Recording options suggestion

Could we possibly have it that when we click record on something an option window comes up automatically letting us choose for how long to record to tell the recording that's in progress exactly in how much time to stop?

Alternately, if we do have to set up the recording manually can we at least have it trigger a listing of the groups and channels so we can just select the right one rather than having to type in and search for it? This is really inconvenient with a Formuler controller.

The problem is that with sports you can't just record now and let it record the "program" because it doesn't work that way with live events. Sports never ever run to a predetermined program slot on the EPG. It's always different. So you're always going to either overshoot or, more likely, not record enough.

So you are forced to make a manual recording into the future. But the whole process is so cumbersome and you want to start recording as quickly as possible, but the act of searching takes longer than the time you want to start at if anything goes wrong in the process. Also the UI makes it very easy to cancel accidentally. And then you have to start all over because you've now passed the time you wanted to record at. This could all be prevented with a record now that just lets you change the recording duration as in mytvonline3.

Let me know if that makes sense or if you need clarification.

Thank you!

Opinions on French channels? (In French)

France mainly (but also Western Europe)

Just explored Dream a bit and wondering if there are any opinions on Dream4K vs King365. Really impressed with King but Dream sounds really interesting. This is mainly for sports, the thing that draws me to King is the full Euroleague channel coverage. I don't think anyone else has that.

(France) Knowledgeable dishwasher people, ideas?

We've moved into a place that has a dishwasher which was in questionable condition. The letting agent said either the machine has some kind of power problem, or its the apartment. If it's the apartment obviously we'll send someone to do any necessary repairs, and they'll test to see about the machine. Well, it was determined it's the machine. Whenever it goes into the rinse cycle, it trips its switch. All tests by these electricians that came confirmed it. We were told we were free to get rid of the machine.

But now we're wondering is there any chance this is repairable. It's a very old machine but seems fine otherwise. It's a Thomson STAR450/17. If anyone can think of anything we can try to avoid this going to the appliance disposal, we'd appreciate it.

Thanks for any help!

Are adapters bad for induction cooktops??

I was doing some research to buy a second bigger adapter for my induction stove. I have a smaller one I use now for a Moka Pot. But the whole time I'm looking online it's like the internet is trying to make me feel guilty for wanting one. We've got very nice older frying pans and saucepans that we'd be stupid to get rid of. So what's the general consensus on these adapters then from people who know what they're talking about and not some tech blog?

General doctor (IDF 92)

I know the chances of this are tiny but I found an amazing hairstylist by asking here for people who don't mind masking.

Anyone the in the 92 department outside Paris (from Chatillon and west) know of a good general practitioner who is known to be ok with masking without referring you (as I've heard online) to a psychiatrist for anxiety every time you come in for anything wearing a mask?

Thanks for any help!

-------------------------------

British Series faithfulness to Marple books

We've decided we want to explore Miss Marple via the series, of course nothing like the source material, understood, but let's just talk TV for a minute.

I never let anyone who asks me go anywhere but Jeremy Brett for Sherlock because, having read them thoroughly, the programs with him are the embodiment of Conan Doyle on film. Literally nothing else come close. Fun perhaps, and interesting, but not close. And even literary academics have long since made the same assertion.

So I need the same for Marple as my wife and I explore the depiction in TV programs. I heard something about the more recent ITV series being basically Marple fan fiction taking heavy liberties with her character, the stories, even drastically changing some of the narratives entirely down to the criminals and the crimes and (this one I find entirely) unacceptable injecting her into Christie stories she was never a part of.

I have no interest in things that are "in the world of". Too much of a purist. I understand (being a filmmaker and writer) the need to modify slightly to change medium but not distortion. That I can't accept. So, the Joan Hickson is the one to see, if I'm not mistaken, or is that not very accurate to the books either?

Thanks for any help!

(France) Seeking a new inkjet, limited budget

I'm replacing a Canon ip7220 that I think has hit a wall with printer head problems.

We print greeting cards a dozen times a year on Hallmark card stock, we take letter size prints of artwork (art, magazine covers, etc) on photo paper for framing in our home, and we do small amounts of regular document printing from time to time (shipping labels, government documents, etc).
Also, though it may be a rarity, I print backup discs and therefore use disc printing to put simple text labels on printable BD-R disc media.
We prefer having WiFi printing so we can place a printer wherever we like, we've gotten quite used to this.
Would also love to be able to get into third party refillable cartridges.

Looking currently at:

  1. Canon TS705a - affordable, simple replacement for the ip7220, prints on discs. Straightforward and possibly better quality
  2. Epson XP-65 - still affordable to us, sounds fantastic, but the amount of problems I read online with wireless printing sometimes even interrupting print jobs sounds unreliable.
  3. Used Canon G650 - only affordable to me used, fantastic printer with disc printing. But buying used from consumers who may not know the state of various components concerns me.

Budget: 150€ max, we dont use it enough to pay more but it has to do the image printing well
Multi-function: Not necessary, we have a proper scanner
Duplex Printing: Bonus, not needed

Can anyone say anything about these options or recommend something else?
Thanks

Seeking an inkjet with particular use

What would you like to accomplish?

