pretty good at changing directions in bid flight. I had to duck the thing a few times while trying to open the door so it could get out.

Amy advice for figuring out what it is. I do suffer from health anxiety so anything flying around me makes me nervous lol.

I have read the FAQ. So above are the details of my encounter. Even though I’m 90% certain it’s a bird and 99% certain it didn’t touch me I still can’t get it out of my head.

Seeing a doctor might also be difficult as my boss doesn’t like me missing work since I’m the only reliable person my shift (my coworker takes very long “breaks” (😈🥬💨) ) and the only thing worse than my health anxiety is my unemployment anxiety.

Can we get some love for Molly Weasley?

I love hearing her tear Mundungus several new ones for sneaking those caldrons in and how she will gladly chew out her kids when they act up but fight like hell to defend them when they need help.
