28 days, 3 solo-built apps, real numbers (not a flex, looking for what I'm missing on visibility)

I've been building and shipping apps solo under my own brand for a while now. Wanted to share real App Store Connect data from the last 28 days across 3 apps instead of the usual "I made $10K in a week" post — because honestly the thing I'm stuck on isn't building, it's visibility.

[Screenshot 1] — App A: 73 downloads, 21.4% conversion, $28 proceeds
[Screenshot 2] — App B: 528 downloads, 12.5% conversion, $19 proceeds
[Screenshot 3] — App C: 96 downloads, 2.55% conversion, $5 proceeds

Conversion on App A is genuinely good — the problem is nobody's finding the product page (only 587 impressions). App B has decent traffic but conversion tanked -60.9% recently. App C's numbers say the listing itself needs work.

I've started making TikTok/Instagram content for these — mostly screen-recordings, and for one app I'm testing AI-generated videos since I don't want to be on camera. Too early to say if it's moving the needle.

If you've cracked organic visibility for small indie apps (not paid UA), genuinely want to hear what worked. What's actually driving your impressions — ASO keyword changes, specific content formats, Reddit/TikTok, something else?

An open-source app to hide private details in photos, videos and PDFs

Hi, I’m Aftab, the developer of PrivacyCam.

After noticing how easily screenshots, photos, videos and documents can expose things like addresses, faces, number plates, email addresses or QR codes when shared.

PrivacyCam detects these details directly on your iPhone and lets you decide what should be hidden. You can use blur, pixelation, blackout, emojis or flowers, correct detections manually and track masks through videos. It also supports PDF redaction and removes common metadata during export.

Media isn’t uploaded to my servers, no account is required and the complete source code is publicly available.

One difficult UX decision has been deciding how much guidance to show. Privacy tools need to explain what will be hidden before exporting, but too much text can make the editor feel overwhelming. I’ve already simplified parts of it, but I’m interested in what iPhone users prefer: more guidance inside the editor, or a cleaner interface with explanations behind help buttons?

The core privacy tools are free. Pro is an optional $2.99 one-time purchase for longer videos, larger PDFs and batch features. There are no subscriptions or advertisements.

App Store:
https://apps.apple.com/pk/app/privacycam-safe-redactor/id6790542130

Open-source code:
https://github.com/ak375456/privacycam

I’m actively improving the app I’d particularly appreciate hearing whether the editor feels clear and if anything seems unnecessarily complicated.

PrivacyCam – open-source, on-device redaction for Android

Hi, I’m Aftab, the developer of PrivacyCam.

I built it because I often needed to share photos, videos, screenshots, and documents without exposing faces, addresses, number plates, or other private information.

PrivacyCam can:

  • Detect faces, people, text, QR codes, barcodes, and possible number plates.
  • Redact photos, videos, and PDFs.
  • Track masks as subjects move through a video.
  • Cover details using blur, pixelation, blackout, Emoji, or Flower stickers.
  • Remove metadata from exported files.
  • Process media locally without uploading it to my servers.
  • Work without creating an account.

The source code is available under the Apache 2.0 license:

GitHub:
https://github.com/ak375456/privacycam

Google Play:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.privacycam.photo.redactor

The app has a free tier. PrivacyCam Pro is an optional $2.99 one-time purchase, not a subscription. Single-photo tools remain free, while Pro unlocks longer videos, longer PDFs, and batch-photo features.

For transparency, the Android app currently uses Google ML Kit for some on-device detection and Google Play Billing for the optional purchase. Photos, videos, PDF contents, OCR results, and detected information are not sent to me. The repository includes the privacy policy, third-party notices, asset provenance, and build instructions.

I’m actively improving the app based on user feedback. I’d especially appreciate feedback about detection accuracy, the video editor, PDF redaction, or anything in the source code that could be improved.

I built an open-source, on-device redaction app for iOS and Android

Hey folks! I’m Aftab, the developer of PrivacyCam.

