Pay for techs

Hello! I’m about to be a college freshman, and my roommate and I are going to be guard techs at the high school in our college town. We’ve been asked what we’re expecting for pay, and neither of us have a clue. They have 3 rehearsals a week, plus football games, in a small town in Arkansas. Neither of us have officially been techs before, but we’ve both been very successful on our teams and have both been leadership of our teams before. What should we ask for as starting pay?

How to tell my clients my new schedule

Hello! I’m about to be a college freshman, and I’m going to school eight hours away from my hometown. I will be home for major breaks like Thanksgiving, Christmas, spring break, and summer, but that’s about it. I would love to keep babysitting for my current clients over my school breaks to earn some extra money, but I need some advice on how to tell them when I’ll be available. I’m pretty close with every family I work with, and they’re all aware that I’m going to college. I just don’t know if it would be unprofessional to send them the times that I’ll be home, or how to do that. Should I just list out the dates I’ll be home and send that to every family with a short explanation? I don’t want to sound entitled or like I’m expecting them to hire me every time I’m home, I just want to let them know when I’m available.

If this is a stupid question, just let me know. I tend to overthink a lot, and I’m fairly certain that’s what’s going on right now. Thanks!

Is my fridge too big?

I’m about to be a freshman, and I told my roommate that I would get our fridge. I ordered one that’s 4 cubic feet, but I didn’t realize how big that is until it arrived. I thought it would be fine, but my move-in is in three days, and every time I look at it, I just think about how impossible it’s gonna be to fit in a dorm room and how much extra space we would have with a smaller one. My college has pretty small dorm rooms, so space is a huge commodity. I can return it and re-order one that’s a better size, but it would leave us the first couple days without a fridge. Is it worth it? Is the big fridge that bad?

Starting my wavy hair journey

Hi! My hair has been treated straight my whole life because my mom didn’t know how to care for textured hair, and it’s also so long that the weight pulls out any waves. I have an appointment tomorrow to get it cut and styled by a curly hair specialist and to learn how to do it myself. Does anyone have any advice or tips on starting to figure out my hair? If you have any good product recommendations, they would be very much appreciated, but I am about to be a college freshman and unfortunately, the broke college student stereotype is very real, so I won’t be able to afford any super nice more expensive products. Thank you!

Best bronzer?

I’ve been using the Milani cream bronzer, but it never seems to actually show up. I want to try a bronzer stick, but I have no idea what brands to look at. I’m a college student, so cheaper is better, but quality comes first. Thanks!

Help with an inappropriate kid

Hello! I have been babysitting for this family for several months and I love them. I’m typically over 2-3 times a week, the kids are great, and the parents are amazing. However, their little girl has started having an issue. Whenever I sit down somewhere that she can reach my back, like the floor, she gets behind me and starts pulling up my shirt, sticking her hand up my bra, and pulling at my waistband to stick her hand down my pants. She’s 20 months and I’m on the floor a lot to play with her and her brother, who’s almost 3. They also have another brother who’s 8, but I’m rarely in charge of him because he’s at sports and his grandparents house a lot. I’ve never had any issues with her besides normal 20 month old things, especially nothing like this. What do I do about it? She’s the sweetest girl other than this, and I really don’t want to risk losing this family because they’re so great. Help!

Thoughts on Sophie’s storehouse fire?

SPOILERS FOR STELLARLUNE!!!

I’m rereading Stellarlune right now and I’m at the part where everyone is pissed at Sophie for setting the Neverseen’s storehouse on fire. I understand their point that she was impulsive and reckless, but I also think that everyone that’s mad at her is just speaking out of fear. They’re scared about the Neverseen retaliating and hitting back harder, but they’re refusing to see the good part of what she did. I don’t think they realize that they cannot win this war without going on the offense. I definitely agree that Sophie was irresponsible and should’ve gone about it a different way, but she is correct in that they need to start going after than Neverseen instead of just defending. I also love that she was mature enough to listen to Glimmer’s advice, and see that it was good advice, instead of just thinking “no, she’s been part of the enemy, I don’t wanna listen to her.” What do y’all think?

Was I payed too much?

I recently babysat for a family with a four-year-old daughter and a 16-year-old daughter for 2 1/2 hours. The 16-year-old is heavily autistic and required quite a bit of help, but nothing specialized. The four year-old is very energetic, more so than most 4 year olds, but no neurodivergence that I can tell. The Mom paid me $90. I just accepted it and left at the time, but I feel kind of bad because it feels like way too much. Is it?

High Lords are Greek gods?

I saw a video on Instagram earlier today about somebody whose husband who is reading acotar, and pointed out that the high Lords mirror the Greek Olympian gods. Helios is Zeus, because of the light powers, and the fact that he bangs literally everybody. Tarquin is obviously Poseidon, and Rhys is Hades, both because of the darkness and because he “stole” the bride of spring. Tamlin is Aphrodite because of the Shapeshifting and beauty. Any thoughts on the validity of this theory, and which gods/goddesses the other high Lords are?

