Hopeful that we can get a good mushroom season in the south after a very hot summer, and hopefully a wet couple of weeks to come!

I've been worried that this year might have been rather rough for the late summer/autumn mushrooms we usually get - but hopefully we'll start seeing things in the next couple of weeks in the south of England if this rain keeps up!

Found in my kitchen which has had a lot of bugs since the window had been open through the summer - what am I in for?

Removing Phylostaccus nigra - can I leave the feeder roots?

I’ve dug out all of the plants, followed all rhizomes to their ends, and dug at foot or so downwards - as well as taking out some rhizomes that had breached the sleeper into the lawn, and checking along the whole lawn/sleeper barrier for more.

I only saw rhizomes in the first 10cm or so of soil, and everything else has been loose soil and feeder roots - do I need to remove all of these comprehensively, or is being really thorough with the rhizomes enough?

I’ve still got a smaller patch to remove where it’s leaked ‘containment’, but am almost there I think.

There were a couple of rhizomes that had really annoying diverted downwards when they hit a wall, which I pulled out, and am fairly sure got the terminating node but there is possibly a small remnant >60cm deep, which I cannot get to as it’s behind a retaining wall. I think these should be fine as they were new shoots nowhere near the established plant and anything that might have been left would be very minor. I’ll be watching them next summer, though.

My main question, is the one on the feeder roots.

Thanks.

Appeared in my garden overnight - presumably dropped by a bird or fox

Has a waxy appearance and is pliable - lots of what looks like hatched pupae, and a strong chemical (ammonia?) smell

I caught Spencer dancing, and he caught me watching - we’re all a bit embarrassed

What does this kind of behaviour look like to you? (Barking in video, in case your dog is reactive)

I’m reading it as demand barking but it’s a very unusual time for it to be happening, which has made me question it. It almost just feels like he’s a bit overaroused for whatever reason and is throwing a tantrum, but I’m not sure if I’m anthropomorphisising him.

For context, we’ve woken up, gone in the garden, he’s had his breakfast, gone for a short walk to go to the bathroom (longer walks are at lunch and around 6pm), and come home. In my mind, all of his needs are met - he has chews available, which he often uses straight after his morning walk for a short while. This barking only lasted a few minutes, but after that he was obviously looking for some kind of outlet for the energy (chewing, grabbing things he shouldn’t from places he shouldn’t, a small amount of digging, some self play). All in all he was laying down after about 20 minutes. Playing with him when he’s like this would usually further his arousal and make him significantly more stressed.

During the day we do plenty of enrichment activities and training (lots of sniffing, scattering kibble in the lawn, hiding treats, burying kibble in cardboard boxes, and generally 20ish minutes of whatever training we’re working on), for context.

He’s a 3.5 YO lurcher.

This is all much better than it used to be, but I obviously dont want him stressed at all!

Would appreciate any opinions.

Trying to order a replacement Bi-Xenon ABL RH headlight for a 2010 (UK 60 plate) C30 D DRIVE SE - having some confusion around correct part number to order

Hi!

I'm certain my car has active bending lights, as the headlights turn with the steering wheel - the parts desk at one of the local dealerships has told me that '31299829' is the correct part for my make/model with ABL installed. They did the lookup via the reg.

However - I've pulled out both of the current units and they're a consecutive pair 31299824/25, which obviously doesn't match the part number given by the parts desk. These units are the factory originals (first owner was my grandfather and they're known not to be replaced, unit manufacture dates are 24.08.10 and 25.08.10). This is further muddied by Ebay breakers (not experts of course) telling me that the units aren't known to have ABL.

Is it possible that the 24/25 units had some models without ABL, and others with?
Could the 29 unit be an updated version of the 25 which superseded it, hence the confusion?
Should I order exactly what's in the car, like for like, or what I've been told by Volvo is correct?

Would appreciate any advice here, particularly if anyone knows the answer. Thanks.

Teriyaki Hassleback tofu with fried rice Inarizushi

Forgot to also make sesame spinach, but we’re full and it was tasty, which is what counts.

Lots of leftover teriyaki sauce is a nice bonus, it’s so nice made fresh.

Calling it Inarizushi might also be sacrilegious.

Turntable sounds thin after moving houses with it

Hey! Video is of the turntable playing a song, then switching to the same song on line in from Spotify, and then back. It sounds very thin from the turntable, and this is consistent across multiple records.

The tracking force is at 1.8g, the anti skate weight is set, it’s reasonably level, and the stylus is pretty much new. I’m sure using the phono in on the amplifier, as the turntable doesn’t have a phono stage to the best of my knowledge.

Posted some relevant images in comments - would really appreciate any troubleshooting ideas! Thanks.

Am I dumb for thinking I could place monitors on my desk and also use them to practice piano?

It sounds fairly fine to my ear. The monitors are primarily for desktop synth stuff but I’m using the CP88 as a piano to practice regularly on.

Obviously not ideal having the monitors face the back of my head, but again, I can’t hear a significant difference A/B testing the direction I’m facing. Obviously ideally I’d have a separate set of speakers for the piano, but I bought these in the hope that I could do all at once.

I’m not sure whether to say ‘good enough’ and stop trying to optimise this when I’ll never get there without buying another set of speakers, which would require more space in a different room, or if I’m missing something obvious.

Would appreciate any thoughts. Thanks.

Is this dumb? Feels like the second monitor is in another room

Though I can see it if I turn my head/swivel.. monitors are bigger than I thought!

New bamboo shoots next to retaining wall and a newly noticed crack - disaster?

Is this bamboo going to destroy our retaining wall? Only noticed the new shoot and the horizontal crack this morning at the same time and am panicking a bit that our wall is about to fail and come through the kitchen window. Would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Made risers and double stacked based on this subs recommendation - very happy!

I bought some palette wood, cut, sanded, and used danish oil to seal and colour the wood to something similar to the bookcase, and now have a super functional and (I think) pretty bookcase! Thanks for helping in the original post!

Most importantly, I’ve got a ton of space for more books!

My Grandfather’s Seamaster Cosmic 166026

My Grandfather passed a couple of years ago and left me this watch, which I received a few months ago. Sent it off to Omega to be serviced as it wasn’t working and it feels wonderful.

Finally got it back this week, put a new strap on it as the previous one had perished, and I’m beyond happy with it and love wearing something I know he wore every day.

My other watch is a manual wind so this also feels like a big step up in convenience!
