anyone who doesn't like ray of light here's your chance to come out of the woodwork. what don't you like about it?

for the record this is my favorite madonna album so I'm not about to give any hot takes myself.

but yeah if you don't like it I want to hear why. why am I asking? I'm just curious. I'm not going to judge you for your opinions and I hope the others here will also be respectful.

it doesn't have to be your least favorite to qualify, it only needs to be in the bottom half of her albums if you were to personally rank them best to worst.

alright now for a harder one. what would you rate american life (again the album) out of 10?

I'm in the middle of my first listen as I type this so I can't rate it yet but I'll leave a comment once I finish it at least, or maybe after 2 full listens. I can say it's kinda good so far. I definitely didn't hate the opener like people in 2003 apparently did. the cover art is probably my least favorite of hers though. like I see what they were going for but it wasn't executed that well. looks almost like a bootleg tbh.

anyone else find that some of his music puts them to sleep?

not out of being boring but some albums he's made are so relaxing that at times I'll put one on, get through a few songs, then suddenly wake up 4 hours later

what would you rate music (the album) out of 10?

I'd give it like a 7.5 or 8. more experimental was the right direction to go for her after ray of light. some of the songs have their odd bits but that's part of the charm imo, and it all comes together to make an album that can easily stand against what other pop stars were making in 2000

also the american pie cover from around the same time is so bizarre. I love it.

who is your favorite supergroup?

if anyone doesn't know, a supergroup is a band made up of members of other bands that they may or may not still be members of as well. a couple examples are Cream and Crosby Stills and Nash (and sometimes Young)

do you like foo fighters? how do they compare to nirvana for you?

I'm a big fan of their (his) first album because it feels very honest, and also still sounds a bit like nirvana. his reason for making it is touching.

but after that I've never felt too strongly about their music and always saw them as more of a singles band. like I'm very happy that dave was able to continue doing what he loved but even on their acclaimed albums like the colour and the shape I only find myself interested in the hits.

imo if nirvana is a 10/10 band then foo fighters is probably a 6.5/10 on average

I like be here now a little more each time I hear it. I feel like it I could eventually like it as much as the previous two once I adjust to the song lengths because I already appreciate the sound all the overdubbing gives it.

I also wanted to ask, has anyone here listened to it on coke? I feel like it would also sound better under that influence, since it's like you'd be hearing it the way they were hearing it.

I like give peace a chance but I recently saw a lot of people don't. I guess because it didn't achieve world peace, but I thought he was just wishing it would happen. maybe I'm reading too much into it. anyway, how do you guys feel about the song?

I think it's very funny that the album has both a song with a cure reference and a song featuring robert smith and the cure is neither of those

the cure is genuinely really good though it might be the best song she's ever made

which cygnus do you like more?

I've listened to both a number of times but I'm far from having a full grasp on them. I just know they both sound really cool

I really misjudged this album on my first listen, because on a second listen it's very solid

in some ways I like it more than four calendar cafe before it

do you like unwound? how do they compare to fugazi for you?

I've always felt the two bands had several similarities. hardcore bands with integrity, started off similarly angry but experimented with more sounds over time, all members great with their instruments, 7 albums each (if you count 13 songs as fugazi's first), both final albums sounding almost nothing like the early stuff yet considered among each band's finest work, and of course both extremely cool bands.

I also just read they had a mutual respect for each other so I thought that was nice.

many albums are front loaded, but what's an example of a back loaded album?

and for bonus if you can think of an album that's equally loaded in the front and back please post that as well!
