Declassified file on government’s search for the Ark of the Covenant

This 1988 Project Sun Streak document records a government remote viewing session in which the target was identified as the Ark of the Covenant.

The declassified file includes the evaluator’s comments, a session summary, handwritten notes and sketches created during the exercise. Whether you see it as intelligence history, Cold War experimentation or something stranger, it’s a fascinating read.

A 1976 military report says an F-4 lost its instruments while approaching a UFO over Tehran

Came across two military documents about the 1976 Tehran incident.

One is a Joint Chiefs of Staff message circulated through the Department of Defense. The other is a later Air Force article that retells the encounter.

According to the documents, an F-4 Phantom approaching a bright object north of Tehran reportedly lost its instruments and communications at about 25 nautical miles. A second fighter later obtained radar lock, reported additional objects separating from the primary target, and experienced its own equipment problems during the encounter.
I pulled together the documents, quotes, and timeline here:

The original paperwork is more interesting than most retellings.

The public could handle alien life, researchers conclude

For years, one of the most common arguments against disclosure has been that the public couldn’t handle it.

A new report from psychologists and researchers suggests otherwise. Drawing on public health, psychology and historical examples of major paradigm shifts, the authors argue most people would eventually adapt to confirmation of non-human intelligence.

The report’s most interesting claim is that the bigger risk may not be panic, but a crisis of trust.

Scientists have a plan for first contact

A group of international scientists recently updated a set of guidelines for what should happen if extraterrestrial intelligence is ever detected

The recommendations cover everything from verification and public disclosure to a question that’s surprisingly difficult:

Who speaks for Earth?

One provision recommends that no response be sent until international consultations have taken place.

Orange County’s forgotten UFO case

On Aug. 3, 1965, Orange County traffic investigator Rex Heflin was driving near Myford Road in Santa Ana when he reported seeing a strange object in the sky.

He took several photographs before it disappeared. The images eventually found their way into government UFO files and are still debated today.

Interesting piece of Orange County history whether you believe it was something unusual or not.

The FBI once tested alleged Bigfoot hair

I was reading through an FBI file from the 1970s that documents a request from Bigfoot researcher Peter Byrne to have alleged Sasquatch hair examined by the FBI Laboratory.

The file includes correspondence, internal memos and photos of the specimen. Regardless of what you think about Bigfoot, it’s a strange little piece of history that shows federal scientists actually agreed to look at the evidence.

The most interesting part to me is that the bureau treated the request seriously enough to conduct a formal examination.

In 1976, Bigfoot researchers mailed this to the FBI

The actual hair sample Bigfoot researchers sent to the FBI for analysis in the 1970s. The bureau agreed to test it, then concluded it came from the deer family.

California highway inspector’s UFO photos, 1965

One of the more interesting photos I’ve come across within UFO files.

In 1965, a California road inspector photographed this object while working in Orange County. The images were later reviewed by investigators and archived in government files.

Thought the images were worth sharing.

A 1967 encounter in rural France became one of Europe's most investigated UFO cases

Not saying I believe this. Just thought it was an interesting read.

A couple of kids watching cattle in rural France reported seeing something strange back in 1967. The part that got me wasn’t the story itself. It was that investigators came back years later and still couldn’t poke many holes in it.

Could have been a mistake. Could have been something else.

Either way, it’s a hell of a story.

The 1947 memo that said flying discs were 'something real'

I’ve seen the Twining memo referenced countless times, but I had never read the surrounding correspondence.

The broader collection includes discussions about foreign technology, the lack of physical evidence, witness reports, and eventually the establishment of a formal project to collect and analyze flying disc sightings.

Interesting reading for anyone interested in the early history of the phenomenon.