I'm replacing a Canon ip7220 that I think has hit a wall with printer head problems.

We print greeting cards a dozen times a year on Hallmark card stock, we take letter size prints of artwork (art, magazine covers, etc) and print on photo paper for framing in our home, and we do small amounts of regular document printing from time to time (shipping labels, government documents, etc).

Are there any models you are currently looking at?

Looking currently at

Minimum Requirements:

  • Budget: 150€ max, we dont use it enough to pay more but it has to do the image printing well
  • Country: France
  • Color or black and white: Colour
  • Laser or ink printer: Ink
  • New or used: New, used if I can trust it
  • Multi-function: Not necessary, we have a proper scanner
  • Duplex Printing: Bonus, not mandatory
  • Home or business: Home
  • Printing content: Explained above
  • Printing frequency: Explained above
  • Pages per minute : Not relevant, really. Quality more important.
  • Page size: Standard letter, A4, legal, bigger would be nice but have never seen one in our budget that can.
  • Device printing from: PC
  • Connection type: Wireless and USB

Canon Pixma ip7220 problem

What would you like to troubleshoot?

Any printout of text is printed with a ghost image or slightly "doubled".

Minimum Requirements:

  • Printer Model: Canon Pixma IP7220
  • Error Message: No error message, simply ghost letters and blur
  • Ethernet Cable, WiFi or USB: Wifi and USB
  • Driver name and version: IP7200 10.0.19041.1
  • Firmware Version: Not sure
  • OS: Win10
  • # of machines impacted: 1
  • # of users impacted:
  • Original or 3rd party cartridges: Either

Any other details:

I've tried searching for help with this but I'm not getting anywhere. I've tried every troubleshoot that Canon provides through their software. I've tried cleaning the encoder strip.

Pictures/audio/video:

This isn't the photo, the page looks like this.

https://preview.redd.it/sid9ye5o06fh1.jpg?width=1616&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0ae799d3e8f3bf0a113ba199fe857760fde3f900

I like this printer because I can print on discs, which I use quite a lot to label backup discs without using adhesive labels, post its, or worse, Sharpies. So I'd like the option for that but the only one I see is the PIXMA TS705a. I do have to say I like the idea though of printers that can have their tanks refilled but we don't print enough to really say cartridges are a costly expense for us though we hate the ecological cost.

(France) Looking for a new grinder

I make one or two moka pots a day with medium-dark Italian coffees. I do single-dose but not multiple beans, I like stepped adjustment, and I may eventually own a pressurized espresso machine. I'm deciding between a Baratza Encore ESP (hate the noise), a Smeg CGF01/CGF11 (both are available at a local retailer for about 140€), and maybe a Eureka Mignon Filtro (but don't love the stepless for dialing in different beans and can't find a consensus on whether it even does moka grind well). I currently have an ascaso i2 mini that needs replacing.

For this specific use case, which would you choose, and why? Or maybe there's something else?

(France) Needing a new coffee grinder, home use (moka pot, pressurised porta-filter espresso machine)

(Warning to pros... this is just a home use machine that we need to grind for our moka pot and maybe one day for a pressurised espresso machine so no point in recommending pro machines that cost several hundred euros.)

It's been 11 years since I was told not to waste my money on an Ascaso i2 mini grinder because according to the incredibly snobby forum I was on back then it was "garbage", "a toy", "not adequate for anything but drip" and it's been doing an amazing job for over a decade. It's not issue-free of course: a really annoying spout, stepless which has meant experimenting with grind size is almost impossible, cleaning is difficult, when the back screw was lost years ago it meant we now were constantly pushing it down before grinding, and the noise sounds like you're turning on the Hadron Collider. But all in all, this is one of the best "wastes of money" we've ever bought in our home where we ensure we buy the best thing money can buy for the long term in our budget.

So, it gets complicated why I'm replacing the ascaso, but we need something new, and here's what I'm considering...

  1. the Baratza Encore and Smeg CGF01LVEU 1895 are 149€ at a large online coffee retailer - plus 10% off, a 10€ gift card, 250g of coffee free
  2. The SMEG CGF11PBEU is 189€ on sale at at the same store - plus 10% off, a 10€ gift card, 250g of coffee free
  3. The Smeg CGF01PBEU is 149€ at a local chain retailer
  4. The Smeg CGF11PBEU is 130 at that retailer but reconditioned and in "perfect" condition by their grading
  5. There's a Smeg CGF01RDEU also reconditioned by that shop for a surprising 87.99€ from original 200€.
  6. A Baratza Encore ESP for 179€ - plus 15% off, a 10€ gift card, 250g of coffee free
  7. A Eureka Mignon Filtro at another online coffee machines shop on sale for 139€ from original 199.

Why Smeg? No not just for the look, I just think that the components and build for my moka pot use are probably fine. The Baratza because it's the Baratza, and the Eureka because someone recommended them and it happened to be available to me at this range other wise I'd never have looked at it at all.

Can anyone provide some opinions? Maybe there's a completely different thing I should look at?