I built it because I wanted a simple way to hide private details in photos, videos, and PDFs without uploading them to an online service.

PrivacyCam can detect things like:

  • Faces and people
  • Vehicle number plates
  • Text, email addresses, phone numbers, and addresses
  • Payment-card details
  • QR codes and barcodes

You can blur, pixelate, or completely black out anything it finds. You can also draw your own masks, resize detections, change how long a video mask stays visible, and review everything before exporting.

The attached video shows PrivacyCam tracking and covering a vehicle number plate through a video.

Everything is processed on the device. There’s no account, no advertising, and PrivacyCam doesn’t operate a server that receives your photos, videos, or PDFs. The project is also open source, so anyone can inspect how it works or contribute.

The free version covers single photos, videos up to 15 seconds, and PDFs up to two pages. There’s an optional one-time Pro purchase for videos up to 60 seconds, longer PDFs, and batches of up to 10 photos—no subscription.

Automatic detection can obviously still miss things, so the app always lets you review and correct the result before sharing.

I’d genuinely appreciate feedback, especially about the video tracking, detection accuracy, UX, pricing, or anything privacy-related you think is missing.

I Built PrivacyCam—An Open-Source, On-Device Photo, Video & PDF Redaction App for iOS

A — Answer
PrivacyCam is an on-device privacy redaction app for photos, videos, and PDFs. It can detect and cover faces, people, vehicle number plates, text, email addresses, phone numbers, addresses, payment-card details, QR codes, and barcodes.

You can blur, pixelate, or black out detected details and add or adjust masks manually. The attached video demonstrates automatic number-plate tracking and redaction throughout a video.

B — Better
Instead of uploading private content to an online service, PrivacyCam performs detection and redaction directly on your device. No account is required, there are no advertisements, and original files are never overwritten.

PrivacyCam also removes common metadata from exported photos and videos and rebuilds PDFs from flattened page images to remove selectable text. Every automatic detection can be reviewed, resized, disabled, or corrected before export.

The app is also completely open source, allowing anyone to inspect how it handles their private content.

C — Cost
PrivacyCam has a free tier, and PrivacyCam Pro is optional:

Single photos: Free

Videos up to 15 seconds: Free

PDFs up to 2 pages: Free

PrivacyCam Pro lifetime: $2.99 one-time purchase

Pro unlocks videos up to 60 seconds, PDFs longer than two pages, and photo batches of up to 10 photos. There is no subscription or recurring charge.

I'm actively improving the app, so I'd really appreciate honest feedback—especially on the UX, video tracking, detection accuracy, pricing, and privacy features you think are missing or could be improved.

App Review Taking 10 Days — Is This Normal?

My new iOS app has been in review since July 18, and it has now been 10 days without any update.

Is this normal, or should I contact Apple/App Review support? Has anyone experienced a similar delay recently? this is first time something happening like this.

I open-sourced PrivacyCam after users raised privacy concerns

I’m building PrivacyCam, an app that automatically detects and hides sensitive information from images, PDFs, and videos.

A few users told me they would not trust a privacy app unless it was open source, which was a completely valid concern. Because of that, I have now open-sourced the app so anyone can inspect the code and see how their files are handled.

Everything happens locally and offline on the device:

• Nothing is uploaded to a server
• Nothing is sent to an AI service
• No photos, videos, PDFs, or personal data are collected or stored by me

PrivacyCam can detect and hide:

• Faces and full bodies
• Email addresses, URLs, and phone numbers
• QR codes and barcodes
• Vehicle number plates
• Credit card details and other sensitive text

Users can blur, pixelate, or completely black out detected information before exporting.

The app supports images, PDFs, and videos. It also includes a built-in video editor with tracking, allowing a blurred or hidden area to follow a moving person or object throughout the video.

The app is currently being tested on Android and is under review for iOS, so it has not officially launched yet.

I would really appreciate your feedback:

Would open-source code make you trust a privacy app more?
Which detection feature should I improve or prioritize first?
Is video tracking something you would personally use?
