Any local spots in the Woodlands that might draw support from either or both sides? TIA
Vancouver has always been one of my favorite cities in North America.
In 12 days since WC, we’ve seen Scottish bagpipes 🏴 take over Boston, the Dutch 🇳🇱 march through Houston humid sprawl, Brazil 🇧🇷 storm through Times Squsre, Japan 🇯🇵 throwing DFW block parties and eating Texas BBQ, Argentina 🇦🇷 taking over KC, German 🇩🇪 saxophone raves, Norsk 🇳🇴 viking rows, a Cinderella feel good team in 🇨🇻 etc.
How’s the city vibe there? I really to experience the World Cup in Vancouver
World Cup summers in NYC were my favorite summers and this is the first time I’m not a part of it so having major fomo
How much of a vibe bump is NYC getting this summer hosting the WC? recently asked r/askchicago about their thoughts about not hosting and responses ranged from “its fine” to “F Fifa”.
From the article:
1. After Coaching Change, Tunisia Is Still A Mess
Tunisia 🇹🇳 now exits this World Cup after getting severely outplayed in its first two games. It is hard to see Tunisia improving in the coming years without stability.
2. Japan Demonstrated Its Superb Tactics
This was not just a collapse from Tunisia, it was also a very strong performance from Japan 🇯🇵 , which looks like a team that can progress multiple rounds in the knockout stages.
In the first game, Japan looked equal to the Netherlands 🇳🇱 in a 2-2 draw. In this game, the team showed an elite instinct that is typical of top teams.
3. Japan's Biggest Strength? Its Depth
Another reason why Japan’s start to this tournament is so impressive is because of how many injuries have tested the depths of its player pool and how well the players have responded.
4. Goal Differential Will Matter In Final Games
Japan will now face Sweden 🇸🇪 , and the Netherlands will take on Tunisia.
If Japan and the Netherlands both win these final games (where they are both favored), it will come down to a race for goal differential. That favors the Dutch because Tunisia looks very disorganized and dispirited.
Japan will face a Swedish team that should be desperate for a result and will also want to manage goal differential if it falls behind.
In that final game, however, Japan could make a statement and give itself momentum heading into the knockouts. Based on this game, Japan is a team that nobody wants to play.
Dallas and Arlington brought their A+ game in hosting the World Cup. The neutrals came out and supported both sides in the most positive infectious way possible.
All the events were very well organized and the energy, from staff at the hotels to the randoms we met at 7-Elevens and Walmarts, everyone was extremely welcoming.
Hope to come back to Dallas and Arlington to see another game soon. Keep it up!

You have to be born in New York to be a New Yorker. Agree or no?
As a France 🇫🇷 supporter, this is good for both teams.

The Dodgers took Shohei Ohtani in 2023 despite the dismay of neighboring Angels fans.
Money is no object. Ever.
(Remember, California produced the Gold Rush.)
The Dodgers signed Ohtani to a 10-year, $700 million contract.
Mark Walter, majority owner of the Dodgers, paid a $10 billion valuation for the Lakers. It’s a good bet he squirreled away a few billion to lure more stars.
It's not all about money either. It's about the glitz and the glam. The weather and the beaches. About knowing the maître d’ who can get you the best table at the best restaurants.
Myles Garrett will be sitting at those tables, if that's the dining experience he wants.”
My partner ordered the house specialty (chicken shoyu) at Fukumi at KITTE Tokyo Station down in B1 the "Ramen Battle Zone" (Ramen Gekisenku)
1pm Friday lunch crowds were dying down. Maybe 10 minute wait at most. I ordered the spicy version but she easily got the better broth. The shop supposedly makes in-house noodles (straight) using premium Hokkaido wheat. Noodles were excellent
Definitely worth a stop

The JP legacy carriers were lockstep in raising fuel surcharges today (May 1 midnight JP time) and hikes are kinda brutal. Seems indefinite even past the summer.
To be fair, they did give media and public a heads up last week they had planned on doing this.
Happened to me mid-booking on ANA this morning. Scrambled to find a low Asiana/Korean Air ticket before they followed suit 10 minutes later.
Looks like Singapore Air routes to JP already priced in fuel costs a few weeks ago based on Google Flights data from LAX-TYO
Zipair hasn’t increased fares on the route I checked outside summer, but don’t expect fares shown today to last long.
Not sure how US and European airlines have responded yet.

Japan has asked the organizer of the World Baseball Classic, which sold exclusive rights to Netflix to broadcast the 2026 tournament in Japan, to consider ways to allow more people to watch the event in the future.
Before and during the WBC held in March, many people complained about not being able to watch Samurai Japan unless they subscribed to Netflix.
Unlike many other countries, the majority of top sporting events — including the Olympics, the FIFA World Cup and previous editions of the WBC — are broadcast free on major networks in Japan.
During the WBC, many sports fans gathered at restaurants and bars to share their Netflix feeds and watch together on smartphones and tablets. Sports bars largely refrained from showing the games, as Netflix said its services are limited to customers’ “personal, noncommercial use.”
The survey showed 67.5% did not subscribe to Netflix during the WBC and opted to keep up to date on the tournament in other ways. More than 71% of the respondents did not watch any of the games in real time, due in part to Netflix’s exclusive broadcast deal, the survey said.
When the university conducted a similar survey after the 2023 WBC — when Japan beat the U.S. in a dramatic championship game — 85.5% said they got excited talking about the WBC, compared with 35.5% this year.