College packing

Hello! My move in is in a little less than 3 weeks and I feel like I should start packing. I have several big items like a desk hutch, fridge, and a few rolling carts. I also have the big moving bags for smaller items, bedding, clothes, etc. Any advice for packing? I know that I should organize things by what area they go in, but that’s pretty much all I have. Thanks!

Help with the A Darker Shore riddle!

If the title didn’t make it clear, spoilers for A Darker Shore ahead!!!

Ok, so I just got A Darker Shore and read it through (I’m in love, it’s so cool), but I’m stumped on the riddle. I assume you overlay the sheet music on the letters with the fancy stationary, and match up the symbols on the corners of the letters to the symbols on the corners of the music. I noticed that some lines are legible through the music and some aren’t, but I have no clue where to go after that. I’ve been trying for 30 minutes and I’m lost. Please don’t tell me the answer but please give me a direction to try! Thanks!

Darrow rant

Ok I’ve seen a ton of people defending Darrow because “he was just doing what was best for the kingdom” and I agree with that because he was. HOWEVER. So Aelin. Darrow’s whole thing about “you’re just a spoiled brat who abandoned her kingdom” SHE WAS 8 YEARS OLD AND WAS PSYCHOLOGICALLY AND PHYSICALLY TORTURED AND MANIPULATED BY A MASTER IN TORTURE AND MANIPULATION. Aelin did everything she possibly could’ve to save her kingdom once she was old enough to do so, and I would argue that 18 isn’t old enough to do at least 2/3 of what she did. I will never forgive Darrow for blocking her path to the throne and turning her into a spoiled brat. Any thoughts on this?

Best method to see corps in the lot?

Hello! I’m going to my first DCI show later this week and I’m really excited!! I was hoping to see some of the corps in the lot warming up, but I don’t know if it’s allowed. If it is, I can’t find anything showing warm up times. Is there anywhere I might be able to find that, and if not, is there a method to finding the ones you want to find or is it just wander around and hope? I’d especially like to watch some of the color guards if that changes anything. Thank you!

Can I exchange items without the original payment method?

My grandma got me a bunch of products but they’re all the wrong shades. She used the number for my rewards account so I have the receipt. If I go exchange the products for the correct shade or other products without her card will she be notified or anything like that? I’d make up any price difference on my own card, I just don’t want her to feel bad because she was really excited to get me all the stuff. Thanks!

Saying goodbye

My move-in day is in a month, and I’m really worried about how my parents will react to leaving me. I’m the oldest, and they’ve always been very overprotective and helicopter-type. I’m going to college eight hours away, and I don’t know how they’ll react. I am mostly worried about how I should react. I’ve always wanted to be more independent, so I’m not terribly upset about them leaving me, but I’m afraid that they’ll be hurt if I don’t seem upset enough. Any advice?

Wavy/curly hair specialists?

I have wavy hair, but it’s been treated straight my whole life because my parents didn’t know how to take care of it. Any suggestions for a specialist I could go to to try and get it cut/styled? I really want to focus on repairing the pattern

Starting a business on campus?

Hey everybody! I’m about to be a freshman in college and have been sewing my whole life. I’m thinking about starting a little business where I just do simple repairs, hemming items that are too long, and maybe making tote bags. These are all things I’ve been doing for 10+ years, so I think it would be a good way to get some extra income. Would this be a good idea? Would anyone actually take me up on it, and if so, what should I charge?

Elementary afterschool program

I’m about to be a freshmen in college majoring in elementary ed. I was offered the chance to work at a brand new elementary after-school programs. The main poster is attached, and when I filled out the interest form I got an email asking which campus I would like to work at and saying “Beginning August 24th (the third week of school), we are running a full afterschool program from 305 to 515 Monday through Thursday. The students will start their program day off with having a light meal, And then they will move to academic rotations. They will spend 30 minutes in an ELA rotation, and 30 minutes in a math rotation, participating in engaging student practice games which are aligned to our district essential standards. Then they will transition to an enrichment pathway, either technology, education, art, physical health and wellness, or stem and work on a project based skill acquisition activity. All of the lessons are prepared for the teachers in advance and all of the materials are ready for the teachers in advance.” They also mentioned that the days I would work would stay consistent for the students, but can change from month to month if needed. Any advice? What should I know/watch out for?

New iPad user

I just got an iPad Air for college! I’ve never used one before and neither has anyone else I know. Any suggestions for the best apps, settings, etc? I’m an elementary education major if that changes anything. I’ll take any advice or suggestions. I already have a MacBook so I don’t need a keyboard or anything. I was planning on using goodnotes but if anyone has anything they think is better let me know!

Do I need a headboard?

Obviously I know it’s not a “need” but will I miss now having one? I have a big back pillow to lean on when I’m sitting up so I’m just not sure if I should get a headboard too
